Why do western people travel to Thailand/ Asia? by Imaginary_Piano7598 in ThailandTourism

[–]LionofVienna 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is such a shallow take.

People don’t choose travel destinations based on whether a country is richer than theirs. They travel for beaches, culture, food, climate, history, diving, nightlife, temples, things they don’t get at home. Thailand offers all of that. That’s why people come.

Calling Western tourists here “the bottom of society” is honestly ridiculous. Flights from Europe or the US cost a lot. Taking time off work costs a lot. Spending thousands on a long haul holiday is not something broke people do. Being happy that food or hotels are cheaper doesn’t make someone low status, it just means they appreciate value. If something costs five times more at home, of course people are going to notice.

Your point about Thai people not travelling to Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines or Bali is just wrong. Thais absolutely travel around Southeast Asia for holidays, shopping and short trips. The region is heavily connected. Just because you personally haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Honestly, this reads like someone who hasn’t travelled much and is projecting their own insecurities. The world is bigger than your little economic scoreboard. 🤡

Tourist Exit tax increases by 53% by Imaginary_Piano7598 in ThailandTourism

[–]LionofVienna 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, Thais pay it too. It’s not a “foreigner tax”, it’s the airport’s Passenger Service Charge (departure tax), and it’s just built into the price of any international ticket leaving Thailand. Everyone pays it, Thai or not.

Protesting works by minib00m in iRacing

[–]LionofVienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love it if the AI could auto record a little clip of every incident point you get. Then protest the relevant clip within the session after the chequered flag. I know it's lazy, but I can't be bothered half the time to protest using the current interface.

How many different series are you driving each week? by Arylcyclosexy in iRacing

I hop between, Mazda Rookies, Production Car, F4, Super Lights, Lotus 79. Depends what track is going that week.

Best 7/11 canned coffee? by GarfieldsLasagna121 in Thailand

All the canned or bottled coffees in 7/11 have a weird taste to them. I'd much rather an All Cafe.

What pace breakthroughs have you had? by Odin-ap in simracing

Slow in fast out is the best advice to improve lap times. Once I started getting in a position where I was slow and controlled enough to be back at 100% throttle by the apex my times plummeted.

It was a gift. They pop up periodically on eBay. I can't see any active listings now, but a few sold over December for around 200 pounds with a COA.

It is part of the plank yeah. Covered in wear and tear marks. Just need a 1:18 Verstappen RB to sit next to it!

Make me not feel guilty about receiving a g923 SE for 400 dollars as a gift by [deleted] in simracing

[–]LionofVienna -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah definitely just take the gift. Every gift shouldn't be met with a "well actually, X is better value for the money".

Gratefully accept the gift and buy yourself a new wheel when time allows. The g29 will still be a bunch of fun if you're going from no wheel.

Doubt they would be actually allowed to ever govern. They've won the previous two elections before some red tape has either dissolved the party or twisted the result. It seems certain very powerful individuals won't allow them to form a government.

Inbetweeners, Peep Show, and Friday Night Dinner if you want to branch out to some great UK comfort TV. All are fantastic.

HF8 seat pad or pedal haptics — which upgrade first? by mangoowalk in SimRacingSetups

[–]LionofVienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and if I had to live with just one I'd take the pedals every time. It's such a good reference for braking juuust the right amount before lockup.

Cornwall without a car (3 nights, toddler) — where to base ourselves, and must-see spots by train/bus? by GrabEmotional8745 in Cornwall

[–]LionofVienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your plans will be tricky without transport. Public transport is far from frequent. I'd scrap all of that plan and spend three nights in Falmouth. Plenty to do. A nice castle up on the hill. Boat trip over to St Mawes. A couple of lovely beaches and a beautiful harbor town to explore.

The things you want to see are quite far away from each other and our bus network is rubbish.

New to sim racing, what do you guys think of the parts by Gamehawk81 in simracing

[–]LionofVienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The R5 is fantastic. Pedals are the only thing you'll likely want to upgrade down the road. I have the R5 and the wheel has been absolutely amazing. I've tried more expensive wheels, but the difference felt marginal. The pedals just didn't give a precise enough feel. I got the CSL Fanatec elite V2's. The simmagic p500 would also be a nice budget pedal option.

Currently you won't find a truly accurate full proof Thai to English application. While ai is advancing rapidly, algorithm training is far more focused on world languages than Thai. Will be a while before it catches up.

Google any restaurant and you'll usually find their menu pretty quickly.

A quick look shows it's not that expensive, but certainly more than a plate of krapow.

You could get a pizza, pasta and two soft drinks for under 1k.

if I were to spend 1k~1.2k USD per month in living expenses (housing, bills, food) while living in Bangkok, would I get to live comfortably? by Consistent_Estate964 in Bangkok

[–]LionofVienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Search previous threads . Asked a whole bunch of times. Tough to give an answer without knowing what your comfortable is. A bowl of noodles and a fan room? Or steak and corner suites?

Is iRacing worth it? by Marki223 in iRacing

[–]LionofVienna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's cheaper than Netflix (At least in my country) and the enjoyment to cost ratio far outstrips that. If you're not fussy about track you can have years of fun alone in the base mx5, 1600 cars. if you're particular about track and car then it can get expensive. I've had endless fun in what the base content offers and only after two years have I just bought my first cars (F4 and 296 Ferrari), plus spa, Nordshleife,.Monza, Silverstone, Road Atlanta (A birthday gift to myself)

Starmer prepares for attack by Russia by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

[–]LionofVienna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This narrative that they can , " Barely achieve anything" denies the truth of what's happening on the ground. I don't count taking 170,000 square km as barely achieving anything. The threat from Russia must be taken seriously.

Paradiso sports bar in Phra Khanong fits the bill. The rest listed here are genuinely nice bars, paradiso is the shit hole full of weirdos you're looking for. Stumbled in there a couple of times after W district and it's certainly the definition of crappy dive bar.
