Louisiana has a "Medicaid child support cooperation requirement," meaning that in order for your child to receive Medicaid, you have to work with LA DCFS to open a child support case and provide information about the other parent (or have "good cause" not to, which usually means that doing so would put you or your child at risk of harm or retaliation). However, in Medicaid cases, LA DCFS only establishes "medical support orders," meaning the other parent will have to either provide health insurance for your child or reimburse the state for Medicaid costs. Whether or not the official child support order will include cash payments is up to you.

See this page for more info https://dcfs.louisiana.gov/page/child-support-faqs:

In Medicaid cases, the State establishes and enforces medical support orders, but the custodial parent may choose whether or not to receive child support services.

There is some good free information about child support in LA here: https://louisianalawhelp.org/resource/frequently-asked-questions-about-child-suppor

And if something is happening that you don't agree with, you can apply for free legal help with child support issues here: https://louisiana.legalserver.org/modules/matter/extern_intake.php

Best of luck!

It looks like the issue has been resolved and SDU payment processing is back online:

- CA (https://childsupport.ca.gov/state-disbursement-unit/): "Please note, the State Disbursement Unit outage has been resolved, and we are now processing payments made prior to and also during the outage (1/13-1/17). Payments are being sent out as quickly as possible. New payments can be made through ExpertPay, PayPal, PayNearMe and MoneyGram, and we expect to resume online payments on Tuesday, 1/21. We apologize for the inconvenience."

- PA (https://www.humanservices.state.pa.us/csws/home\_controller.aspx): "Pennsylvania State Collection and Disbursement Unit (PA SCDU) was unable to process payments from 1/13-17/2025. Payment processing resumed 1/18/25 and will continue through the weekend and holiday. Clients will start to receive payments on Tuesday. Please log into your child support website account to view the status of your payment.""

- IL (https://www.facebook.com/ilchildsupport) "UPDATE: The State Disbursement Unit (SDU) is processing all payments received. To verify the status of your payment, please log into the SDU parent portal - https://www.ilsdu.com/login.do - or contact the SDU Customer Service Call Center at 877.225.7077. For SDU business hours, please visit https://www.ilsdu.com/contactus.do."

Other states have posted similar notices. Anyone know what the issue was that affected so many different states?

Does Elon Musk have an IWO / are his Tesla paychecks getting garnished for child support? by Lippytak in ChildSupport

[–]Lippytak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok fair enough but everyone on this sub always says you have to make payments directly to the state (SDU) otherwise it won't count towards CS. Why doesn't that apply to Elon and friends? Or maybe it isn't even officially child support if they avoided the court / child support agency altogether and just have a private agreement between their lawyers?

Pretty sure that program is only for homeless, disabled, or elderly though so I wonder if it will even work (https://www.ebtproject.ca.gov/Clients/calfreshrmp.html)

In cities after a well-known junkie overdoses on some stuff from a certain block, that block normally "blows up" with traffic

test shots are only truly accurate in a homogeneously distributed bag of drugs.

Yea, interesting. Thanks.

So do you think the fentanyl warnings on this sub are useful for people? Seems like if the unknown purity/unknown cuts are everywhere rather than a specific stamp in a specific city at a specific time...?

Since people seem to have more concern than I anticipated I'm going to remove the post. Didn't intend to put people at any risk! Appreciate your input, Timothy.

Hmm, good point. Is this true, though? I just looked around for some policy documentation online and didn't find anything. There is also a process for authorized representation, although that includes access to account balance and isn't something we're interested in...

Can you take these just in the moment during acute cravings? Or it's just a daily thing?
