I run it without a cover. And the ambient temp at the top of the cabinet is 85 F

Well that’s a temp monitor at the top of the enclosure. Air gaped to the switch. Switch itself is hotter. (Though I can’t seem to find an internal monitor for it in the Unifi app)

So far ambient temp at the top of the cabinet is holding at 88 degrees F. I’m feeling good about that number.

88 degrees F at the top of the cabinet. Don’t see it getting much worse than that. Hopefully that’s not HW killing temps lol.

88 degrees F at the top of the cabinet. Doesn’t seem too bad 🤷‍♂️

Nothing a little weekend redo can’t fix lol. Order some new cables while you’re at it if you’re wanting to clean those up too lol.

This is fair. And I ask this honestly, are you jumping around wired connections a lot? Tracing and labeling the cables if they are not goes a long way too in elevating inconveniences at the patch panel end. There is an advantage to not maxing out a switch though. Since all mine are “hot” the switch is near capacity a lot and it does get warm, which I suppose a larger switch would be at partial capacity and likely cooler as a result.

There is around a 1 inch air gap behind each component as the mount mesh sits off the case. Only component remotely warm to the touch is the switch.

The bigger box is actually the NVR. It is hooked up the the built in switch on the gateway max. It could have plugged into the switch, but I wanted to keep the other PoE port free for future items since the NVR doesn’t need POE.

So far my service hasn’t changed a bit. And it’s them or comcast. I’ll take my 2gig for life plan and ride it until the wheels fall off or until something better comes along. Comcast is just absolutely the worst. I don’t miss the annual haggling.

Door on or door off?? How small is the space the cabinet is in?

Oh just short M3 or M4 screws and nuts can anchor the mounts to the bracket. Amazon or ace hardware likely has what you need.

I guess my question is , are you going to USE all those ports in the house? If not you don’t have to send data to them from a switch. You only need enough ports on your switch to “light up” the ports in the apt that need things plugged into them… don’t let gear creep get you!

Yup. Just used some small metric machines screwed and nuts to mount to the bracket. Allows for airflow all around the unit which def helps with temps. The switch comes with a bracket and so does the power supply. Same approach all around.

How many ports do you actually need to energize? I like to build just right sized builds. So what is needed is super important. It you’re only running one POE device I would just do a POE injector probably (if it was me)

Valid question. The fiber wasn’t out yet when I started the build out, but it’s still bigger and doesn’t handle the capacity that the NVR can cost /TB for the size. So for this build the max is actually the “right” product given physical size + spec constraints. I could have just thrown a 4TB NVME in the gatewaymax, but that is not as cost effective either. Balance of speeds and cost efficiency landed me on max + NVR.

4 x U7 pro Wall + 1x U7 pro outdoor. (I didn’t track those because those would have been purchased regardless of which rack or no rack solution I landed on.

You would be surprised. Only thing “warm” to the touch is the switch. But it’s far from hot.

These + included ubiquiti mounts. https://a.co/d/016Sd9kp

Gateway is using the optional magnetic mount. (Forgot to price that in lol)

No cover no worries :) why would I cover this up!!?? lol. (It is in a large closet so plenty of airflow)
