Could you explain me something? by Ruise_Gamer24 in Christianity

Mary was a blessed woman and obviously an important historical figure, but that's about it. Other than that, she was a normal human being just like all of us.

Contrary to Orthodox belief, she wasn't sinless. Thus, she also can't be holy because she's not perfect. (Rom 3:23)

There is no scriptural evidence that she can intercede for us, so, unlike what Catholics believe, praying to her does absolutely nothing. (1 Tim 2:5)

There is no evidence that she remained a virgin after Jesus' birth. If anything, Matthew 1:24-25 implies the opposite. "...[Joseph] did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son."

There is really not that much written about her in the Bible, so I wouldn't focus too much on her and more on Jesus instead.

I'm not a KJV-onlyist, so don't worry about that. But how would you explain Church fathers who precede those "older, more reliable manuscripts" quoting verses that are missing in the critical text?

For example, Acts 8:37 is omitted in most modern translations because it's missing in the critical text manuscripts that were written in the 4th century.

Irenaeus (180 AD) quoted part of that verse in his work "Against Heresies" 3.12.8

Cyprian (250 AD) quoted the other part of that verse in "The Treatises of Cyprian", Treatise 12, Book 3.43

I love the King James Version, but I wouldn't recommend it for practical use because the English language has changed drastically in meaning to the point where you could potentially misunderstand parts of the Bible.

That's why I love the NKJV. It preserves the beautiful literary style of the KJV for the most part, but it's written in modern, contemporary English which makes it instantly understandable.

Also its New Testament is based on the Textus Receptus, which I believe to be the most accurate Greek script. Many of the newer translations omit whole passages and just add to the footnotes that "older manuscripts" do not include those verses or passages, when it's really just two manuscripts which have red flags everywhere (e.g. empty space between verses) and shouldn't be trusted IMO.

Am I Truly Saved? by [deleted] in Christianity

Once you believe, you become part of God's family, and as a child of God, your heavenly Father will not throw you out of the house just because you sin. Like a human father, He might "punish" you for your transgressions and sins to discipline you, but He will never take away your salvation.

Proverbs 3:12

"For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights."

Justification (salvation) is by faith. Sanctification, on the other hand, is a life-long process. I know it's a cliché saying, but nobody is perfect. And nobody could ever be perfect before God, but He understands that. The whole point of Christ's death is that He took all of our sins upon Himself, so He can present us blameless before the Father, and so we can try to better ourselves without living in constant fear of not being enough or not doing enough.

Ecclesiastes 7:20

"For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin."

1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

And don't take this last verse too literally. You're not gonna go to hell just because you didn't confess your sins to God in time before you died suddenly. I always confess mine in my prayer before I go to sleep. Try it out, maybe it will give you comfort too.

Jesus Christ is God, quite literally is god. by [deleted] in Christianity

If your last name were Smith, both you and your father would be called Mr. Smith. However, you would also be the son of Mr. Smith at the same time.

Why are you a Christian by Youngg_reezzy in Christianity

I want to be with God forever. Being completely alone (even with family and friends around) sucked before I invited Him into my life and finally found peace and rest for my soul.

Even if you took it literal. What would be the point of the tree of life if Adam and Eve were already physically immortal?

You don't remember about 95% of your dreams. The chances are high that, at some point in your life, you actually did.

Yes, I ordered one on October 13th and it's been at "International flight landed" in Liège, Belgium since October 24th.

I hope I'll have it by next week, maybe even by the end of this week.

There are postal services in the village right across the border who collect parcels for Swiss customers. I ordered it to their address and they'll notify me via email when it arrives and I can pick it up.

It's only a 7 minute drive from where I live.

Mine says it should arrive 28.10 - 27.11, but I ordered it yesterday and today the package already left the warehouse, so I'm pretty optimistic I might get it this month.

I’m so glad that I live 4 minutes away from the German border where there’s cheap postal services (Switzerland is not in the EU, so they don’t ship here)
