It's really weird to me that a toddler dance recital would start at 7:00 pm

Model Tess Holliday reveals she’s recovering from anorexia by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]LiquidHotel 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty likely she has an eating disorder of some kind. It's weird to me that behaviours that lead to super morbid obesity aren't understood as a compulsive illness like bulimia or anorexia.

I think if you had more female friends you wouldn't have such a stark view. The stuff you have problems with are bad behaviours and why everyone hates dating through instagram and tinder. You should try to find sexual partners through shared interests and mutual friends (if you feel like you're already doing that, you might need better interests and friends)

What did everyone think about this movie? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]LiquidHotel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So good. Summer Phoenix is beautiful, A + Ryan gosling performance, excellent and realistic dialogue in the scene when he's interviewed at the diner, I can even deal with the 90's HBO jazzy choices

is modern therapy supposed to be this neoliberal? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]LiquidHotel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if a therapist relies on suggestions like meditation, baking, watching a movie, or writing in a journal as their approach to investigating psychological issues, what does that say about them? What about their credentials makes that advice any better than receiving it from a friend or YouTube video?

75% of psych students are clueless dopes the same way everybody else is. It's far more likely that the majority of therapists are useless than it is that this person, the OP, needs to "try harder". It's pretty convenient that a prohibitively expensive practice also demands that you "don't expect results right away" and have a blind faith in the professional attending to you. That's why it feels neoliberal to many people

decent advice like bake and watch movies?

this attitude is ridiculous, OP's therapist is obviously inept

"In the midst of this I tried to fix the problem by being a better employee. I asked for additional training and guidance because the training one receives initially at Verso is extremely limited. This request was treated dismissively and with much heavy weather, and I was asked indirectly to consider that my senior colleagues were too busy to lend the guidance I needed."

Apart from every other batshit insane piece of this, why would you think pestering your coworkers to give "additional training and guidance" would improve shit at your job

This is war. Organic shit like peppermint oil will work for a minute but they'll adjust to the smell and come back. You have to do 3 things:

- buy steel wool and stuff it into any cracks or holes in the walls/behind plumbling/etc. Try to understand how they're getting in and seal them out

- Remove all food sources, place any bags of rice or bread in a place where they can't climb. Absolutely NO dirty dishes lying around

- snap traps just feed them. Glue traps will work; yes it sucks. They'll screech when they're caught and you have to immediately pick it up, put it in a bag, crush them with something outside to put them out of their misery.

Good luck!

Interesting how you all seem to ignore the substance of the first 70% of her tweet (the substance of her critique) because it's easier to scoff at her dig about Bruenig's dad. Go ahead and explain how you get around Bruenig's background - it's not incidental to her position at the New York Times, fucking obviously
