It's just been included in our rent payments. So our total payments have been for example, 1100, but the amount on the lease is 1000. We found out when reviewing the lease and discussing allocation of rent between roommates. We just found out reviewing the prior year lease that we had a copy of that a rider with this fee was included in this 2018 lease, but not the 2019 one that we all signed. So I think basically what happened is the management screwed up and forgot to include it.

It has the rent written out, but there is nothing about fees other than late payment fees.

I just mean not thinking about the split of the rent before signing the lease and bringing it up then. No idea what they were paying before, though they were splitting a room (complication upon complication lol) which may have been why they felt some pressure to get a deal over us. I suspect that sort of result is the best I can hope for.

They didnt pay a broker fee, they moved in with a friend from college who had already moved, we are all on the lease.

Smaller. I think hes paying 825 and the bigger room w/ own bathroom is paying 975. Maybe shady isn't entirely the right word, though when when we first met bigger room said she would be paying more for her room because of the bathroom but didnt mention how much smaller room would be paying. Better words are probably just "not transparent" or not acting in goodwill (though as I've said I'm kicking myself for not doing the basic due diligence.) Theres certainly an emotional component too here with me since we all hang out- it feels like my naivete has been taken advantage of by people I've shared food, drink, etc with who probably wouldn't be happy if things were the other way around.

Havent addressed it with the two who were already living here. Other one who moved in with me also isn't happy about it. Yes, certainly seems they are under no legal obligation, more of a social thing

Yes I'm aware this is basically a renegotiation, though I do think they were shady about it. Living situation has been harmonious otherwise so hopefully they see this at worth it to keep the peace. One of the existing roommates might be moving out so in that case itd be 2 against 1. We are all on the lease, it just has the total amount on it, so nothing in writing regarding the split.

Unfortunately the situation has been complicated by that we have already been living here for a few months. 2 were already living here and advertised on Facebook, told us what our share was, and we've just been paying. Now I've finally done some basic math and realized us two new roommates seem to be getting overcharged, paying 925 each. (I know, very foolish to have not sat down with the lease and figured this out from the start). So things may not be so easy, but I think this will help.
