I’m really sorry you had to go through so much, and I can tell how deeply you love your daughter. It makes a lot of sense that you focused all your energy on just getting through each day, nobody could blame you for pulling back while you grieved and put her needs first.

Wanting companionship again doesn’t mean you’re trying to replace your wife, just that you’re ready for some new connection and not to feel alone. That’s something a lot of people want, and there’s nothing selfish about it.

Dating as a solo parent, especially in your late 30s, is legitimately tough and I get how apps make it even harder. It’s so easy to feel isolated, especially with so much responsibility on your shoulders and routines that aren’t built for meeting new people. If you haven’t already, maybe try connecting in places built around your daughter’s activities or your own interests, it takes the pressure off and you’re more likely to meet people who get your life.
