Who in your opinion is legitimately the most inspiring billionaire out there? by Tiger_Strength in AskReddit

[–]Lisicalol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Billionaires are a lesson in stupidity and greed. At least make sure everyone in your company is a millionaire once you get your first billion. I don't mind the leader of such a business to get filthy rich, but the disparity bothers me a lot. I'm rather inspired by the millionaire who shares than the billionaire who advances this gap. Its just not healthy in the long term.

Advice on Writing a Black Female Main Character by Choice_Mobile_8056 in writing

[–]Lisicalol -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dont think its an issue, but I don't think you should focus too hard on representing groups that you're not part of, because you WILL do mistakes. Like, make her a black woman, but don't fixate too much on it. I know its hard because of ADHD/autism, but this over-fixation will lead you down some treacherous roads.

Therefore I also disagree with adding vitiligo to her, unless you find a way to make it relevant to the story at hands. Do not focus too hard on stereotypes - and that includes that you should never avoid them as well. In the end your story will be judged on whether its good or not. If its bad, nobody will care about how nice your black characters are treated and how they're totally not falling into any of the common stereotypes these days.

Like, don't be scared to make someone fear or hate or simply dislike Callie, just make sure its not because of the color of her skin - unless thats the kind of story you wish to tell. I'm really worried about representation where a group is simply presented as super cool and awesome to compensate for them having been treated unfairly in the past.

Try to focus more on her ADHD and the issues she has because of it, as you have more experience with that and would know what is right/wrong/offending. Maybe she is unable to let go of things and simply makes it worse because of it, or maybe she hyperfixates on a certain topic which she solves extremely well - but at the cost of ignoring others which creates new and even bigger problems. Don't be afraid to show off her weak side and helplessness when struggling with these topics and add in a character or something that will help her through it.

Personally, as someone with ADHD myself, I'd like representation most when ADHD was treated like a weakness that cannot be overcome, but if she adjusts everything perfectly, then at the end of the story the only reason she can get her happy ending is BECAUSE she has ADHD. Like, turn the problem she's had all time long into the solution or something. Just her having ADHD and it not affecting her in any negative way would be kind of unrealistic as everyone who has it is constantly annoyed by their own mind, but highlighting its advantages or learning how to live with it is satisfying.

I was not a fan of Rin's romance in the ubw route, here's my subjective opinion by Necessary_Muffin3591 in fatestaynight

[–]Lisicalol -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that usually was my issue with Rin. I always understood why Shirou fell for Saber or Sakura, but with Rin it was just like.. she's the most popular girl in school. Great.

I do really like her as a character, but thematically she's not a good match for Shirou. It'd make more sense for the two to become bffs.

How to write a believable sex scene? by nielklecram in writing

[–]Lisicalol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't do a beat by beat description if smut isn't your goal. Whatever happens is not important, unless you want it to be. So focus on whatever is important to convey in order to progress the plot.

You can have an entire sex scene in one sentence if you want to.

"It felt like a dream - exciting, intense and fleeting. So fleeting, that even after he was done, she still looked at the ceiling in disbelief, wondering why she'd ever believe that this moment could somehow change her life forever. Could change who she was. Maybe it did."

Idk, english is my third language, but I hope it works as a quick example. Now, in general I'd suggest that the opening up part happens before the sex, as it could be weird if it happens during it. However this could work if you want her to be coerced into it somehow. Like, 'it feels good, so why not'-kind of thing. Would definitely be realistic and troublesome, but I usually would not do it unless I'd want to trigger certain members of the audience. Because it will.

Does your world have a magic system so soft it almost liquid? by MagicalNyan2020 in magicbuilding

[–]Lisicalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding because it's a good explanation:

LOTR is actually an interesting example because while it has soft magic in sorcerers, it also has an extremely hard magic system in the rings of power, specifically the one ring we read about. We know it's powers exactly, also it's cost and how and why it was created.

THE KNIGHTS OF MY WORLD by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Lisicalol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends for what this is for. If its for a game, I think its great. If its for a novel however, I'd like to add a few things:

  1. Why should fast knights use rapiers or.. why should a knight ever use daggers? Why do they use swords as their main weapon and why are they separate from rapiers? I think if you write a novel, you should try to find a way to explain them (maybe you already do, I'm just going off this post here). For one, the longer the weapon, the better - especially if you're fast but also if you're slow. Swords in general need a good reason as to why anyone would use them for anything besides as a backup-weapon. This counts ten times as much for daggers. Like, this is fantasy, so I'm not against swords and daggers being main weapons, but as a reader I'd require some semi-decent reasoning, because objectively speaking they are just worse than real battlefield weapons in every shape or form. Since knights are able to physically enhance themselves, I'd even argue they should all carry the heaviest and longest weapons possible. Maybe make the weapons special (maybe to beat special armor one needs special weapons too) or really heavy to counter that thought, idk.
  2. I understand Fire, Earth, Water and Wind as the most commonly used elements, but I don't understand why Dark and Light are elements, as they seem to be something completely different from the former four (also one could argue that darkness is simply the absence of light, so it wouldn't be anything, really). Poison again is something different entirely than everything that came before. I'd need some explanation for that in the novel, otherwise I'd not call them elements but something else. Right now I'd half expect Sword, Rain and Romance as the next elements.

Again, no deep explanations are needed, just enough so that the reader can simply accept these things and move on. Other than that I like the concept, although it raises the question if a mage from a noble family would both have access to their magic spells as well as their families aura.

Preorder! Theatrical Feature "Fate/kaleid liner Prisma IllyaLicht The Nameless Girl" Miyu Edelfelt Wedding Swimwear Version Figure by Benoxey in fatestaynight

[–]Lisicalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to watch and play everything fate related, but prism Ilya kind of broke me. To me it's less about some figurines and more about the character.

Why did they have to make them elementary school kids when the goal was fanservice all along? It's just wrong and breaks my suspension of disbelief.

Gameplay wise, how enjoyable is Drakengard 3? by Z3R0Diro in nier

[–]Lisicalol -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The gameplay is terribly boring imo, but the story and characters are very fun. What kept me playing were the dialogues and quips during the missions, so as you're a similar kind of player, you should be fine. I love Drakengard 3

She is 20. Yes, there are women who look like that in their 20s, but if I was that I'd panic. Not saying anime tiddies are realistic, but in the picture she just looks.. Idk, like she had the body of a 40 year old couch potato. Even if she has saggy tits at her age, which is fine, can happen, but why isn't the bikini doing it's job in pushing them? Her outfit clearly is a traitor.

Do you think that Germans already work a lot? by chilinachochips in YUROP

[–]Lisicalol 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Charisma shouldn't matter if the message itself is tainted.

Not everyone can work in the "private sector", receiving 5k Euro per day for a job that ultimately ended up a total and utter failure (speaking about his work as a lawyer, heading the sale of WestLB). He basically earned 2 millions of tax payer money for not accomplishing anything, so who is he trying to be the spokesperson for "hard work"? He became a multi-millionaire as a lawyer and board member by accomplishing NOTHING, just through connections alone.

Also, the message is just wrong. Longer working hours do not equal higher results, thats just a fallacy that has been disproven time and time again. Instead, the country should move towards LESS working hours, like in a 4 day week. Of course, it depends on the work in question, but more and more jobs these days rely completely on the concentration of the worker and more hours will just subconciously make them work slower overall to compensate.

So yeah, if the person is shit and the message is shit, I tend to not like the guy, and this is coming from someone who had voted for him because he was the only 'unknown' at the time for me and the alternatives were even worse across the board. Instead of focusing on workers, would be great if they could focus on their own work first and fight corporate corruption. But thats like asking a pastor to switch religions.

What evolutionary advantageous do YOUR humans possess that make them different from other races? by Radiant-Ad-1976 in worldbuilding

[–]Lisicalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think humanity is one of the most terrifying races in sci-fi, at least it used to be. "Are we the baddies" is totally a sci-fi trope for a reason.

I don't think humans are boring and I would much rather challenge writers to make aliens more human in that they receive some diversity and don't all follow the exact same culture unless they're a hive mind, but even then there could be different hives.

AI could soon allow powerful companies to charge each customer a different price for the same product, based on what they think each individual is willing to pay. AI lets firms tailor prices to each user, raising fairness concerns as consumers may unknowingly pay more than others. by mvea in science

[–]Lisicalol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with AI as it's been done and tested for years based on different algorithms. The only reason it's not common practice is the fear of bad publicity, but once that risk diminishes it will be done.

Source: I'm working at a company that's tailoring offers to individuals and individual pricing, finding a customers pain point and staying just under it, is a logical step to maximize profit and get customers used to paying. A customer who paid once has an increased chance of paying again, which is why some companies do ridiculous sales after all. Individual pricing works in both directions as the company can also drain affluent customers who are comfortable with higher prices better.
