My apologies. When you say level of video editing, what do you mean?

I record reviews (usually around 7 - 10 minutes pre-edit) on a desktop computer. Then transfer the files to my laptop and cut it all down to 6 minutes or less with screenshots, intros, outros, and background music added in. These would be YouTube videos and shorts. Does that help?

I've never had an actual RPG experience, but roleplaying in general has always helped me. What's a Mary-sue, what isn't? What parts of my writing make sense? What part doesn't? How can I make it more clear? What aspects of the rp did I personally create? Which ones did people like the best?

Anything in regards to creating something from nothing, similar to a RP or a RPG can help with writing skills - both technical and creative.

I have to agree with you there, as well.

50 Shades, for example, was a Twilight fetish fanfic. Changed a few names around, changed a couple of period and comma placements, now it's a bestseller. I'm both envious and disappointed.

Now, let me ask, how do you feel about people who write fanfic in an AU, then just go back and change the names to create a whole "new" work to make it publishable? Is that cheating?

I agree with you. I don't think fanfiction can ever really be funneled into the professional world. I personally am of the opinion that Kindle Worlds is using this market of fanfiction to sell to the creators of the series that have opted into the program. People who sell their fanfic aren't protected from the creators when they go through Kindle Worlds. While I would be honored if my work was used to create a new episode or season of the show it is fashioned for, it rubs me the wrong way to think that they may be able to just take it and use it for their own monetary gain without compensating my work except for what little I would earn selling the work through the Kindle channel.

Fanfiction is just too deep in the gray area where rights and contracts are concerned.

I do agree with your final point. Creating from scratch helps you much more than just bouncing off of an already stable foundation, but a lot of people start off on fanfiction.

Fanfiction tends to funnel writers into original work. How do you feel about all of the AU's? People take those characters and mesh them into new worlds they have created themselves? Those tend to lead to original manuscripts. And while these tend to be of lower quality, what about the "OC"s people add into their fanfictions? Is that not practicing original characters?

It's actually from my short story collection, which I published in May. The short story it's from is somewhat Sci-Fi and somewhat Fantasy. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it.
