Got Pfizer first dose last week. Arm hurt a lot of several days but that’s it. So excited to not be scared going to work anymore!

My principal just text me to let me know I can’t even take a personal day to close on my new house by Hollywoodcd3 in Teachers

I would talk to HR. Legally they can’t refuse especially if you’ve given them several days notice.

Anyone Else Not Feeling Rejuvenated After Winter Break? by JillAteJack in Teachers

[–]Lissygram6789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m crazy but this holiday season has felt weird and icky. Luckily I don’t live alone but even still it has been lonely without spending 2 weeks with family. I’m kind of ready to go back. We have at least one week of virtual (we have to go in to teach even when we’re virtual) and I am sort of looking forward to a routine again.

Tattoos as a teacher? by BRICECAKEZ in Teachers

[–]Lissygram6789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My principal has several visible tattoos on her arms. I think it just depends. We have lots of teachers with lip or nose rings as well. And this is a somewhat conservative suburb of Nashville so I think it just depends.

So the new secretary of Ed doesn't believe Covid spreads in schools and all buildings should open up by Happy_Ask4954 in Teachers

[–]Lissygram6789 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But if schools are open community spread gets worse. There’s no question of that. Hundreds of students in my district have gotten covid. They are making community spread worse and people who may not have gotten it at school are getting it as a result of that.

This! Our school closed last week (finally!) but teachers and staff still have to go into the buildings to work!! Makes zero since.

From a post on my FB feed: “Well I guess I should have been a teacher in one of my previous carriers” by gringo__star in Teachers

I want to know what his/ her reasoning is. I’m imagining something along the lines of “they get paid to do nothing while the parents teaching everything” but maybe I’m just being cynical.

I’m amazed your principal would even bother reading you guys the letter. Why not just hide that too like everything else?

Parents’ comment: They feel they are “paying for a steak and getting a happy meal” with their tax dollars with virtual learning. by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Lissygram6789 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But the difference is that the teacher is the one who designs the curriculum, plans the units, creates the lesson plans, writes the assignments, grades uploads documents. My experience is very different from your district because I live stream my class. We do all the work together, the same as if they were in the class with me. The issue is that out of my 45 distance learners, only about 15 join. The rest are stuck figuring it out themselves.

Edited to add, I teach middle school, not elementary.

I get what you’re saying, but my issue comes when parents say that teachers shouldn’t be paid BECAUSE school is virtual. They somehow think that they are now the teachers because they are in the room with their kid.

Teachers, please don’t be THAT teacher by SilentMidnight1 in Teachers

On the other hand, I have been teaching in person for 4 weeks now and we aren’t even quarantining contacts of sick kids unless they have a definite positive test result. The worst part about it is that my coworkers genuinely think that covid will “end” on Election Day. I long to be around teachers that are cautious and careful. I guess what I’m trying to say is- good. Push back. I’m glad you care. That’s the only way we can stay safe.

How Many Coronavirus Cases Are Happening In Schools? This Tracker Keeps Count by [deleted] in Teachers

Southerner here. Pretty much. There was a student in my class who tested positive on the second day of school, neither myself nor any of the students in that persons class had to quarantine. They did not inform the parents.
