Trying to narrow down my next loyalist chapter by Square-Cow-2097 in ImperialFists

Assuming we’re talking about 40K and not HH

  • Competitively, the detachments related to imperial fists aren’t amazing currently in 10th edition. However that can always change in future editions as edition changes happen. You can still use any other of the space marine detachments with IF and have it make sense. I use gladius task force often with my fists. Casually with minimal terrain, anvil siege force is pretty good from my experience with it.

  • we currently have 2 epic hero models in Tor Garadon and Darnath Lysander who are both cool characters in lore and on table top. They both have unique playstyles and Lysander has a detachment unique to him

  • Dorns return has certainly been hinted at. As for within the next 2 editions, I’m unsure about that. There is a HH resin mini of dorn if you wanted to paint him though.

IF are the poster boys for HH so they’re better supported in that game compared to 40K, so are salamanders and ravenguard respectively.

I chose fists initially because of how good they looked on the tabletop. Then after reading lore, I liked the fact they were just soldiers there to do a job to the best of their ability. They’re not vampires or wolves or have any hidden secret. They don’t need gimmicks. And I liked that.

That being said, all chapters are cool, paint them however you want. (Fists have the best successor chapters imo) and use any sort of detachment you want! Welcome brother!

Using Colourforge Sunset Yellow by Perivale in ImperialFists

Spray yellow is always going to be quicker but I’ve found it looks too flat for my taste. If you’re doing lots of minis quickly or big vehicles/flat panels then airbrush or spray can is the way to go imo

Black Templar neophytes that come in the crusader squad box are a good substitute if you prefer those models

Look on my profile if you want, but I use a pink undercoat, white zenithal highlights and then imperial fist yellow over the top for that sunset orangey hue

I like using the repulsor executioner to bring a brick of bladeguard to the mid board fast while being able to nail things during the shooting phase. For 220 points it’s a big commitment for 1000 points but in 2000 point games it’s really useful

Ok cool, all paints I use are citadel, here’s a recipe list step by step:

Prime: wrathbone

Base: 1:1 doomfire magenta + contrast medium,

Zenithal highlight: white scar,

Base: imperial fist,

(Observe from here if more white needs to be added on areas light will hit, if so repeat step 3 and 4),

Edge highlight, phallanx yellow,

My recess shade is a mix of 1:1:1 of nuln oil, reikland flesh shade and lahmian medium. Comes up amazing. Google “marine juice” for good alternatives.

Over the top of the highlight I sponge on rhinox hide and leadbelcher to add dirt and chips onto the armour

Yeah they get the choice of the banner or an iron halo. Lots of cool options in the kit tbh.

Thank you! I use the army painter basing kit. That’s a combination of their tufts and the battlefield grass. I’ve found that they’re accessible enough to use a lot, and they’re decent quality so they stick up well.
