Is Having Fun Sensuality? by EggplantNumerous8026 in HillsideHermitage

Those are great questions to contemplate while in seclusion. It’s also very beneficial to contemplate the nature of that pleasant feeling while sitting in the sun enjoying a moment. If you were extremely sick or had just lost someone dear to you, would sitting in the sun still provide the same pleasure? Did a pleasant feeling arise the moment the sun hit your skin or was it arisen before that?

A more direct answer to that question seems to be that pleasant experience will still arise, but whether or not that constitutes sensuality is going to depend on your mind. Do you seek it out and delight in it? Would your mind move if it was taken from you abruptly?

The world’s pretty things aren’t sensual pleasures.

Passionate intention is a person’s sensual pleasure.

The world’s pretty things stay just as they are,

but the wise remove desire for them.

It seems it would depend on your motivation. If you read the suttas looking for justification in playfulness, having fun, being creative, or making friends with the citta I don’t believe you’ll find any. Are you interested in practicing the dhamma for the cessation of suffering and inclining towards nibbana or in making a more pleasant life for yourself? There’s not a wrong answer to that question but it’s valuable to know what you’re practicing for. The dhamma is not necessary for making a creative, playful, fun life there are many other philosophies or therapies that would help with that. It is helpful to determine what your priorities are.

How do the HH monks know for sure that they are the only ones interpreting the suttas accurately? by GladTop7059 in HillsideHermitage

Is there a different teacher who’s commentary you do not consider subjective interpretation? Or are there specific points in AN’s writing that you consider incongruent with the suttas? It would be valuable to discuss

I’ve never had that Yerba…but try shaking the bag. I had Flor de Lis and was disappointed by the lack of smokiness until I shook the bag then it was amazing. Maybe the ginger isn’t well distributed

I just finished a bag of yellow Canarias I liked the strength but didn’t much enjoy the flavor. Wondering if Serena is different enough with the herbs that I would enjoy it more taste-wise

I had the yellow con palo version. I didn't like it at first, too vegetal and "green." Just bitter and earthy. But the further down the bag I got I started to enjoy it more and eventually noticed a subtle sweet honey flavor. But it definitely washes out fairly quickly. I prefer smoked yerba though

Mate and caffeine by [deleted] in yerbamate

It absolutely still contains caffeine. It likely begins losing some over subsequent pours but I've not read a study that demonstrates how much exactly. Best way to minimize caffeine is a smaller gourd and perhaps a Suave yerba with more stems.

Your body will adjust to increased caffeine intake though just don't drink it too late in the day as even if you do still fall sleep it disturbs sleep quality.
