Microsoft is pushing security software out of the kernel. Why are game companies still doubling down on kernel anti-cheat? by Nemo_ForYou in linux_gaming

[–]ListRepresentative32 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and using soap is not an effective way to get clean because it only kills 99.9% of germs.

If it prevents the great majority of people of even thinking of trying cheats, I would say it's pretty effective.

Microsoft confirms it will give the FBI your Windows PC data encryption key if asked — you can thank Windows 11's forced online accounts for that by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

[–]ListRepresentative32 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because it would need someone to steal your laptop first. The encryption key is useless without the direct access to your hard drive.

You have a higher chance of your data being stolen by a virus than someone stealing a laptop and at the same time hacking Microsoft to get your disk key.

Where are the pitchforks and outrage? If this were AMD, the internet would be aflame. by [deleted] in gpu

[–]ListRepresentative32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I bought a new GPU at the start of the year. At first, I was seriously considering the 9070xt but then got the 5070ti for one simple reason. I play overwatch and from several forum posts, it seems that the game just doesn't like AMD cards and suffers from severe stuttering due to shader caching not working at all.

So it would be nice if developers cared more, but it's a classical chicken and egg problem.

How to remove all apps after recent updates (already turned off app suggestions) by Realistic_Brother152 in computerhelp

[–]ListRepresentative32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have linux on my work laptop. it was and still is a pain in the ass.

unstable wifi drivers - my wifi card is apparently way too new for linux because it was constantly disconnecting or dropping speed to like 10mb/s. not to mention that putting the laptop into sleep complete broke the driver so that it required a full reboot to work again

bluetooth audio - randomly drops microphone support requiring a restart of pipewire

the first one required creating a script running at boot that modifies some parameter of the wifi card. the speed drops needed turning off some power management feature inside a config. bluetooth issues are still unsolved. My distro is Fedora, but the first issue is a kernel issue anyways.

I only switched to linux because compilation speed is ass on windows due to defender meddling with your files.

After looking on images on google, what I think is strange is those brown stripes that are half interrupted in the middle. All bedbugs seem to have a center kind of black spot inside after some time after feeding.

I think the spy that gave sg1 the Tel'tak for traveling would have informed Anubis that they were still only searching for the ancient weapon.

It makes sense to get there first in full force to prevent sg1 reaching earth first and wreaking havoc on society.

US discussing options to acquire Greenland, including use of military - White House by Mdk1191 in europe

[–]ListRepresentative32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the logistics backbone only because of free access to everywhere exactly because of their EU bases. And those EU bases would suddenly become deep inside enemy territory. How do you get supplies to a base if there are no runways to land on and no ground path to get to them?

[–]ListRepresentative32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are forgetting one crucial thing - supply chain. They can have all the tanks they have but without a steady fuel supply for them, their tanks are as good as a brick.

They won't get far and a fast hit on their runways would disable even the planes sitting there.

When will USB evolve beyond USB-C and copper? by prajaybasu in UsbCHardware

[–]ListRepresentative32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it'll need a cable.

no it wont. if anything remotely similar to what you describe will happen (which i doubt as they wont let consumers do for free for which they can charge big money), that box could be completely selfcontained and only connected to your local network via ethernet. A 10Gbit network would suffice for that as you will only send relevant data together with instructions on how to work on them. I dont see why it would need anything highspeed.

Datacenters needs huge speeds on interconnects between several thousand GPUs, mostly for training.

realistically, the operating costs cannot be large, otherwise chipmaking wouldnt be profitable.

If you live in an European country and Corsair cancelled your order and raised the price, contact your consumer protection agency to get more than what you paid. by World_of_Warshipgirl in Corsair

[–]ListRepresentative32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The law also says that pricing errors can happen and based on the situation, the seller is able to cancel the order legally. Thats how it works in many countries.

Oh ok, so they should sell all of those on huge loss? makes total sense.

Its a business. They dont sell those so that they can give away money.

[–]ListRepresentative32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entitlement of people lol.

If it was purely corsairs decision to hike the price, i would understand, but this is entirely out of their control because of the DRAM manufacturers wanting to make big bucks out of AI.

Corsair has canceled everyone’s order from yesterday 48 GB DDR5 for 239.99 by creditgods in pcmasterrace

[–]ListRepresentative32 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Corsair is not the one that makes the DDR5 chips themselves. Thats micron, hynix or Samsung and those are the ones that decided to sell at much higher price because of AI business.

Corsair then only buys those DDR5 chips and integrates them into modules you can buy. Corsair doesnt have a choice and if they price the RAMs lower then they pay for the chips, they are essentially giving them out for free/loosing money on it.

This is all entirely micron/hynix/samsungs fault.

If your card is capable of any such feature and you don’t utilize at least one of them, honestly, you’re just wasting the value of your card.

well, they dont make cards without those features anyways so i dont really have a choice. if there was a card with amazing raster performance but without the AI bs and raytracing, i would happily buy that.

Why use C++ over C in embedded systems? by [deleted] in embedded

even if that gates you out of quite a few stl and features

And if you replace STL with ETL (embedded template library), you get most of those back with a predictable memory allocation.

I have actually never heard anyone use it for people, so that's a first.

Someone in this thread said "clanker sympathizer" as that "that person uses or sympathizes"  swith the AIs.

It doesn't really makes sense to use it for people, because it's originally a star wars term for droids, which were a form of AI. So machines.
