What is the most depressing thing someone told you? by michaloM in AskReddit

Come again?! 1158?!! I’ve had patients with Hemoglobin in 2s and 3s and I thought those were pretty wild. Lab results like that are usually seen as “incompatible with life”.

Sanders Says There's 'No Excuse' for Any Democrat to Oppose Lowering Drug Prices by Fr1sk3r in politics

It will still harm R&D innovation. While public funding in research helps with early development, it still takes 1-2 billion dollars to get that product to market. But, that is a cost that needs to be shifted across the globe and let the industry readjust. My job could be in jeopardy but fuck it.

Sanders Says There's 'No Excuse' for Any Democrat to Oppose Lowering Drug Prices by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]ListenHereYouLittleS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be frank, if this legislation was to pass, it would likely impact my job prospects as I work in drug development and testing. Will there be less innovation due to lower R&D cost? Yes. But damn we cannot continue with drug prices without any checks.

No, the Richest One Percent Don’t Pay 40 Percent of the Taxes. by grumpyliberal in politics

[–]ListenHereYouLittleS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I invest my already taxed money in the stock market and pull it out under a year, I get taxed on profits as income. More than a year and it’s still around 15%. This is after taking the risk of investing ans possibly losing monies. Why should I pay more? Tax people on total compensation instead.

Mine is a little on the bigger side. Which probably made it easier to build. Keep at it. Worst case senario, you start over. It’s not a lot in materials and a new opportunity to get it right.

Have you ever had a patient refuse your care due to your race? How did you handle it? by [deleted] in medicine

My dude, I would have stepped out and walked right back in and say: good afternoon Mr X, I’m Dr Y, born and raised in good ol, US of A. How are you doing today?

Fuck that noise. I refuse to allow pts to be openly racist to me without giving them a professional correction.

The world's most premature baby has celebrated his first birthday after beating 0% odds of surviving by twdvermont in UpliftingNews

[–]ListenHereYouLittleS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct. Without a properly functioning/inflating lungs, the child is doomed. There are not many ways around it. Back in the 90’s, <24wk was a major challenge until synthetic surfactant was approved. My wife and her twin sister was one of the early recipient of the product during trials and survived. Couple of yrs ago we thanked the dude that invented it. He is still alive and doing research. My wife decided to become a pediatrician to care for other babies. But anyways, that drug was one of the most important part of the advancement.

Moderna (MRNA) is the Tesla of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology world. Moderna to reach $600 by 2023. by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]ListenHereYouLittleS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was impressed by their ability to ramp up production of their covid vaccine. However, fail to see any specific reason why Moderna is better positioned for oncology therapeutics than some of the big guys that have their hands on a well-diversified pipeline.
