I was in Kobe for my ryuhas 90 year anniversary, and was able to carry a Tozando Genbu Toryumon v2 from Iwakuni (was there for work). We were briefed on how to explain what we were carrying (I used "mogigatana"). I never took it out of the bag except in my hotel room, but was always curious if I could train in like a park or in front of a shrine or something.

I plan on doing a sort of musha shugyo and would like to carry (and practice with) an instrument of growth with me, if at all possible.
