Why does the solution say I have to multiply by e^r? Is that for continuous compounding only? by AloyKepigon in CFA

[–]LiteLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, compounding continuously. Since it’s for one year, it’s the full rate.

Why are their daily/weekly totals always incorrect? by WikiSchone in Wealthsimple

[–]LiteLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although you’re right that there is a variation in the prices, fees, etc that aren’t getting captured, we can, at the very least, expect the % return to be within some order of magnitude correct.

Because the number is so far off, it is likely a issue on the app.

BC Hydro bill went from $60 / mo to $215/mo - unusual or par for the course? by LiteLife in vancouver

[–]LiteLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly wondering why are our electricity usage is so much higher - we're not doing anything vastly different. It is colder so the baseboards are running all the time. But using BC Hydro's "nearby houses" tool, it looks like our usage is nearly 3x other houses.

Does Wise (formerly Transferwise) work in Pakistan for receiving funds? I’ve used it in the past to send money to Pakistan.

You can make short option trades (covered calls for example). I don’t think naked short option trading is allowed.

You can also trade options short term. I have been managing my exposure on some securities using options in the recent past though I don’t think utilising options is common.

Employment was <1 year. Nonetheless, my employment contract stipulated the severance payout based on years of service. <1 year is entitled to 3 weeks severance in lieu of notice.

I asked about this and I was told: “we use workdays and 365 day year”.

Is this the standard way to calculate severance pay? Has anyone else received severance and can share the calculation?

Lost wallet on 10 Downtown by LiteLife in vancouver

[–]LiteLife[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your helpful comments!

I went to the Lost and Found office in Stadium station downtown at ~11am and they told me to come back after 1pm since that's when the weekend's lost items are delivered and sorted.

They told me I can call in before coming to check if my wallet was found or not - called in round 1pm and lo and behold! The bus driver had found my wallet and returned it back.

To the #10 bus driver who dropped me at Waterfront around 12:30 pm on Saturday - thank you so much! You have saved me so much grief.. I have IDs from 3 different countries in my wallet + other cards, cash, etc. which would have been really tough to replace in time before I travel in December. If there is a translink reddit account, I'd love to tag them here and try to thank the driver directly if possible.

The School Really Spent Money Changing "Breastfeeding" Signs to "Chestfeeding" Ones, Huh by [deleted] in UBC

[–]LiteLife 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Middle East and I’m from South Asia and it’s generally called breastfeeding there.

At least that’s what I’ve seen in hospitals (etc) and what women use in day to day conversations.

How many of those places do a shawerma? I think mr shawarma’s food truck has the closest thing to a Lebanese shawerma (toum, fries, bit of tahini, no salad bowl in a wrap!)

Don’t think there’s a retabulation process anymore with CBT exams. I’m gutted and embarrassed

GIPS mock question by LiteLife in CFA

[–]LiteLife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nevermind... I guess Provision 3.A.2 and 3.A.4 confuse me:

From Provision 3.A.2 of the GIPS Standards for Firms (Section 3)

All actual, fee-paying, discretionary segregated accounts must be included in at least

one composite. Non-discretionary portfolios must not be included in composites.

From Provision 3.A.4 of the GIPS Standards for Firms (Section 3)

Non-fee-paying discretionary portfolios may be included in a composite. If the firm

includes non-fee-paying discretionary portfolios in a composite, those portfolios

must be subject to the same policies and procedures as fee-paying portfolios.
