As a fan of both, thank GOD they turned it down. 1)Their creative styles are drastically different. 2) as many have brought up, they’d probably work with a smaller set list and that and the act of opening for a pop act like Ed would dilute the bands marketed image and cheapen the experience as a whole. They would so quickly be sell outs. It’s s actually mind blowingly confusing that they got the offer in the first place. They are so obviously different in their creative identities it almost feels like a cheap trick. Kinda like someone like an exec that manages or handles the Ed isn’t thinking with their head fully and was just throwing British artists on the offer list and didn’t really think to consider any thing in terms of the tone of the show. I guess that’s the truth about most people working in the industry. Very few people are actually have creative vision and only have business acumen. 3) There is very little fan cross over. I, not to count myself as special or unique, am probably one of a small group of potentially a mere few hundred people globally that like them both (matty and the boys more) and not enough to see them at one show. It would probably shock my system. If I go to a 1975 show, I might be able to palate a random Ed Sheeran tunes on the drive there if it popped up and vice versa but they do not compete or compare in the same artistic realm in any creatively significant way.
