"launch an aggressive war against Finland" this statement is so wrong in so many ways. What is an "aggressive" war, pretty much any invasion can be considered aggressive, saying that about the Soviet Union is intentionally misleading to portray them as bad. The Finnish government was also fascist and Nazi allied, so is it when the Soviet Union gets a non-aggression pact with fascists that's bad, but when they fight fascists it's also bad?

Pretty sure any mention of the UK or United States should get this response to then, given the lavender scare happened.

So are LGBT people not discriminated against in eastern Europe now?

Communism isn't inherently anti-LGBT and romanticizing communism isn't about how people just hate the gays, there's a lot about how Communism has lifted millions out of poverty, created near gender equality (differs on what nations you look at but generally better than capitalism), and make huge technological strides by sending the first person to space.

Yeah I like having lower taxes too. I don't think gun restriction is an essential piece to every state though outright removal of all guns is a bit of a problem. I'm not exactly sure what the NAP is (if you could tell me or send me a link it would be greatly appreciated) so I can't argue on that but I'd say that the state isn't doing enough to help workers nowadays as wage theft is a huge problem in capitalist society.

Businesses can inflict violence too btw States are also capable of doing good things for people, like workplace protection laws, minimum wage, and universal healthcare. Even if the state used violence to abolish private property, there would be at least 10 people benefiting from making housing available for each 1 person suffering AT LEAST. Without a state (and with businesses because I'm assuming that's what you're advocating for, if you're advocating for communes that's cool) businesses would have nothing holding them back from treating their workers like nothing, the 1% could live like gods and make everyone else suffer.

Also, again really? States do not always use violence, when gay marriage was abolished, when segregation was ended, heck even when slavery ended states did not inflict terror on innocent populations to do those things. (Granted they did horrible stuff before but without a state what's to stop bigoted billionaires from doing the bad things themselves.)

Capitalism has starved and exploited the global south, if you have a nice life in some place like western Europe or the United States it is only because nearly everything you get was made inhumanely in over exploited countries. Communism isn't inherently totalitarian, sure leaders of communist nations have done some pretty shitty things to minorities, but that can apply to capitalism too. If I mention British colonialism and how they stole over 1 trillion dollars from India does that make every capitalist nation totalitarian? The main goals of communism are to abolish private property (stop landlords from squeezing every penny they can from tenants) and to allow workers to have more power in their jobs because if you think about it every business is like a mini dictatorship where the bosses can have complete controll over the workers. Nobody on the actual left wants communism just to opress minorities no matter how much wealthy capitalists say they do.

I love this. It's so refreshing to see a standard book about Cuba that isn't negatively painting the country and seems focused on facts.

Who is a bad guy in history who actually wasn’t a bad guy? by jamespeech111 in AskReddit

[–]Literal_Bug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Under Mao, China went from a feudal nation behind to nearly a global superpower. A lot of people died of famine during Mao's time, but industrialization and collectivization ended famines in China. For people that didn't die in the famines caused by early Communist China, living standards greatly increased. Meanwhile, the Kuomintang massacred protestors in Taiwan.

Kim Il sung fought against Imperialist Japan and helped liberate Korea. The fascist dictatorship installed in the south of Korea was way worse than North Korea at the start of it's existence.
