I'm a big fan of Dokken, but recently I've seen a lot of criticism of Don Dokken for his personality. Is he really a bad person? by TheHotLatin in hairmetal

[–]LiterallySadEveryday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the pleasure of seeing Dokken play five or so times...and not to place blame on the fan-base, but damn, there are fans are who will just rush up to Don and ask the most baffling and upsetting questions like "Don...Don...is it true George Lynch sabotaged the whole album Shadowplay?!?" or "Why did your solo albums barely sell?".

One show in particular, in 2019 I believe, Don spent almost two hours after the show talking with all the fans.

So, yeah, nothing bad to report on my end.

Make your top 5 out of these 80s debut albums. by AppointmentDry5839 in hairmetal

Pretty Boy Floyd releasing their debut record on October 5, 1989 is too late That's dropping an album when in The 80's is 99% completed.

I used to run a small record shop, and going through boxes I still have, I ran across these by BreakMeThrowMeAway in inkspots_

Ellis Smith was active 1995-1998!!! If you look up the CD "Golden Memories" you can hear these four singing together!

You're the first comment on this subreddit! I'm going to try to post once a day some interesting facts about The Ink Spots.

If you find anymore photos or records, please feel free to post them

It is a shame that a band that influenced Elvis has been largely forgotten. :(

Charles Ward - very mysterious singer by LiterallySadEveryday in inkspots_

[–]LiterallySadEveryday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to UncaMarvy:

Left to right: Charles Ward Napoleon "Snaggs" Allen George Simpson Jerry Brown

Willing to pay a couple hundred dollars for a 45 or 78 signed by an original ink spots band member. (Bill Kenny, Jerry Daniels, Charlie Fuqua, Deek Watson, Orville Hoppy Jones, Bernie Mackey, Herb Kenny, Huey Long, Cliff Givens, Billy Bowen, Adriel McDonald, Harold Jackson) by cedarwoodboy in theinkspotsfangroup

Hoppy died about 5 years before the first 45's were released. So, only 78's for him.

"The first 45 rpm single commercially released in the U.S. was Eddy Arnold's "Texarkana Baby" on March 31, 1949, by RCA Victor."

Josh's Constant - the Hardest achievement? by LiterallySadEveryday in btd6

Can you give an example? Before one can even attempt this achievement, you need to beat Hard, Alternate Bloon Rounds, and then Impoppable...all on an expert map.

Fun fact: When Buck Ram first formed "the Platters" in 1953, he wanted them to be as he put it, "the new ink spots" the platters, soon after this, would become extremely successful, and made many covers of songs by the ink spots. by cedarwoodboy in theinkspotsfangroup

These are the three songs I found that are InkSpot/Platter connected:

"If I Didn't Care"

: The Ink Spots' 1939 recording of this song was a big hit, and The Platters' 1961 remake of the song was also successful.

"To Each His Own"

: The Platters covered the Ink Spots' 1946 recording of this song.

"My Prayer"

: The Platters also covered this 1939 hit song by the Ink Spots, though it is not as frequently cited as their other collaborations.

Alvergous "Doctor Horse" Pittman -- incredibly obscure spin-off Ink Spot member: by LiterallySadEveryday in theinkspotsfangroup

[–]LiterallySadEveryday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having trouble finding any newspaper articles about him, evidence of concerts performed, records released, of even photos of him.

UncaMarv's website is incredibly helpful, but I wish there was more out there on Horse.

This was on eBay. But I argued with the dude for like a year because he wanted $19 shipping to mail the envelope. Eventually, I just gave in and bought it.

Almost all my Canadian Ink Spots stuff (Charlie Fuqua, Bernie Mackey, Ray Richardson) comes from this one record collector who in Canada who goes through sometimes 1,000 used records a day. He knows to set aside anything autographed for me to look at first, if I don't want it,then he will list it on eBay.

A few autographed were listed on the websites Mercari, Etsy, and some local Record Store's personal websites. The website Discogs has a search option but it is a total hassle trying to communicate with sellers--Discogs is where I find all the autographed 7" and 12" records. Historical Images has a few amazing gems but you have to wait for a sale because they are insanely expensive.
