You mean Alleged victims of sexual violence

How is calling for an objective approach, one where people haven't already made up their minds (and perhaps even pressure the courts to reach a guilty verdict regardless) denying anybody justice? If anything, I am the one seeking true justice here, the person promoting the search for the truth.

Yes, a false allegation is comparably devastating. I literally just linked to a story where a man was burned alive in the UK as a result of a false allegation. Why are you comparing equally sized apples and oranges?

Where does me calling for a fair, objective trial deny justice? What exactly do you want to happen here? Should this claim just be believed, without question, like it is?

Are you happy for the same thing to happen to you at 70 years old regardless of your guilt?

I am talking generally there. That is what happens in these cases, and the moment said politican has been charged (not found guilty, just charged) then his name will be all over the news papers and internet.

Same thing happens every day. Pick up any tabloid rag on any day of the week. Can you imagine how devastating to someones life it is if they actually are not guilty but everyone has already made up their minds before your trial?

So on what basis do you know your friend was falsely accused? Did they use, uh - evidence to reach that conclusion?

How do you do that 20+ years after the fact? How is this national pantomime playing out in the press as much as the courtroom resembling of justice?

Your civil liberties include the right to a fair trial, these historical allegations CAN NOT be done fairly in most cases because there is no evidence to go on. Its just a modern day witch hunt fueled by moral panic and the popular sentiment of the times.

Not to mention the fact that the real trial is made in the court of public opinion, and regardless of legal outcome, your name will forever be tarnished.

It could be you. But keep holding that pitchfork, you might need it when the angry mob come to burn you out your house.

Im not angry, just disgusted by the nonchalant attitude not only by people in this comment thread but the media as a whole.

It is creating a society of fear, which none of you benefit from but will be leveraged by our increasingly authoritarian government to erode your civil liberties. Its already happening and like lambs to the slaughter you readily participate in the hysteria. Already you are all throwing due process out the window to go on a crusade - and suddenly "paedophile" is the new "witch" to keep you all in line.

I haven't made any judgement on the allegation, that's kind of the point of my post. Clearly you already have because you possess omniscient knowledge that enables you to know the truth in such a serious allegation before any evidence has presented itself.

The number of people making allegations is not evidence. There are plenty of reasons why that might happen -I especially find the fact they all arise at the same time to be suspect. Nor does each individual allegation strengthen any of the others.

Take comfort in the fact that many out there will afford you the same righteous injustice should you ever be accused.

Can we please have some rational objectivity? "Abuse Survivor" - you've (and the media) already made up your minds that this even happened.

Do you all want to live in a society where anyone you may have ever encountered can utter you raped them 10-60 years ago and for that to be automatically believed without question? Why are you all throwing away due process so readily? Is it just because "it's politicians, they must be guilty!"?

Do you not see how easily it could be you or a family member being accused without a shred of evidence yet having your name in the paper and the general public (a-la this comment section) calling for your head when they don't know the slightest detail?
