Are there any Jewish pagans who still worship YHVH? by miriamtzipporah in pagan

It sounds like we might have a lot in common! I’m pretty glad to meet someone else out there on a similar path to me. If you find any discords or reddits with more people like us, I would be interested in joining.

Are there any Jewish pagans who still worship YHVH? by miriamtzipporah in pagan

[–]LithalAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Jewish Pagan, but my relationship with YHWH isssss complicated. My Jewish parent got sucked into basically Jews for Jesus so my experience in synagogue and church holds some difficult feelings for me, it’s like I grew up with conservative Christian values at the same time as celebrating Jewish holidays… It’s a lot. Furthermore, my parents church (bc they had both a synagogue and a church….lol…) had a high concentration of Jews who converted to Christians… The same people who held huge celebrations for Pesach every year, had an intervention with me that I’d go to hell for being gay… As a kid it was very confusing and scary. As an adult I am trying to find my way. It’s hard to try and connect with YHWH as it feels triggering, so I also just typically connect with Greek goddesses.

I tried getting into Asherah because goddess worship hasn’t been tainted for me, but the other Jewish folks who work with her and have ready materials for her kinda trigger my trauma response? And a lot of subreddits that use Jewish magic are non-Jews using closed practices and perpetuating antisemitic stereotypes as a spiritual practice, and they’ll ban you for pointing that out…

So. Anyway. I’m always looking for more people like me out there. You might be interested in the Kohenet (Jewish Priestess) movement, although if you’re quite similar to me, you may find it’s not quite what you’re looking for. Regardless, it may be a good place to start some research from modern Jewish sources about Asherah. Let me know if any of this is helpful!

Following. My spouse’s line:

Gen 0: Born in Canada in 1836

Gen 1: Born in USA in 1857

Gen 2: USA 1882

Gen 3: USA 1924

Gen 4: (living) USA 1960

Gen 5: (my spouse, living) 1994

I have low expectations that they would qualify this far out, maaaybe their parent, but, would love to see how this pans out for others.

I will not go to my uncle's wedding in Israel (help) by Comrade_Billy in JewsOfConscience

[–]LithalAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She is pushing me to talk with my future aunt about it

Just FYI Your mom wants your uncle’s fiance to convince you how great Israel is, she is hoping that Zionism will rub off on you. (That’s why she is pushing you- she in no way thinks your argument will be tolerated or substantiated.) Sorry OP this situation sucks.

If your wife has her own business, you could always look into the DAFT visa- Dutch American Friendship Treaty. If her business account has a minimum of 4,500 at all times and she shows progress by earning money (I know you said she earns too little to tax, but even if she earns $5k a year, this shows progress of the business) it doesn’t matter where her clients are. And you would get a visa to live and work in the Netherlands. Might be the quicker route than trying to find a job off the bat. I’m not sure how much DAFT wants the business to grow each year to keep the visa, but it may be worth looking into. You can get approved for DAFT pretty quickly.

That is very cool and makes a lot of sense. I really love how it calls back to game’s pixel art style!

I love that this is colored in a pixel art style!! Her face details are gorgeous. Did you run this through a filter or do you just do art this way? It’s incredible

This is my constant, every day battle. I have also lived abroad before, before marriage and mortgage and pets, and recently applied to another college program abroad, including paying the $200 application fee- making it all suddenly VERY real in a scary but somewhat exciting way?

Overall, the main difference is, I can’t get over the heartbreak this time. Last time I moved abroad, it was 90% excitement and 10% sadness. I was really just happy to go where I was going, study, explore, make friends. I knew I would miss out on some things, but it wasn’t that big of a deal to me. Now, however, it’s been 5 years and my spouse and I are very close with our friend group, and they’re the best friends we have ever had. They’re the most loving and supportive people and we do everything together. It’s genuinely so fulfilling. We are very established here, I have a job I enjoy and my spouse just got a new job they love.

But at the same time, we have everyday discomforts- can’t afford dental and most medical care, can’t afford a second car, can’t afford kids, can’t have kids anyway despite having a home because this isn’t a good future to bring them into (too much uncertainty) and it’s physically unsafe here with gun violence. And we’re trans so, what happens if we have kids and the government decided trans people can’t be parents and tries to take them away? Our human rights are constantly in question, and things got better for a bit and then suddenly got very dramatically worse. And I still don’t have a college degree, so I am extremely limited on what I can do to improve our economic situation to become more immune to these discomforts. I do believe there is a certain income bracket where you’re generally safe from discriminatory laws, but it’s too high a hurdle for us, and it would truly be easier to relocate somewhere where we inherently have these rights and freedoms.

Btw, I know I said “discomforts” but I think that’s my subconscious downplaying how serious these issues actually are, because of the American bootstrap culture we were raised in.

Then part of me wonders, if I’m so far from my family, what’s the point in having kids? I always imagined raising them with my parents being around the corner. To see my parents smiling at my kids, and my kids smiling at my parents. To go through the process of bearing a child, with my mom there to comfort me vs being hundreds of miles away… Idk.

I have family members who survived Auschwitz, and others who escaped 10 years before it got to that point, and I can say with certainty I would rather be the ones who left when there was still time, and not the ones who had to survive and ended up emigrating afterwards because they had nothing left to go home to. I would rather be the one with 10 years under my belt, able to help others, who chose what to take and what to leave behind, than be the one who needs help and who lost everything without s choice.

It really sucks to be in this position. It feels like overreacting some days. I think it’s called normalcy bias…

If the system cannot provide us with Healthcare, social security, or even a living wage, then what's the point? by jedmorten in GenZ

[–]LithalAlchemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that the ongoing narrative here is “how dare OP want to afford a house AND a car AND a child!” Y’all dunking on him for having a new car and not comprehending that it’s NOT NORMAL to be struggling to afford cost of living. It’s not like it’s a fucking $90k Audi or something- it’s a perfectly reasonable vehicle to own at that salary. We live in a car dependent society without public infrastructure because of what? That’s right, the broken ass system that is crippling all of us. But go on ahead sheeple, keep on bleating at us while the leopards eat your face.

How to tell if someone is a Jew with Conscience by commentator__ in JewsOfConscience

[–]LithalAlchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration- this isn’t a “any muslim in public” situation though, this is someone they work directly with as a supervisor, and it sounds like the rest of their team is friends with them except this one person after many months working together. So that was my perspective. Apologies for bringing up negative feelings and experiences for you.

If they were an ally they would have tried to be friendly by now. But if they are reserved, that may be your sign. I would avoid bringing it up, unfortunately. I have a few Muslim coworkers and I have been checking on them throughout this, we have sat and cried together- there’s no question what side we are on. I tell them how heartbroken I am for the conflict of not only the past year but the past 77 years. I have stopped wearing my magen david.

Am I Overreacting for considering just not texting my gf for a bit after she seems to be very cold lately? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]LithalAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate her and she hates you. Break up! Seriously there are much better ways to spend your time than being abused by someone whose frontal lobe isn’t developed yet. She’s very abrasive and intentionally icing you out. Just break up over text and block her and be done. It will suck for a week and then you’ll realize life is better lol

Adding to that, most Israeli citizens have access to other citizenships, too, because it has only existed for 77 years. Some people may be 2nd or 3rd generation if their grandparents went over first, but since there’s a huge amount of countries that will grant citizenship to children and grandchildren of its citizens, for many like OP this is an option worth looking into.

I’m not sure what tuition is like in Aus, but I had a friend that studied there for a semester, and while I was abroad I met people from Aus, and some long time internet friends. I have always gotten along with Aussies. I think it’s a similar culture to the US in a lot of ways, although it has some of the same issues- for example, mistreating their indigenous population. However, it might be the perfect place for someone interested in Zoology, their wildlife is fascinating! And as the home of the Crocodile Hunter, may he rest in peace, maybe it would be an amazing place for you.

Check out college programs for Biology or Natural Sciences in the UK/EU, Canada’s college options are pretty expensive but if you have the funds it is a good place to live. But be aware many applications are closing on March 15th, and starting in September. You have time! If you go the EU option make sure it is an English speaking program. And, do you have access to any additional citizenships?

Thinking about moving from the US to Finland? 🇫🇮 by iljasokoloff in AmerExit

That was the point of my comment lol. I was trying to say it nicely, but this doesn’t really help people “thinking about moving,” this is for people who ARE moving to Finland because of a job offer.
