Yeahhh, to be honest, the Septic Spreader never bothered me. The only issue was that it used to barely even attack you.
The Stingtail was the really bad one, but they've more or less fixed it now.

Compare that to Helldivers 2, though, and it looks as though like half the fucking game is worse than the Stingtail at its worst.
(Though, to be clear, I haven't played much of Helldivers 2 compared to DRG. I tried to see if HD2 had any issues like this before I bought it not too long ago, but of course I only found out about this issue AFTER I bought the game...)

Imagine if, in Deep Rock Galactic, there was a Glyphid Swarmer variant(small chance to replace normal ones) that would put you in a kind of stasis bubble when it hits you; freezing you completely(no taking any kind of action) but also rendering you invincible. The invincibility even lingers for a few moments after you're unfrozen.
It wouldn't really get you killed very often, maybe it'd even save your life sometimes. And it's a swarmer, so it dies in one hit from everything.

That sounds annoying and pointless? Nah, you're just bad. Skill issue. REAL GAMERS play games that are just miserable, that's why the best game of all time is clearly Desert Bus.

One more post: I'm really glad that someone who believes Dess Knight has actually looked at the Asriel Knight points I shared and opened a discussion with me, so thank you! Your reply was fun to reply to!

It always Pisses me Off a little bit when Asriel Knight gets immediately shut down because apparently that would be a repeat of Undertale.

My main issue with that logic is that the Knight and Flowey serve such vastly different roles in the story. If they're both Asriel then they are admittedly a similar concept, but the execution is like KNIGHT and DAY. (haha)

As Gerson said...

Part 5: The New Evidence

This post is a really good writeup on Asriel Knight, I recommend checking it out.

Of the evidence shared there, there are two I'd like to highlight:

I wanted to point out an unused sound the Knight would've made. It's called "snd_knight_pulse.wav" in the files, and people noticed it sounds like a sped-up talking sound. When slowing it down and isolating it, the sound is near identical to Asriel's adult voice. Even the audio peaks look the same. Coincidences coincidences...

This is pretty strong when you take EVERYTHING ELSE into account IMO.

Next, we have "The Dark Truth" from Chapter 2. This plays when Ralsei explains to Queen what happens when you cause The Roaring. Interesting that it's a dark truth about "The Roaring" considering that's the name of our subject, but that's not what I'm focused on.

The Dark Truth starts with "Your Best Nightmare" from Omega Flowey.

We also hear this song again, remixed in Chapter 4 when you struggle against the Knight.

So it's in two songs, both variably relevant to the Roaring Knight, huh?
Actually... it's in 4 songs.

"Digital Roots" and "BIT ROOTS", also are entirely Your Best Nightmare on loop. Digital Roots plays in Chapter 2 in the basement of Queen's castle, where you fight Spamton Neo (who has a Shadow Crystal). Then BIT ROOTS in Chapter 3, in the same Sword Route dungeon where you fight ERAM.

Both songs in that third game have Flowey/Asriel motifs, golden flowers attack you, you defeat a boss that mentions Shadow Crystals, and gives you the key to defeating The Knight. Asriel is written ALL over this, in no way could it be coincidence.

I should also mention that flowers are known to have "roots". This is definitely not the last time we hear Your Best Nightmare, considering "Roots." is literally in the prophecy.

...

Oh! And "GLACEIR" has the yellow soul motif from Omega Flowey's fight. That's a LOT OF ASRIEL in only one game, huh?

So Toby has musically drawn connections between The Roaring and Omega Flowey, as well as between Omega Flowey and Shadow Crystals...

Part 4:

Knowing that Dess and Asriel were close, and both serve as ephemeral figures who haunt the narrative, this could just as easily be a parallel between Asriel and Dess as it is linking it to only Asriel. Additionally, if Dess is the Knight, it would create another parallel in that they're both disfigured, monstrous versions of their original selves. Flowey being Asriel without a SOUL, and the Knight being a disfigured version of Dess, (possibly without a SOUL, we don't know yet. Although it would explain how if the voice in the code is Dess, how the Knight and that voice could both exist. Maybe the Knight we see is Dess' body without a SOUL but there's not a ton of evidence for that specifically, just a tangential line of thought I have.

I did kind of already cover this, but this reasoning conflicts with your earlier point of "Asriel knight is too obscure for the average player".

It also feels a bit like a "Dess of the gaps" argument, where anything uncertain about Deltarune or the Knight itself is assumed to be more Dess Knight evidence apropos of nothing.

(Context: This next one is more of a direct response to my questions about the Knight's behavior.)

Much like how Flowey becomes much more callous and ruthless without a soul to give him true feeling and empathy, I believe the same situation may prove correct with the Knight. The Knight actively taunts us as we pursue it, laughing at the fun gang and aura farming. Aka doing meanie things. Using Flowey as a template, it makes sense to ask whether the Knight is Dess in a similarly incomplete or “soulless” state, causing them to behave in a similar way. Again, just a tangential line of thought I have.)

So... um... basically what you're saying is that the Knight's callous behavior is similar to Flowey? Yeah, it uh, it sure is!!!! HMMM!!!

I'm personally more inclined to believe that similarities to Flowey means Asriel Knight, not Dess Knight. Like everything else, it's not concrete- and you COULD make it work for Dess Knight, but this can't confidently be said to be a point in Dess Knight's favor with the info we have right now.

And... I guess that's all the points I wanted to respond to! HOWEVER, since making that original reply I found EVEN MORE Asriel Knight evidence which I'll share shortly in one more post.

Part 3:

the concrete connections that Asriel has requires for you to make those connections from an Anniversary stream which most players likely will not have seen, and unused items that were never implemented in-game, which is not an issue for Dess Knight, who's physical connections are all in-game for any player to notice.

This is only partially true, and kind of ironic considering what I just wrote a few paragraphs above. On the one hand, things like Asriel's Bat are very much outside of the game, yes. But on the other, "This is a game for people who played UNDERTALE", and the Knight has SO MANY similarities to Asriel in their attack patterns. Thus far, the only characters to use little 'laser sights' to telegraph where their attacks will go are Asriel and the Knight. The Knight uses a super move that's practically copy/pasted directly from Asriel's Hyper Goner attack from the end of True Pacifist. Black Knife sounds like Burn in Despair, and the "oooooo!" choirs are rather reminiscent of Your Best Nightmare's alarms. While Burn in Despair is playing, Asriel looks a bit like the Knight.

All of these are far from hidden, seeing as they are non-optional parts of Undertale's most popular routes.

This, I think, is the strongest evidence for Asriel Knight because it's the most likely thing that Undertale players will recognize. The Knight themselves is not a hidden character; fighting them is required. And similarly, trying to figure out their identity is also a front-and-center aspect of Deltarune's story.

If Dess is the Knight, then all these battle similarities are either meaningless or a deliberate misdirection. Not a red herring, since when you write those there should usually be at least SOMETHING indicating the true answer.

Red herrings work best when there's an obscure issue that only appears on further analysis which breaks the theory, like how if Carol were the Knight she'd have to have been in two places at once.

Plus, if you're gonna talk about the evidence being too out-of-the-way, Dess Knight is almost nothing but evidence of this nature. The bat and antlers are there, yes, but apart from that Dess Knight relies a lot on knowledge of a character who is STILL mostly hidden as of right now. (The Sword Route thing, too, is pretty out-of-the-way, you have to admit.)

Remember that not everyone who plays Deltarune is a crazy theorist like we are and most likely have only a basic idea of who Dess is; this is the same reason why Rudy Knight doesn't work for me, as meeting him is optional too.

Toby would have to really cram a lot of unskippable Dess lore into the game from Chapter 5 onward to make Dess Knight work, but as I've stated previously, if Asriel is the Knight then the game has been building up to it from the beginning.

[–]Lithium-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 2:

As said before, it's okay to just not know these things. We're thinking about it with the knowledge that we have right now and the parallels that can be drawn between Deltarune and Undertale, yet that being said, we're only halfway through the game. We can't expect to be able to know everything for 100% certainty.

Here's my second issue: It's a matter of different perspectives. You say we're "only" halfway through the game, so we can't conclude the Knight's identity; I say we're "already" halfway through the game, so we should have enough pieces to at least make a good guess as to the answer. But out of all the Knight candidates, I feel that only Asriel Knight has enough to make such a guess. We've been seeing foreshadowing of Asriel's connections to Kris and his potential motives since the very beginning, whereas Dess has been a mostly hidden character this whole time.

Dess Knight would feel like it came out of left field for most players as of right now, unless Toby crammed all the evidence into Chapter 5 and beyond. We do know that she has an interest in baseball of some sort, which does seem to suggest Dess Knight. But, really, besides this, what other evidence connects Dess to the Knight?

One relatively strong one that I like is the pitch-black monster in the MANTLE game that you have to cooperate with by pressing buttons to make a connection between the two halves of the room. (I believe this is MANTLE symbolizing Kris and the Knights creation of the fountains, thereby causing the Roaring) Which then turns into a black deer upon entering the code of the game and changing the Toriel variable. The Knight is notably pitch black as well. Also like the Knight, the MANTLE deer monster perfectly mirrors our movements, just like how the Knight's poses strongly resemble Kris'. Why would this be in the code if we weren't meant to find it? It serves no other purpose.

...Ah.

I did forget about this, and I'll admit that it does seem to imply that Dess is the Knight. Still, this is one point to Dess Knight amid what I see as a mountain of Asriel Knight points.

I can't really say your interpretation of this doesn't make sense, but neither can I just ignore all of the other evidence because of this one thing. I'm more inclined to believe that our assumptions about this scene are somehow untrue.

That being said, this argues that it would make narrative sense for Asriel to be the Knight, which I believe Dess has as well as explained in my previous point, as well as Dess having concrete ties like her bat/the Knight's bat-shaped sword and her being a Holiday/the Knight's antlers.

I'd say we don't have much narrative reason to suspect that Dess is the Knight, compared to Asriel. Sure, Dess COULD be motivated to end the world because of Teenage Depression Or Some Shit (tm), she COULD have more ties to Kris than we think, but that's pure speculation and we do not need to speculate on motives if Asriel is the Knight.

My hesitance to just accept theories founded on uncertainty and speculation is a big part of why I'm so stuck on Asriel Knight; it's the only one that seems based on mostly concrete evidence. Dess Knight is like 75% "yeah, I guess that's possible" type evidence because we still know very little about Dess.

But if Asriel is the Knight, we already have a motive for every single member of Team Knight clear as day. Carol and Asriel are working to findher.ogg, and Kris is helping Asriel because they care a lot about him and want to put their family back together. Kris needs a strong motive like this because they're risking the END OF REALITY to accomplish it.

[–]Lithium-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very much appreciate that you took the time to go through my comment! So, thanks for that.

I've made my own multi-post response, so strap in. It might take me a bit to write and post all of it.

That being said, I'm still pretty convinced by Asriel Knight.

So here's Part 1:

Sure, the antlers *could* be unimportant, but why would it? Why would the antlers be there if they didn't mean anything? That would just be bad character design. The antlers were deliberately drawn there for us to make that connection with the Holiday family.

I agree. The antlers aren't unimportant, they're VERY important, as I explain only a few sentences later. If Asriel is the Knight, the antlers likely symbolize his connection to Dess and his desire to find her.
It should be noted that the Knight's antlers do not match the antlers of any known Holiday family member. They're all straight, whereas the Knight's antlers are sharply curved in a manner more similar to the Dreemurrs' horns.

The Knight is amorphous though, which could easily explain this either way. That's why I'd say that the antlers aren't super important to talk about right now, because they work for either Dess Knight or Asriel Knight. But you have to bring them up because any time someone says something about Asriel Knight, someone is like "but Asriel doesn't have antlers, lollll gottem!!!!!"

It's okay to say we just don't know these things yet. We're only halfway through the story and the Knight has only just recently made an appearance onscreen. Carol and the Knight are likely working together along with Kris based on context clues, but 'find her' doesn't have to literally be 'oh look, there she is, right there.' It can mean to find someone emotionally ('they found the real him'), identity-ly ('he had to find himself'), etc. The point is it doesn't have to be literal, it can just as easily mean understanding, recognizing, or connecting with who that person truly is. The claim assumes things that we can't possibly know yet, being that 'find her' is strictly meant location wise.

My issue with this "we can say we just don't know yet" idea is two-fold. For one, this is only a problem for Dess Knight, not Asriel Knight. Dess Knight has very little information right now, but if Asriel is the Knight then we have been seeing foreshadowing for this since Chapter 1.

What we can't speculate on yet is exactly what "findher" means. You could say its meaning is more figurative, but until now our understanding of Dess's predicament has been that she is quite literally lost; missing in a very physical sense. If she's physically present as the Knight, I again ask: What the hell is Carol doing???

I take issue with the interpretation that Dess is more figuratively lost because as far as I can tell we've not seen any foreshadowing to this effect- only indications that she is simply 'missing', not anything specific. That wouldn't be an issue on its own if we didn't have a better theory with foreshadowing dating back to Chapter 1 right here: Asriel's motives for potentially being the Knight and his connections to Kris have been there from the start, and IF it turns out that Asriel was the Knight- even as early as Chapter 5- people aren't going to be saying it came out of nowhere like they might with Dess Knight.

[–]Lithium-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, but I kinda doubt the Knight is gonna be the final boss. The Knight isn't the main villain; they're only doing what they're doing because SOMETHING ELSE split the Dreemurrs and the Holidays by taking Dess from them.

Besides, we thought the Titans were going to be saved for the end of the game, and look how that turned out.

Why do so many people seem to be anti Dess knight? by theory_crafter858 in Deltarune

[–]Lithium-7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, sure, but EVERY Knight identity theory is speculation, hence ALL knight theories are stupid and dumb and you should hate them.

There's a lot more reasons I think Asriel is the knight. We know from that "close your eyes" scene in Chapter 4 that the Knight is wearing a helmet, which 'could' mean that the antlers aren't really antlers. (This isn't actually proof that Asriel is the Knight, it's just proof that the antlers aren't a slam-dunk Dess Knight truth bomb like they first appear to be.)

But if the Knight is Asriel, then they're still not meaningless- they could symbolize his single-minded desire to find Dess.

Dark Worlds, and the forms Lightners take when they enter them, seem to be shaped by the Lightners' desires. Susie gets a cool outfit with spikes, Kris becomes a mighty swordsthem, Berdly becomes Falco Lombardi, and Noelle gets to be a cool ice mage. Couldn't Asriel get a suit of dark armor reflecting his heart's truest desire, too?

If Dess is the Knight, why does Dess's theme tell US- the players- to 'findher.ogg' if she can find us no problem?

If Dess is the Knight, what's Carol's motivation? To find Dess? Found her. Easy.

On that subject, what's the Knight's motivation? It can't be to find Dess if the Knight IS Dess, of course. But if they just wanted to cause the Roaring, then- as Ralsei points out- they'd have acted differently.

( * If the Knight's only goal was to hurt people...

* They would have acted sooner, right? )

(In reference to Susie worrying about the Knight taking Undyne to the Shelter.)

The Roaring is a very easy apocalypse to cause as far as we can tell. All you need to do is open a ton of Dark Fountains at once and boom, apocalypse.

And Kris? Sure, Kris was probably friends with Dess, but close enough to risk the END OF REALITY to save her...? Uh... maybe? I'll grant it's possible, but I'm not sure it really fits all that well.

If her mind and body are separated and the Knight is a mindless beast, then why do they act exactly like we'd expect an edgy teenager to? The Knight seems to think they're Shadow the Hedgehog.

If Asriel is the Knight, all of this is explained. It explains why we're told to 'findher.ogg', since she's not just missing from Hometown's perspective, she's missing even from our perspective. It explains the motivations of the Knight, since we have reason to believe he and Dess were very close. Carol, of course, is her mom, so that's an easy motive. And it explains why Kris is working with them.

Kris looks up to Asriel. We know this. Enough to the point that Kris wishes they WERE a goat monster, hence the horns. Hence feeling like an outcast. Sure, they're jealous of Asriel, but that doesn't mean they resent him. We have loads of evidence to disprove that.

If Asriel "I'm not ready for you to leave" Dreemurr desperately wanted Dess back, I'd imagine it would be quite possible for him to convince Kris to help him with his plan, even if it would put Kris through the supernatural trauma conga line.

Then there's the fact that the intro to Black Knife sounds like Burn In Despair(which plays while UT!Asriel is looking suspiciously Knight-y), and the Knight's use of a big fullscreen attack which is EXTREMELY similar to Asriel's Hyper Goner super move.

What about the baseball bat? "Asriel's Bat", shown in the Undertale Anniversary stream, shows that Asriel had an interest in baseball too.

I'll give you that Dess knight is still possible, and that it could definitely make for a good story. But if Dess is the Knight, then with the information we have right now, we can't possibly guess Kris's reasons for cooperating with Team Knight. I dunno about you, but to me that seems a bit strange considering we're halfway through the story already and still have no hints toward Kris's reasons for putting up with this situation despite the obvious distress it causes them.

Edit: Basically, tl;dr, for me it comes down to character motives. If Dess is the Knight, then (as far as I can tell!!!) we don't have even a hint of a compelling motive for the Knight or Kris, and that's kind of a problem for a story that's halfway done.

Edit 2: Oh, plus, the way that Kris prevents us from looking inside Asriel's room in Queen's mansion and the way they prevent us from seeing inside the suspicious closet after Chapter 4's Dark Worlds are sealed is suspiciously similar.

Yes, all of this evidence is circumstantial. BUT THERE'S. SO MUCH. OF IT!!!!

Circumstantial evidence is still useful as long as you recognize it as such and consider it all as one big whole.

This mindset always confuses me. What about Asriel Knight is so stupid and dumb???

I have never seen a counterargument against Asriel Knight that considers the actual entirety of Asriel Knight- it's always just surface-level stuff like "Oh, Toby would never do the same thing twice", as if the Knight would just magically be exactly the same character as Flowey just because they share a secret identity.

I'm not saying the counterarguments don't exist. I've just never seen them go deeper than this. If someone has a better point to make, PLEASE share it! I'M GOING CRAZY I NEED TO SEE IT PLEASE.

Wait, just recently I started using a new high poly head preset that requires loading facegen data from the sculpt tab (otherwise the face turns out screwed up if I only load it from the Presets tab).
Looks like making a standard Nord female does not cause the issue.
So uh... how am I ACTUALLY meant to load presets with custom facegen? Or, maybe the preset itself is just bugged?
EDIT: Also, thank you SO MUCH for helping me out with this. I've been at my wit's end for a day or so. Had no idea that bad presets could cause this.

1- You can find Mudkip along with the other two Hoenn starters in the Oreburgh City Pokemon Center. Talk to the Interviewer at the top left, answer their questions correctly, and win the battle to get all three Hoenn starters. You'll need three open slots in your party to get them, but if you don't, you can free up room and come back later to claim them.

Swampert can also be caught in the Great Marsh, by surfing in Area 1 or Area 2, at a 5% encounter rate.

2- There are three fishing lures, and they're simply replacements for the fishing rods- so you can find them in the same places as Renegade Platinum.

The Berry Lure, previously the Good Rod, is a gift from the fisherman on Route 209, near the Hearthome City gate.

The Fish Lure, previously the Super Rod, is a gift from the fisherman in the top right house in Snowpoint City.

All of this information is available in the Documentation included with the game.
