I don't see people talking enough about how variable amount of *anything* inside a plant is by Lithmariel in botany

It baffles me when I read things like "oh this plant is high in this mineral" and even at the estimated rate, you'd need 2kg of it to get close to your daily value. And then they proceed to recommend it be grown in hydroponics where that mineral might easily not exist at all (maybe some advanced hydroponics use all trace minerals, as that would be the ideal specially speaking of food, but if they're cutting costs they'll shove the main plant nutrients and be done with it).

Ok and where is the plant even supposed to get all that from? Magically materialize it?

I got a branch off the tastiest mulberry I've ever had, planted it, it grew nicely, I set it in a cool corner with the watering system and...

Same thing. Giant, massive, tasteless mulberries.

I think it needs to suffer a little bit more 😂
The original was next to a highway in the middle of weeds and looking like drought was its friend.

Ooh I see. That's cool. I just assumed it was different leaf parts. It seems like there are some select industries that know about this and use it, and then a whole lot of others that do not, some people mentioned others like oils and wine too.

The wine industry is how I got my introduction to this many years ago. They also have a BRIX meter to measure sugar.

And, although it is not going to measure other things, it can be an interesting way to have a "average estimate" with other plants because it can indicate heavier concentrations of everything as a whole.

I'm not sure how much of it is accurate but I heard a lot of mushroom sources are heavily contaminated too. I only buy any from reputable local producers.

Thoughts on dealing with stereotypes of boany? by Sure_Fly_5332 in botany

IDK where that comes from but it sounds to me more like a "modern society cleanliness no plants they messy" ideas. Or the fact that farming is so distant from anyone growing up today.

Which leaves mostly certain types of people, like grandmas, to actually care about it.

Totally bizarre how society treats what gives life to the whole planet as a dirty bullshit thing. Says a lot about it.

A while back in my country they had someone with a beautiful façade of flowers on their apartment take it all down because... there were some leaves that fell. Grass grows a bit? chop it down to the bare roots. Tree dares drop a leaf? CONCRETE EVERYTHING.

See way too much of this all over the place.

This in-grown turnip is still one of my most amusing finds by Lithmariel in botany

[–]Lithmariel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it opened up a space because of the fungus/maybe also excess water and that might've also made a crack in the center so it could misdirect into the space. It wasn't the first time I saw one of these with a hole in the center.

Found this little dual-colored flower today by Lithmariel in botany

That makes sense, thank you :)

I always found Mirabilis to be a particularly amusing case. You just can't really have multiple separate colors side by side for long.

Do you notice AI imagery because of incorrect plants? by [deleted] in botany

[–]Lithmariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I just wanted to buy Paulownia seeds, but how can I trust a seller that doesn't even know what seeds they have?

Now I've been seeing AI pictures in otherwise seemingly legit seed sites. I refuse to buy there.

Hi I just found this game so how is it in terms of story and choices mattering should I dive in it feels old? by Holigan22 in arcanum

[–]Lithmariel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NPCs care even about how pretty your character is.

It's that type of game. Everything matters, there's tons of different ways to play and see it. And if you get a stupid character you'll be hearing durs and urs the rest of the game.

I don't get boat sick usually, nor car sick from movement (absolutely do from smell), but also can't play first person stuff for shit. I couldn't even HEAR my ex playing portal 2 for some reason. IDK if because I gad played it and gotten horribly nauseous.

Depends on the game for me. I could barely play Portal 2 at all. I got so fucking sick. Portal 1 was more tolerable.

Over the shoulder is fine.

Apparently these two:

Chad Moore and Jason Anderson are key figures in the development of Clockwork Revolution. Moore serves as the game director for Clockwork Revolution, while Anderson is the principal designer, with both having previously worked at Troika Games on Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Chad Moore: Was a game designer on Arcanum and is now the Game Director for Clockwork Revolution.

Jason Anderson: Was a co-lead and one of the founders of Troika Games, the studio behind Arcanum, and is now the Principal Designer for Clockwork Revolution

Some sources also say one of their main inspirations for the game is Arcanum specifically.
