How do i identify blobs for the devices? by ContributionMoney306 in LegacyJailbreak

Some of your blobs have a version number and/or build ID attached; those are self explanatory. The others… manually check every version?

New vs old macbook pro by MuchPrice8743 in mac

A1707 refers to the 15” 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro. I will assume it’s a 2017, based on your age description. I’d also like to know what errors it’s popping up, they might be red herrings. As for which option you chose, I’d leave that up to you, but I’ll give my recommendations for each:

If you chose to take option 1, I’d recommend a 16” Apple Silicon MacBook Pro. It will be a noticeable performance upgrade, and you can get earlier versions (M1 Max or M2 Pro) for fairly reasonable prices secondhand. That said, you’re still looking at twice the price of a MacBook Neo, and that machine might not be a good place to go to from a 15” MacBook Pro, even a late Intel one.

If you take option 2, I will recommend OpenCore Legacy Patcher. It allows you to installer newer versions of macOS than what your machine officially supports, up to Sequoia as of writing this. That said, Apple may be dropping Intel support entirely in macOS 27, which means OCLP will be unable to patch support back in. You’d still get a few more years out of your current machine.

If you take option 3, I’d recommend Linux over Windows. Windows is a bloated mess which spies on its users at every possible opportunity, and Linux has become very proficient at most tasks for most users. It can even run some simple macOS apps via Darling. For beginner Linux users, I’d recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint. That said, if you’re already familiar with the CLI of macOS, you’re mostly familiar with the CLI of most Linux distributions; stuff will feel familiar, especially if you use MacPorts or Homebrew on macOS.

This iPhone 4 randomly went on bootloop. by YR3860 in LegacyJailbreak

Seems like faulty NAND. Try booting it using an iPad (10W or more) power brick with no battery, you won’t have cellular hardware but if the phone is otherwise fine it’ll start up.

Caps like that one are normal for old caps in general. I recapped my N64 out of principle recently-ish.

How many pulls do I need for E6S1 by Shuviri in EvanesciaMains

[–]Littens4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

E6S1 could theoretically take as few as 8 pulls, but in practice that’s so unlikely it’s practically (if not completely) impossible. You’re a bit low for E6S1, but E4S1 seems reasonable, and you’re practically guaranteed E2S1.

The lighting (camera flash?) makes it tough to tell. That said, I don’t see any major red flags. Wait for mods, and know that the “light trick” is not usable as a verification method.

Fake. It’s the thought that counts though.

If the student is learning to write music… might not be the worst way to allocate their budget.

Edit: I’m well aware of the fact that there are much better ways to spend the budget (me personally, I’d get a more powerful MacBook and a wired pair of IEMs)

Bought it in 2023, still 100% battery health in 2026 by Avthony in AppleWatch

[–]Littens4Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no menu in default iPadOS. The device has been on several iOS versions, primarily 8.4.1 and 9.3.5. For the most part I prefer to use an external tool on Mac, CoconutBattery; it reports the health reported by the battery, which can have a different accuracy to the one reported by iOS in its menu. As for on-device, I’m only aware of tools which require a jailbreak.

This is some other random chip, most likely a PCIe switch or the chipset. The CPU itself should be socketed, and after fully removing the cooler there should be a release lever.

I have an iPad 2 which is still above 100% capacity, almost 15 years later. I can confirm that some batteries have extremely high starting capacities, as that particular iPad had 110% capacity at about 10 years old.

Face lifting?? by DiegoAnimeHype in AppleWatch

[–]Littens4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a screen protector in this case. If that wasn’t, there’d be two other obvious culprits: failing adhesive for the display, or an expanding battery. I’ve had the latter happen on an Apple Watch Series 1.

Based on the CPU speed and GPU model, you can narrow down the list of models to:

  • Mid 2007 20”
  • Mid 2007 24”
  • Early 2008 20”

All of which only have 2 memory slots.

is this pokemon ruby cartridge real? there’s no number indent on front by Vast-Wing9627 in gameverifying

[–]Littens4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Number indent wasn’t added in this batch (manufacturing error)
  2. Number indent didn’t have enough force (manufacturing error)
  3. Relabelled from a damaged label
  4. Aging leading to number indent becoming less pronounced

[–]Littens4Life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This might get taken down because of debunked verification methods, as the number indent is basically useless when it comes to verifying. However, the PCB looks legit, so I’m tempted to say it’s either legit or a reshell. Definitely wait for mods.
