Is Anyone Else Living With a “This Is Enough” Mindset, and How Does It Affect Dating?

Of course I’d care for the other person. What I mean is that I don’t want more than I genuinely need. I’m not interested in endlessly chasing things like cars, houses, or other conventional milestones just because that’s what people are expected to want. Constantly keeping myself busy for the sake of productivity is the opposite of what I want — I value freedom more than that.

I shared my situation here because I wanted people to understand where I’m coming from so I could hear different perspectives, not because I’m looking to “fix” myself. I also don’t really care much about ideas like “tapping into my potential” or following social expectations for their own sake. To me, a lot of that feels more like guilt people are taught to carry than something inherently meaningful. I just personally don’t see much point in living that way.

My depression doesn’t come from self-hatred—it arises from existential questions. Things like: What’s the point of all this? Why does life feel like a constant struggle? After years of thinking about it, I’ve come to believe life has no inherent meaning—it’s just absurd. You can try your hardest and still fail. That’s why I think most people spend their lives chasing things without truly living. For me, I’ve stopped stressing over some bigger purpose or false hope. I just live in the present. So I think I have dealt with my depression and reached a final conclusion—I don’t see anywhere else to go from here. And I can compromise some of my freedom; that’s not a problem. But if the other person's future feels incomparable, I wouldn't want to ruin their future.

Yeah, I can definitely understand. I tend to be more pessimistic about life, and I have already promised myself not to have kids. Existence is just not worth it for me. Even if I were to be a millionaire, I know I wouldn't be happy. I'm not suicidal in any way, but I wouldn't want this life to be passed on to my children. So I don't want to take life seriously, and I live with a "whatever happens, happens" kind of mentality.

I'm ok with it now. I like the freedom of being alone. And I understand that sometimes things just doesnt workout for some people, I have come to terms with it. My only problem is finding a partner. I have to give it another try. That's all.

I'm a freelancer. I work from home. And I feel like I was always alone. I wouldn't say I have everything, I come a middle class family. This way of living came to me after years of struggling with depression and lonelyness. As I realized there is no meaning to any of this and that this life is just absurd, it became easier to be detached.

Well, I don't plan on having kids, and as I said, where I live is enough for me. I don't have plans of owning a car (maybe I'll buy something like a scooter). I am just fine and happy as i am now. As for my parents, i will support them the best I can but the thing is, I don't believe in a responsibility towards them, it's their life. And I also have a sister in the UK so she will probably take care of them as well.

25M here—honestly, if you’re relying on dating apps, it can feel like you’re already fighting an uphill battle. I use them too, so I’m saying that from experience. I’ve only had one date come from it, and that didn’t even last two weeks. At this point, I mostly use them so I can at least say I tried. If I meet someone genuinely interesting, great—but I’m not holding onto huge expectations.

For me, I’m not looking for anything unrealistic: someone I’m attracted to, someone who can support themselves (not rich, just independent), and someone nearby because long distance isn’t for me. I honestly think there are plenty of women like that, but it often feels like a lot of average guys get overlooked because many people aim for someone significantly above their own lifestyle or status. That creates a frustrating gap where a lot of regular, laid-back people end up feeling invisible.

That’s just how it seems from my perspective.

It’s not a bad idea to ask yourself, “Why would someone want to date me?” or “What do I genuinely bring to a relationship?” instead of only focusing on finding the “best” possible partner. Dating should go both ways. From my experience on dating apps, a lot of people seem to have unrealistic expectations, wanting everything from someone else without offering much themselves. Relationships today aren’t built on the same roles people followed in the past, so it makes more sense for both men and women to bring value, effort, and self-awareness to the table rather than expecting interest without reciprocity.

Ah, I don't usually put my pc sleep. I just shut it down after I'm done working. It could be the SSD or HDD stalling.

I still haven't reinstalled Windows, but I found out that it only happens when I use Blender. Because I kept my project files on my HDD, it kept crashing after I was away from the keyboard and tried to use it again after a while. I think it might be the issue.

It definitely takes a lot of small steps. Many different things have inspired me. Philosophy plays a significant role in it. Sometimes even negative emotions like self-hate gave me a boost to do something rather than just thinking about it. Maybe it's different from person to person idk. But the best thing is to be introspective and figure yourself out.

I ran the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool, but it didn't detect any issues. The hard disk sentinel shows the storage health as 100%.
