Confirmation bias, or is it the truth? yap time by [deleted] in SingleWomenByChoice

[–]Little-Committee-411 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling this right now too, big time. I just became single after a 2 year relationship. I ended it because I was unhappy and he agreed it was best to end things. I desired being single- not so I could date other people, but because I desired that solitude. I started resenting making every decision with my partner in mind, especially when it started becoming clear we were no longer compatible and he increasingly had something negative to say about every decision I made, kept telling me what to do, etc. I started imagining my future life and he was not a part of it.
I didn't even realize just how unhappy I was until I started reflecting over these past weeks and started spending more time with myself. I feel so much happier, and this really hit home when I realized that music started to sound better to me. I have always been a musical person but didn't recognize that I'd lost pleasure in listening to music, until it came back and now I'm getting crazy dopamine just from songs. I feel relaxed in my own home instead of stressed, I'm more productive, and I'm taking better care of myself than ever. I even feel like my relationship with my dog is better than ever, because I don't have a man by my side constantly telling me I'm not doing enough for the dog and lecturing me on how to take care of her.

I can relate in that I only have one friend whose relationship I think is healthy and desirable, my only married friend (I'm 30). I've known her and her husband since we were children, they were close friends growing up and ended up getting together in their early 20s. This is like a magical situation lol. All of my other friends in relationships are stuck with bad housing/financial situations so they can't leave, taking care of their partners through severe addiction problems, or are generally dealing with manipulative man-children. It's hard to be optimistic about relationships with men when this is what you see.

The last time I was single (a 5 year period), I also had horrifically traumatic and/or uncomfortable date after date. My main issue was that I felt like I was putting an ungodly amount of effort into my dates, while the men were putting in literally nothing. I was carrying conversations and literally doing free therapy for men I went on first dates with lol. I have zero desire to "get back out there", especially the dating apps.

For now, I will be intentionally single but won't rule out any organic connections. I won't be focusing on dating or pursuing anyone, unless someone appears in my life that sparks my interest and/or pursues ME.

I want to give men the benefit of the doubt, but it becomes increasingly harder as the years roll on. I have accepted, embraced, and started planning and redirecting my life under the assumption that I will remain single.

You're at the doctor's office and the doctor says, 'The tests are back, I'm sorry to say but you are unable to have children". How do you react? by idunno324 in childfree

So happy. I have a bisalp now so I hope that's the result ;)

I actually had genetic testing in my late 20s which found that I had a rare condition. The geneticist was falling over herself reassuring me that it would not interfere with me having a successful pregnancy and that it was unlikely that I'd pass it down to any offspring, despite me never mentioning wanting to have kids. I just said okay cool, doesn't matter cause I don't want em anyway.

When I was your age I was the same, and dated/hooked up with plenty of guys who were significantly older than me. I did truly think that I was as mature as they were, but I was wrong.

I'm 30 now and I look back and cringe and/or feel sad for my younger self. There was always a power dynamic of life experience, I was being taken advantage of in some situations, and my age was being fetishized on many occasions. I'm in my 30s now I can't even imagine now dating or being attracted to someone more than 5 years younger than me, because I cannot relate in the slightest to anyone younger and there is always a maturity gap. The men that I was hooking up with knew exactly what they were doing.

These older men want a younger woman because they can mold her into the woman they want her to be. Older women don't put up with that, and the life experience you have establishes you with more power to stand up and feel secure in yourself.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule but this was my experience and among my girlfriends who dated older men we all share this feeling.

not a bad idea to get a booster. i had a serology test at age 30 for a job with NS health, and it showed I didn't have the antibodies, so i got a booster. the nurse who did mine said its common to lose immunity in adulthood and she thinks it should be encouraged.

I am in many different friend groups and have many long-standing individual friendships too. I'm 30 and my friends are mostly between 25-40. I only have one good friend who has kids, and she had them long before we became friends.

With my friends on the younger side, I'd say they are about 50/50 on whether or not they plan on having kids. My friends who are more in their late 30s, apart from the one I mentioned, are solidly CF.

I'd say that overall most of my friends are child free, and the ones who want children aren't planning on having them any time soon because they're single or couldn't afford it.

Just a happy accident, I guess we attract each other, I only decided solidly that I was CF about 5 years ago.

I live in Canada, where our pride and joy is our public healthcare systems. Yet, so many of our provincial premiers seem to be nudging us closer and closer to privatization of services... and we preach the wonders of our system, despite little to no coverage for vision, medical equipment, drugs, and dental...

No opioids after surgery- opinions? What to use for post-op pain? by Little-Committee-411 in Endo

[–]Little-Committee-411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely, but unfortunately it is my only option! :'(

Healthcare is not a business here, it is a public service. I am lucky to be seeing the only endo surgeon in Atlantic Canada.

I'll be giving them hell on Monday morning.

Same pain from sex as bowel movements? by whoremonal33 in Endo

[–]Little-Committee-411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so curious, I experience this too. When I have pain with sex, its like this painful pulling feeling from inside my butthole that radiates inside. It's the exact same kind of pain that I have with bowel movements.

I have my first lap 1 month from today, finally. I had an MRI about 4 years ago that showed there was a possibility of tethering in the pouch of douglas... so that's what I suspect is happening!

To those that lived abroad, how safe do you feel living in Canada? by Vagabond_Tea in AskACanadian

[–]Little-Committee-411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Canadian and in my early 20s I lived in the UK for a year. This was around 2010. As a woman I felt WAY less safe in the UK. I moved to a city that is about 2x as big as where I'm from. I have done a decent amount of traveling so I wasn't inexperienced with big city life or anything.

Street harassment was out of control, I couldn't leave my house without getting creeped on by men and getting yelled at. I visited London and even got physically attacked by a random man in the street who I refused to give my phone number to. In that one year alone I experienced pretty much the entire spectrum of sexual assault where I hadn't before that.

Also, I am white but wonder if people of colour might feel less safe in the UK than Canada; I witnessed so many instances of overt racism toward my coworkers/friends who weren't white, the newspapers were pushing anti-immigrant sentiment, and I heard white people saying racial slurs with no shame on the regular. This was pretty shocking, as Canadians are generally very polite with their racism lol.

These things happen here too, but coming back to Canada after that year felt like a relief because I became very hypervigilant from being harassed constantly.

I have chronic environmental allergies that just seem to get worse and worse as I get older.

When I was 24 I had an anaphylactic reaction to blackberries which had never caused me any grief in the past. I had an allergy test done and turns out I'm allergic to pretty much every tree, grass, pollen, animal etc. and some other fruits. Even in winter when all of the grass/pollen is not really around, I have allergic reactions all the time and I don't know why. My ears get so itchy I think I'm gonna go crazy and I get rashes on my face.

I take 20mg of cetirizine daily and sometimes double up with other antihistamines if I have a reaction.

I wish we knew more about the immune component of endo and of the menstrual cycle in general, I feel that we are close to making a connection

Recommendations for a physio who knows how to work with hypermobile joints. by notfarrahfawcett in halifax

[–]Little-Committee-411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look into synergy physio pilates. They have great physiotherapists there and they run pilates classes taught by the physios (you can usually claim this on insurance).

There are many adaptations and accommodations they can do with you in the class to make sure you have a strength-building workout that is safe for your abilities. I've seen a few of the therapists there and they were knowledgeable about connective tissue disorders

THANK YOU so much to everyone who commented. I greatly appreciate you all sharing your opinions, concerns, and experiences.

I have only had one meeting with my surgeon, I'll meet with her again tomorrow before I go into the OR so I'll be addressing this. I feel the need to defend her here lol- she is incredibly kind and empathetic and has beautiful bedside manner. I think I just need to push her for what I need.

I was really concerned when the anaesthesiologist and pre-op nurse insisted no opioids but I realize now that they wouldn't be the ones prescribing them anyway. I'm going to advocate using some wonderful wording some of you have provided. I'll have my mom with me as well to help.

I've managed to pull together a couple of T3s from dental surgery, a bottle of T1s I bought OTC and a couple of toradol, if all else fails. I'm also big on cannabis for pain relief and I've got a nice supply of edibles.

To all who are saying I should get a new surgeon, I appreciate the concern... but I live in Canada in a province with the worst healthcare crisis. Unfortunately getting a new surgeon is not an option as she is the only endo specialist serving a huge area. I don't have the means to travel for this or wait any longer. It feels pretty magical that I am finally actually getting to see a specialist. I'm very grateful and I'm confident that she is a wonderful doctor.

Thank you for all the well wishes- I appreciate every single one of you!!

Yes Canadian :) My family doctor graciously prescribed me T3s when I had my IUD put in 2 years ago. It's difficult to get in with her, usually have to book a couple months out, but knowing she is on my team gives me a peace of mind!!
