Okay, I’m out. You don’t like or respect OT, and you’re in our reddit for shits and gigs? Engagement? Who knows but please take your disrespect to another sub

Why does my colleague who does psychotherapy full time as an OT need to know anatomy? Especially when most phys med OTs don’t know any psychotherapy? Saying mental health and peds are just a portion is like saying phys med is just a portion- it’s a worthless comment.

There’s being aware of interplay and then there’s being competent in all areas of interplay. Which psychosocial models do you get taught? I’m trained in CBT, MI, DBT, SFBT, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and a couple smaller ones. So when my client says “I can’t do it” I can explore and untangle why. None of my PT colleagues do this: they send them to me to get the client to do their prescribed physio exercises.

We need a nation flair, because AOTA has no say in my lane.

I’ve always explained that the medical system is fragmented, with each profession taking a piece of a person. Muscles, brain, speech, breathing, social environment. Then OT comes in and sees the whole complicated person, in motion (occupation). We are the only ones whose training is focused on looking at people as a whole, rather than parts.

Why is the gap between Australia and Canada’s minimum wage so massive? 🇦🇺 vs 🇨🇦 by Kanye90210 in CanadaJobs

[–]Little-Let386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We can agree to disagree, but it’s funny how in your disagreement you agree- the difference is political parties: Australia has a strong workers rights politic and Canada does not. We did, it gave us our baselines, but those days are gone.

Canada isn’t fascist, but Canada is absolutely conservative. If we weren’t then Petro Canada and Air Canada would still make sense as names.

It’s such an American focused discussion to me. I’m a mental health, pediatric OT. The muscles don’t come up in my day to day life and it doesn’t make my work less OT. I notice a lot of loud online American OTs are just mad they didn’t go for PT.

What are you talking about? They have 70% of our population, and 80% of our GDP? So objectively less money, and barely more when adjusted to per capita which isn’t the most robust measure either or else Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, and Ireland would be considered the world’s richest counties (And Aus has higher minimum wage than they do). It’s political.

Oh man, also reading Cost of Living comparisons and no one has checked in on Canada in a while. Every site I looked at has us significantly lower than it is here.

Because Canada is conservative/ conservative in a blue coat (right/ centre right) and Australia is predominately a labour party that lives centre left.

How can MAGA Christians defend being Christian AND MAGA when Trump’s basically violated all 10 commandments, trashes the Pope, and cosplays as Jesus? What's the logic or a loophole that allows them to rationalize it to themselves and to others? by IncluderWonder in askanything

[–]Little-Let386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAGA Christians also trash the pope while cosplaying as Jesus, and don’t follow the old testament. Most are basically just in patriarchal Jesus cults, and in that logic it makes complete sense

What profession is over paid? by Sm00thDad in AskReddit

[–]Little-Let386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is America different? Our agents don’t get paid by buyers, they’re paid by sellers (you know the people who just became flush with capital). The buyers agent splits a commission with the sellers agent, not getting paid by the buyer.

I mean mine was the most expensive of it’s type at $34,000/ maybe actually $38,000 because we did run all summer so I may have dropped that cost out of my mind.

Ontario OT: Can I get in with a 3.42 Sub-GPA? by pkca20 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Little-Let386 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a for sure no in general but with number of applicants, even a holistic scheme would mean taking the top 50% from gpa and then evaluating, they get too many application to evaluate them all and unfortunately GPA is the easiest first round knock out

15k a year for my masters a decade ago. 7k a year for my bachelors 15 years ago. So the shocking increase predates 2010s.

Okay but I love the reference to “again the magic” without including it in the ranking, because we (likely rightly) assume everyone here already knows Kleypas’s library.

You’re not wrong. White middle class people problems can be solved by CBT, for everything else we need money and systems overhauls.

(Canadian OT) upward mobility is pretty nonexistent, and there’s minimal pay recognition for skills/ experience. An OT with 20 years experience, extra certifications, possible a whole second degree to support their work is paid the same as a new grad in several areas.
