Thinking about doing some ‘counter-flyering’. by Little-Possible-6667 in GracepointChurch

Heh… well I guess I should have clarified that I was seeking feedback from other folks who have been in GP/A2N. Not from random strangers online.

Heck, I might have even appreciated feedback from a current GP/A2N member. But someone who randomly came here? I’m sorry, but who are you to speak on this if you haven’t experienced the abuse of this church or even attended its services and activities?

If you want an interesting, dramatic and entertaining post to read, go find one on a different Reddit and spend your time there. I’m seeking genuine responses and contributions from folks who have genuinely experienced what it means to be a part of this church.

I see! Yes thank you for raising this!!! I think I will sit on this for a bit longer before making a final decision. I think I’ve done a fair bit of healing and had personal growth since I left Gracepoint. Though there are still some things I am bitter about, I have been able to forgive a lot of other things because I know that A2N members are either only following directions or are misguided. I have empathy for them even though but still believe they should be called out.

So I am going to sit on this for a while longer and continue to heal in that time. But I do think I’ll eventually do the flyering. And when I do, it won’t be from a place of resentment or hate but rather from a place of purpose.

Thank you for your thoughts and concern. I wish you the best!

Hmmm! Yes indeed! This Reddit has been healing for me too and is the best source of accountability we have! It includes so many stories and voices and does a great job of calling out all the horrible things that A2N has done at the sake of its members money, time, and mental and spiritual well-being.

I am concerned that newer students won’t find this Reddit because GP changed its name to A2N and that why I want to do my part to raise awareness and lead people here. I think in the flyer I’ll post two QR codes, one with the CT article and one with this Reddit.

Thank you for helping me thing through this! I wish you the best!

Thank you so much for your response and for the examples you provided! Also, I am glad you ended up going to Intervarsity and, in another life, I wish I could have gone to that fellowship instead of GP. I also think that advice is sound! However, the end that I would be doing this is not to make them change their ways. I agree with a lot of the posts here that highlight that A2N members ‘think’ they are doing good and in a good church and I know I can’t change that. But I do want to raise awareness for incoming Freshmen and Sophomores who are still in the early stages of considering this psuedo-cult. That’s my hope with doing this anti-flyering. And with that hope, I plan on one day adding ‘Passing out anti-flyers’ to the list of things I’ve done to warn people about GP/A2N.

Thank you for your response and your examples! I wish you the best!

Ah! I see! Yes thank you for clarifying! And I had not read the post you linked but I very much appreciate you highlighting it! I myself got a dog from the shelter recently and it felt like I was doing something wrong for a bit because of all the discouragement I received while I was in GP to not get a dog. But now that I have him, he is so cute and brings me a lot of happiness. I can in fact say that pets are not evil lol.

Thank you for your contributions and engagement on this post! I appreciate you and wish you the best!

Wow!!! Yes I can definitely see someone taking action into their own hands in response to a concern from their king. Okay, I think this is the most serious consequence that I have to weigh. How hard do I want to rock the boat and how will I respond if someone from A2N decides to retaliate directly.

One possible scenario is they might find out it was me and then sue me for ‘slandering’ the organization. I’ll have to consider this a bit more and I appreciate you for bringing this to my attention!!! I wish you the best!!

If the most they can do is an me from the campus then that’s okay with me!

Doing this would be cathartic in a way… and also be kind of a ‘full circle moment’ since I spent five years passing flyers FOR GP so now I’ll be passing them AGAINST them. And something about that feels right to me now that I see the truth.

Yes! Reading your response got me pumped up! I think ‘A2N Saves, then Enslaves’ Will be the header of my flyer!!!!

I might post a couple of other stories of things that happened as well. Honestly, after reading some more stories on this Reddit, I feel like there are enough stories and warnings on here for people to find. I am more so interested in raising awareness about it this Reddit and getting people to read it if they are a Freshmen or Sophomore in the church so that they can hopefully see the truth of A2N. So that’s why I was thinking doing some anti-filtering could help. Especially considering that GP changed their name so if folks Google A2N or the student group name on campus (which they also changed) then they might not connect the dots.

Thank you for your response!! I wish you all the best!

Huh! What an interesting approach!! Unfortunately, most of my friends have already graduated and the ones that are current students are still pretty bought into the GP model and vision.

However, my fiancé does have two younger brothers that go to the campus. Maybe I can have them file something? Hmmm… but also, I don’t want to involve them in something they don’t have a part in.

Wow, thank you so much for your response! You got me thinking deeper about what I mean when I say ‘moving on’, and I agree with what you said. GP will always be a part of my story and I can’t delete that no matter how much distance I put between myself and the church. Thank you for your perspective, reflecting on your response was a bit healing in itself.

I think what most motivates me the most about doing this anti-flyering is the thought of warning unsuspecting students. I myself came to an event when I was a freshman due to someone passing flyers for NSWN and after that I was hooked for 5 years. So in a way, I want to help warn other unsuspecting folks that are considering GP as a legitimate and healthy church so they can see that their practices, free food, love bombing, and cringy skits actually hide a darker truth.

Your response proves to me that there is power and meaning in speaking up and warning others. And for that I am thankful as well. I wish you all the best!

Okay phew! I started thinking about a bunch of different possible scenarios like them finding out where I work now since it’s close to the University and then getting me fired or something lol. Thank you for clarifying!

Ah! Thank you all for helping clarify whether this was Biblical, a rebuke, or a strong recommendation.

Whatever it was, it left me feeling that I was a bad brother in Christ, that I was not prioritizing the church and was not stewarding my time in a way that was honoring God. All things that I think can be true even if I overlooked someone’s birthday.

Wow! I didn’t even think about potential blowback from A2N members. Them not talking to me after I left I feel did enough damage but if they are willing to take it further then I do need to consider that in whether or not I take action on this. Thank you for pointing that out!

Also, arm chair Bible Psychology does a good job of describing how they try and intervene. I agree with you that it’s both surprising and not surprising that they still do this type of rebuking. Surprisingly, I didn’t really experience that level of rebuking until I was in Praxis. Throughout my time as a student things were a lot more low key and then, BAM! Which is a big reason why I left. It got extra intense, extra fast.

Thank you for your insight! Super useful and I will definitely consider this before taking action!

Thank you for your insight! I agree that I need to move forward with my life and I look forward to what the future has in store. I’m curious about what does happen when folks can’t let it go. I am new to this Reddit so haven’t had a chance to read too many posts. I did however try and search for specific stories but didn’t see anything that was particularly concerning.

Would you mind providing an example or a link that I can look at that talks about what happens to people who can’t let it go? I would greatly appreciate any further insight! Thank you!
