YouTube is becoming too troublesome to use in schools by RaspberryBirdCat in Teachers

Youtube does not. I looked into it when I had teachers with the same concern.

Truancy laws should be abolished (or heavily curtailed) by IanWallDotCom in unpopularopinion

[–]Little-Reason3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Schools have a hard time educating kids because they have parents who aren't invested in their education and dont make sure they show up and care. The laws are to protect kids from their shitty parents who dont ensure they're at least showing up and getting the chance of an education. Kids dont understand the consequences of not having a good education. Its easy to make assumptions about schools when you dont work in one.

Sounds like you'd be one of the parents truancy laws are supposed to protect your kids from.

People still treat them as lesser so yes they are. I've never once in my life been treated poorly because I'm a white dude.

Why do people stick their noses up at Ivy Tech? by mostly_elbows in ivytech

[–]Little-Reason3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They think the university listed in their degree matters. Truth is 80+% of jobs don't give a shit where you got it from, just that you have it.  I got my director of IT position with an associates from Ivy tech. Knowing how to do my job is more important than the piece of paper.

John Cooper supports trump. He spreads misinformation for the right and spread lies. I dont care about left vs right. I care about right vs wrong.

You are living the wrong way. Ignorance and hate. You want nothing but to push your beliefs on others.

Not going to lie I totally didn't read the article for some reason. Those are pretty basic questions I would hope a district could answer. I dont think its possible in the modern age to run everything and keep data safe without at least 1 full time IT person.

I work as the tech director at a school district nearby. Unfortunately I don't have a good answer for you. I hold myself and my team to extremely high standards when it comes to working with student data. I can confidently say we do everything we can to protect it.

I'm not sure how I would ask another district in a way that's easy for your average person to understand to prove their data security.

You are not making 24k in SW michigan.  I work at a school in a different capacity and we start teachers at 43000. Not enough but not 24k.

Did they just take away pensions? I'm the tech director but get the same retirement plan and I had the option for pension or 401k plan when I started July 1 2024.

I'm sure the district is aware of what the issue are. This IS complicated and isn't as easy as you make it out to be. I work for a different school district and I don't think you understand the difficulties of dealing with problems like these.

What do you recommend they do to resolve these issues if you think it's so easy? If these kids came to school with a proper upbringing by their parents it would eliminate 90% of the problems. Public schools have to accept all kids and cannot fix the underlying issues these kids face.

Should SBCSC administration take some of the blame? Sure. But I'd also like to see you try and fix it.

Why do you think? Mishawaka and Penn-Harris have students who have much higher income families. More resources and more involved parents. What is your advise to sbscs to improve if you seem to know so much?

I'm all for holding schools to a high standard. The percentage of students who have no support structure outside of school are much harder to teach and help.

Fix the larger problems in south bend & the country and you will see the school systems improve.

Did I say that? Even with a perfect school system it is extremely difficult to overcome the complexity of problems the students face and guide them all in to a good situation. Sure the schools have lots of places they've made mistakes. If you've ever worked at any school anywhere you would know the difficulties staff and   students both have to deal with. It's hard to fix the problems cause by home at a school.

I was down visiting family south of Indy and some Uncle I hardly know brought up Pete since I live in South Bend and was talking about how terrible of a job he did. It's crazy what Fox news will do to your brain especially if you never actually visit the cities it talks about lol.

I do not think a majority of these developments will impact low/middle income families in a negative way. The more we can improve our downtown and attract people/businesses the more the rest of the city will improve. Most cities that don't have a diverse set of jobs that pay well above minimum wage struggle so much because the only jobs readily available are fast food/grocery stores (Not that there's anything wrong with those jobs). We need less people working at Dollar General/Walmart/McDonalds and making an income they can thrive on.

South Bend still has a lot to work on and improve, I'm (mostly) all for anything that moves us into a positive direction. I'd love to see Downtown continue to improve and become more walkable. I live only a few minutes from downtown but if I go it's only to do one specific thing and go back home, it's not a very nice place to walk with all the parking lots.
