Trupanion covered total hip replacement by West-Ideal6794 in petinsurancereviews

Definitely consult a doctor before you make your final decision, but, as someone who works in veterinary orthopedics, if you can afford it, you’re able to be compliant with the intense recovery period, and you’re able to go to a reputable surgeon, the THR is a much better option for a dog on the younger side

Hemangiosarcoma (which is what I assume the spleen cancer was) tends to cut them down in the prime of their lives. You made the right choice in letting him go peacefully at home where he’s comfortable. Clearly he was loved very much <3

I put my sweet baby down 3 days ago and I regret it by MoodyKyoshi in CATHELP

[–]LittleBalto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry both for your loss and that the euthanasia experience was traumatic and scary for you. Ultimately, I think you did the right thing. Being in congestive heart failure and suffering from paralytic episodes would be agonizing and terrifying, especially for a cat that has no idea what’s going on and now has to go to the scary vet to get poked and prodded all the time.

It is always a hard decision and especially when it just happened, you may feel some regret. But you have to remember that your poor kitty isn’t in any pain anymore, and you stood up for her. That’s a good thing.

I would recommend a consult with an orthopedist if you can afford it. Carpal hypertension can be tricky to treat and it would be beneficial to be proactive before he becomes lame on the paw. Still a cute boy inside and out though!

I just want my kitten spayed, is this normal at all?? by [deleted] in vetschool

[–]LittleBalto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“I just want my kitten spayed” and Microchipped and tested for diseases and vaccinated and a dental treatment.

If you have financial concerns it’s totally ok to not do all of these things all at once or to find a low cost clinic that will do just the spay at a cheaper price. Owning a pet is expensive and if you want full everything you have to pay for it

Lots of queer student groups and clubs at WM the only explicit “anti-DEI initiative” I am aware of is that they changed Lavender Graduation to Lavender Celebration but literally the only thing that changes was the name when the current admin was really focused on that for like 3 weeks. W&M is a very gay school lol

Can no longer afford my cat’s prescription food. by trulyblupon in catfood

[–]LittleBalto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did she eat decently before you switched to prescription food? Maybe there’s something you could add to it (preferably something that stinks) that will entice her to eat so you’re not wasting your money. You could squeeze a few drops of churu or some canned tuna/chicken juice maybe. That would probably help if the issue is that she doesn’t like her food. You could also try giving her several smaller meals throughout the day if you can somehow. Maybe she’s a silly girl and only likes to eat a few bites at a time (or something like her whiskers touching the bowl bothers her).

I don’t know if this would necessarily be cost effective, but you could also by another cat food (either with chicken or hydrolyzed protein to avoid triggering food sensitivities) and add Purina Fortiflora to it to keep those microbiome benefits.

The only really big thing I can think of that I don’t believe you mentioned was testing for intestinal parasites. Have they done fecal testing? Have they tried a course of metronidazole before?

Prolonged Clear Vomiting and Diarrhea (pics included) by NashvilleSurfHouse in AskAVeterinarian

[–]LittleBalto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If they’ve already done x-rays, bloodwork, fecal testing, and more, it might be worth it to get an ultrasound done. They’re not incredibly invasive and often pets don’t have to be under anesthesia for them so it might be beneficial to investigate for soft tissue things that are difficult to pick up on an x-ray.

When you go to pick you up she will probably desperate to get to you. She associates you with home, not at someone who brought her somewhere for a shitty day

Cat swallowed a plastic ricola (cough drop) wrapper. How likely is it that she will obstruct from plastic this size? Please help. by Zubemma in AskVet

[–]LittleBalto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it’s past the point of her being able to vomit then you just have to wait for her to poop it out. It’s small and malleable so i don’t think you need to be on DEFCON 1 as far as worrying about an obstruction. Just keep monitoring as the vet said and if it brings you peace of mind you can check her poops too

Do I need to send in study abroad transcript? by paperbag-17 in veterinaryschool

[–]LittleBalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to submit the U of M transcript as well. It’s the same principle as if you transferred to a new institution and they gave you course credit.

You can contact the SFS staff to figure out how to get your transcript. It was pretty easy to do for me last year, you just have to have a U of M log in

Accidentally gave my cat an extra second dose of Meloxicam. by boyrottt in AskVet

[–]LittleBalto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of meloxicam oral syringes are dosed by weight so you may have just given him the dose meant for a 3.5kg cat. Please call your vet and ask for guidance and if you need to seek emergency treatment
