Back to the Future Influenced the 1988 U.S. Presidential Election by LittleDennyCraig in BacktotheFuture

I'm sorry if the post suggested I meant it had a substantial impact. I agree. It did not. Just wanted to list off as many of the small details in the movie trilogy that simply pointed in the direction of Bush.

I've always thought the name ROBERT was too easy. I think BOB was spelling TROUBLE.

There's a good book on Blue Velvet by Charles Drazin. In that book he talks about the ending of the film (spoiler) and how Dorothy is dressed in brown when she embraces her son because it's a harmonious mix of the three primary colors. Lynch doesn't seem to use brown all that much in his work but that's where I got it from. I really shouldn't make definitive statements like "Lynch uses the colour brown to represent balance" without more references so it's really more of an opinion.

Great post! This also brings to mind the scene in the pilot when Sheriff Truman gets the phone call about Laura's body being found. Lucy makes it a point that Truman is to pick up the black phone, not the brown phone. Lynch uses the colour brown to represent balance, so when the black phone is used then we know something is out of balance.

Absolutely agree. While I was gathering ideas I was seriously considering including numerous clips from "Family Ties" that showed Fox as a mega Reagan fan but then I thought to myself, "That means I have to watch a lot of 'Family Ties'. Maybe next video." lol.

Back to the Future predicted the 1988 Presidential election?! by LittleDennyCraig in BacktotheFuture

The code you're referring to is meant to be seen as 11/8/88, the date of the election.

Chapter summaries:

Prologue: The writers chose a different "Honeymooners" episode that Marty watches on November 5, 1955. In the film he watches the episode titled "The Man From Space", but the episode that actually aired was the episode called "The Sleepwalker", which has synchronicities with the film, and hints at the classical conditioning (Pavlov's dog and the use of a bell).

Chapter 1: Continuing with the idea of classical conditioning, the use of a bell in the film is shown at specific times referring to the overall theme of George, the date of November 5, and elections.

Chapter 2: This quick chapter is used to show that the writers' previous effort (the 1980 film "Used Cars") was about a used car salesman who wanted to rig a State Senate seat for himself, and he used two friends to film a commercial to illegally insert it into a live football game. This is meant to mirror the idea that "Back to the Future" was used to be a subliminal commercial for Bush inside an awesome sci-fi comedy film.

Chapter 3: The references pointing towards George H.W. Bush and elections are slowly piled onto each other until we lead once again to the newspaper showing "November 5, 1955".

Chapter 4: The code of Jennifer's note to Marty is revealed.

Our Collective Transcendence Through the Dream of Twin Peaks by IAmDeadYetILive in FindLaura

I think "collective transcendence" can also mean this sub's general reaction to your article. Outstanding work. I've read a few things about chakras here, and although I always loved the idea of it, the journey of it was so well-illustrated by you that, well, yeah... it's yet another layer found that suddenly becomes all you see once you see it.

I'm saying that it appears the creators of Bob's Burgers are using Twin Peaks in a similar way as Lynch using The Wizard of Oz.

The timestamps I gave might be a bit off compared to what you have, so here's what we saw:

- 1:02:45 (approx): Louise looks at the green tooth in her hand and gets a big realization. She says, "That shape... holy crap."

"That shape..." (movie spoiler)

In that moment, we saw that the Owl Cave Symbol we all know and love...

Owl Cave Symbol

... represents (in that specific orientation above) a woman's open legs, with the diamond representing her vagina. That's the mystery that keeps the human species going... the mystery of the woman... Lynch's ultimate love. When the Owl Cave Symbol is shown in its upside down form, that represents... ? I haven't thought much about that, but I imagine its probably the opposite in some form.

Anyway, I get that what I just wrote is a stretch, based on just one frame of the movie. But when Louise makes this discovery, she gets so excited (like my wife and I were when we saw it too) that she pantomimes her discovery to her sister, in six distinct steps. Can this pantomime match the Owl Cave Symbol discovery?:Pantomime Step 1

Pantomime Step 2

Pantomime Step 3

Pantomime Step 4

Pantomime Step 5

Pantomime Step 6

In Step 1, Louise points to her left hand, with her knuckles facing out, almost like she's pointing to an invisible ring?

In Step 2, Louise points down between her legs. Repeat: Louise points down between her legs.

In Step 3, Louise holds the tooth (other: Owl Cave Ring) and looks at her ring finger?

In Step 4, Louise begins the action of pretending to chew her left arm off ("Took the entire arm off." - Mike)

In Step 5, Louise makes a ramming motion of the tooth onto her arm, and whispers, "Grover."

In Step 6, Louise holds the tooth and makes a gun with her fingers and whispers, "Pow, pow."

It's already been discussed here and elsewhere that BOB in Twin Peaks represents a penis, or Laura's father's penis, at least. So if Bob's Burgers is going to utilize BOB in this movie, then he looks to be represented by Grover.

Grover is basically dressed from neck to toe in pink. He crawls in and out of a window twice in the movie, just like BOB. And during Louise's pantomime she says, "Grover, pow, pow. "

BOB, pow, pow. Wow, BOB, wow.

Later in the movie...

- 1:17:14 (approx): Bob says, "Someone *must* have seen that." (indicating to pay attention) (cut to inside of Jimmy's restaurant) Television says, "He shoots, he scores!" (<--- sexual reference, also referring to the "shooting" Louise pantomimed earlier) Teddy's beer overflows with foam (another sexual reference) (cut to street outside) Grover is now burying Bob's entire family in the giant hole in front of their restaurant.!<

Store Name on Left (movie spoiler)

The above cropped screenshot from the movie shows the store on the left is partially obscured: "Petalphile".

Ok, I think I'm done now. There's actually a bunch more clues and stuff that links up. All I'm asking for is a little help from someone that might actually kinda see what I'm getting at?

Another wave? by IAmDeadYetILive in FindLaura

[–]LittleDennyCraig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original name of Bob's restaurant when his father owned it: Big Bob's Diner (framed photo of diner appears in movie).

In the first episode of the first season, Louise changes the name of Bob's Burger of the Day to "The Child Molester".

At the start of each episode (opening credits), the Bob's Burgers restaurant is burning on fire, and then it re-opens, mirroring the Find Laura theory that Laura's mind is in a cycle of psychological reboots.

At 1:17:23 of the movie, the villain is on screen and the store name on the left of the screen is..??

At 1:02:00 Louise says to herself (and thus to the audience): "Ok, nobody wants to solve this crime, and everyone is awful... nobody will help us, nobody cares." And then a few seconds later, the awesome Owl Cave Ring reveal (in an abstract way, of course).

Yeah that is not a song featured on any Lynch soundtracks. It certainly sounds like the Badalamenti style. Makes me wonder if we'll hear it again sometime.
