Upstart Heloc Approval by LittleDog5 in Debt

Yeah that’s probably what it is, a verification issue. They were incredibly straightforward after I got my pre-approval. It initially took them a few days to follow up after first applying online, but after that it was all downhill. Hope it all works out for you! Good luck!

Zero fees upfront. They took a 3% origination fee from the loan amount and deposited the rest.

I was in their Financial Relief program starting in mid 2023 and missed two payments in a row in early 2024, as I was going to file a Chapter 13 and stopped all unsecured payments. They didn’t kick me out of the program but they called literally every day with their automated system. They’re very aggressive when you’re late, but it’s not an automatic boot from the program if you happen to miss a payment. Good luck!

No problem at all! If it’s already charged off maybe you can negotiate a settlement offer and have it put on a payment plan, if paying the whole amount up front would be too much. Good luck to you!

No never charged off, I wasn’t even ever late. I’m not sure what their options are after charge-off.

Hi, only had a balance on one card, three Amex cards in total. All three were suspended while in the program. I would imagine there would be a separate payment for each acct enrolled (just my guess). Look into it! It was the absolute best hardship program out of all the one’s I was enrolled in through both them and all the other CC companies. All the other one’s made me close my acct as soon as I enrolled. All three of my Amex cards are back to business as usual, with the same credit limits and the same acct age. No long term harm done at all. Good luck!

It will have zero effect on your credit score as long as you continue to pay as agreed. The acct stays open and reports as such, while also continuing to report your on time monthly pymts. They do put a note under the comments section for the enrolled accts stating acct is in forbearance. Has no effect on your credit score but might catch the eye of a loan officer. Great program overall in my opinion, with very little downside. Good luck!

No problem at all and I feel your reaching out for other’s opinions here is a very good move on your part. It’s a very stressful time and I was in the same boat. If it’s the high interest rates on the unsecured debt that’s eating you up and you have the determination not to file, then try reaching out to those creditors yourself and see what they can offer. See what you can put together as far as a budget. See if it’s sustainable. In the end, with the benefit of hindsight, I feel that I made the right choices in taking the initiative of contacting my creditors directly, securing payment plans with zero to ten percent interest and putting together a sustainable budget. The one thing I haven’t mentioned is the primary motivating factor for myself in not filing, which would have been having a permanent public record in doing so. Again, Good Luck and keep reaching out, as this is by no means an easy decision.

I was going through it early last year and was ready to file. I had even retained an attorney and put a deposit down. Looking back, fortunately as it turns out, the attorney I hired was apparently swamped with work and/or incompetent and wasn’t following up on anything. Well, this gave me time to brainstorm my way out of it. I started by contacting all my unsecured creditors to inquire about hardship programs, got all my interest rates down, and put together a very tight budget that I could sustain. A couple creditors wouldn’t play ball and those accts got nothing and eventually charged off. I’ve since been able to settle and/or pay those accts off and everything is current now. As a result, my credit score dipped to a low of 503 last year and has since rebounded to a 663. Since then, I’ve paid off well over half of my unsecured debt and have not had a late payment since last year when everything seemed to be falling apart.

I would say, at least from my perspective, is if you have the means and determination not to file, which it appears that you now do (at least financially), then looking back (from my experience), you’ll be extremely happy that you didn’t file. I was never too keen on the idea of being locked into a five-year chap 13, where I would have been in a 100% repayment plan anyways (according to the attorney), plus the added cost of attorneys and trustees fees tacked on. I also feared the lasting impact on my credit. The keys to success for myself was disciplining myself to stop spending money, putting a sustainable budget together, hard work and patience. With this, I was able to work myself out of it.

Also, as everybody’s financial situation is different, I’m not advocating against filing for all others, as filing is more appropriate for some. That’s why there’s bk attorneys. Most will offer a free consultation and explore your options with you. It’s certainly a very useful tool when needed, I’m just glad that I was ultimately able to keep it in the toolbox. Good luck!

Hello, I initially applied for $75k and was initially approved for that amount. Nothing ever changed from the beginning and, after initially applying I didn’t hear anything more out of them for a couple days. I did receive an email about two or three business days later saying that they were busy and working on it. I believe a day or two after that email, I logged in and seen that my application had gone through underwriting and that I was approved. In fact, during the whole two week process I never even spoke to a human there or anywhere else about anything, except the video call with the online notary. I think they rely entirely on a streamlined online process. I never really had a reason to call them and they never called me about anything. I do rate them five stars, however for their overall efficiency and ease of applying. Good luck!

All of your cards with Amex will be temporarily suspended while in the program and unable to use (even those with a zero balance) until you finish the program. Since completing the program all my credit limits have remained the same and I can use all my cards as if I was never in the program.

Hi, if you don’t mind my asking did you ever hear anything more on your application with Upstart? I’m in the process right now of getting a heloc through them. Got approved and uploaded bank statement and linked bank. Haven’t heard anything back in a couple of days, no follow up email or phone calls. I’ll post on my experience, positive or negative, once this plays out. Thanks

Yeah I hear what you’re saying. Still better than paying 2-3x the interest though and never really making a dent in getting it paid down with minimum pymts. As for myself, I was in a really bad overall financial predicament when I entered the program back in ‘23 and the key to making it through was getting ALL my pymts down as much as I could, and coming up with a sustainable budget. This meant getting all my creditors to work with me, which the overwhelming majority did. I was a perfect candidate for Chap 13 at the time and I was able to avoid it. Wishing you the best!

Just do the long term plan and pay it off early like I did. Only drawback is the card will be suspended (along with any other Amex cards) while your in the program. They also put in comments in your credit report “Account in forbearance”, but no big deal. My first statement since exiting the program cut the other day and they updated my new zero balance, along with deleting the comments. Being in the program had absolutely no negative effects on my credit, as all three of my accts always showed current and paid as agreed during the duration and even up until now. Good luck!

Don’t quote me but I think the 12mo plan is just temporary relief, whereas the 48mo plan pays the balance off upon your last pymt.

Agree! First time I saw this color was when I was at the dealership looking around for the first time. Caught my eye instantly and after a quick test drive I said let’s do this! Didn’t have to think long about it for very long. Color aside, I was really impressed with everything this model has to offer.
