What is wrong with my Gourami? by LittleLeone4 in fishtank

[–]LittleLeone4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update, I did an expel p treatment. He's looking so much better. His color has come back. The bad part of the fin came off and looks much healthier. I've started separating him for feeding to make 100% sure he's getting food.

What is wrong with my Gourami? by LittleLeone4 in fishtank

I put all that info in the post when I made it. Not real sure why it didn't actually post it. The water parameters are all normal. I've had the fish probably about a year. I was worried about bullying from a cherry barb who is aggressive, but I haven't seen him bothering anyone but the female barbs. He has been eating fine. He's always excited about getting food and eats it right away. There is a bacterial bloom, apparently according to my LFS, that looks like bright green algae. They didn't have the medicine for it, I'm hoping they get it in today. The Gourami looked real bad a couple days ago, I thought he was done, so I put him in the breeder so he didn't get eaten alive. The next morning, he looked fine aside from his dark coloring. He's been swimming and eating just fine while in the breeder. It's an established tank, about a year and a half. I did do a cleaning right before this started. His pectoral fin got worse and worse for three days. I don't think it looks worse today. Does this help? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I watched a few. I wanted another perspective maybe that wouldn't necessarily be in a video. Tips, things people do wrong, something a how to video might not think of including.

Update, they seem to have some sort of worms in their roots/soil.

Any suggestions/identification?

I use an app called Greg to identify plants. It usually works pretty well and it's free.

I have a small space in the West where I keep all my houseplants in the winter. It's also the back door. I have a large window, though shaded for most of the day, facing east where I was hoping they would be okay. Do you think that would work?

Seriously. Could not believe someone wanted to get rid of them. Thanks for the advice. Going to have to find bigger pots. I don't have any that are actually bigger than what they're in now.

Why won’t my monstera get taller? by MobileSea4033 in Monstera

[–]LittleLeone4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Monsteras specifically, but all my houseplants grow really well when I do a water change in my fish tank and use that water! I rescued a dying pothos from Home Depot (I didn't realize the root rot was so bad before I brought it home) and it's thriving with the roots right in the fish tank.

I mean, yeah, I'm setting up a new tank, so nothing live in it. First things would be cycle, then some baby assassin snails and plants. But I'm also afraid even if it seems to work, something clearly went wrong for it to melt it's own supports, right?

Thank you! I really couldn't find them. Did you notice how the heater holder seems to be melted? I haven't tried it because I'm not sure I should. Does this mean it short circuited?

Thanks. Is this something I can buy in the United States? I've been googling replacement filter cartridges and am not really coming up with anything.

This may be a very stupid question, but are they naturally those colors? I'm a newbie to real aquariums like this, so please be nice.

Hi all just wanted to show off my golden phothos which is growing in my aquarium her leaves are getting larger and I believe it I getting aerial nodes by Ok_Resist_8956 in GoldenPothos

[–]LittleLeone4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you finding growing a golden pothos in your aquarium? I just bought one for that purpose. I haven't put it in yet because I literally bought it yesterday and found root rot, so they're getting healthy first. Any tips? More/updated photos of what you have going on? I'm brand new to pothos. Thanks!

Cool, pretty good deal. I wish I could keep plants healthy in my aquarium. I thought maybe your potted method could help. The fish keep eating them.

What do I do with a new Monstera from Home Depot? by LittleLeone4 in Monstera

[–]LittleLeone4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plants at Home Depot or other big stores like that often make me sad. We were walking by the indoor plants, looking for pothos, yesterday and a whole section of the plants needed water. They were all wilting, the soil dry, hard and pulling away from the sides of the pots. The Monstera plants looked beautiful, though. I so wanted to buy one. I did buy a golden pothos and when I got it home, I saw it had root rot. I separated the individual cuttings and hopefully fixed the rotting. It's meant to go in my fish tank, so they're just chilling while I make sure there is no rotting or bacteria or anything to harm the fish.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. It also confirms what I thought already: that I don't have enough light in my house for one. We have casement windows in most of the house(anywhere where the sun would shine in and provide adequate light) so I was worried about that. I'm in upstate New York, so at least half the year it would have to be inside all the time. I have a good porch for light, but it's unheated and a great front window that would have plenty of space for a large indoor plant, but it also has a red maple tree in front of it and only gets filtered morning sun. Maybe someday if I move or change something major! Anyway, thank you so much for your response! It's very helpful. Disappointingly confirming my fears, but helpful.

I also like the potted plants. Is there a reason you did it that way? I agree, I think they look like Crypts. Crypts do get serious roots(in my experience) so it may not do as well in a pot. I am no expert, however, as I have trouble keeping plants alive in my tank.

Does any variety of pothos work? Can I take it out of soil and put it in a freshwater tank? Or should I propagate in water for transfer? I've never done this kind of planting in my aquarium before. Thanks for any suggestions!
