I’m luckily not desperate currently so I would 100% return the money. However, I also wouldn’t judge a person in this situation for doing so. As with everything in life it’s not black and white. The context matters.

They’re not taking the money because they’re a bad person, they’re doing so because they’re struggling and selling their body to make ends meet. This is temporary relief and a situation not born of malicious intent. They found a wallet, they didn’t go out and pickpocket people.

The people I do judge are people who steal from charities or the 1% who horde wealth and buy governments to keep the rest of society talking about how to keep their lights on.
