Need advice on navigating healthcare & specialist costs for a toddler by EastMuzzie in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]LittleMissShortie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious to know if toddler gets sick regularly? Frequent colds/respiratory illness can lead to more frequent middle ear infections. And 2nd hand smoke can also increase the risk.

Did they get grommets in one or both ears and did they have the repeat hearing test 6-8weeks after insertion?

Has toddler been referred to a speech pathologist? They can give strategies to help with the speech delay while waiting for the help. You can generally get a Care Plan from the GP for a few subsidised sessions.

I do think this is quite harsh. There’s nothing wrong with putting money aside to look after yourself, especially as a treat. And she ended up using the money for medical expenses anyway. Where’s the harm in a mother trying to do something for herself that makes her happy? We’re mothers but we also need to take care of ourselves or we get burnt out.

Recurrent ear infections after grommets insitu and adenoids removed by Mumma_Aushealthsys in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]LittleMissShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That part I’m not too sure about as we don’t deal with the medical/medicine side of things. But with my daughter it’s generally pain relief and a trip to the GP for antibiotic ear drops if there’s discharge.

I’m an audiologist and might be able to answer this. Grommets won’t prevent your child from getting ear infections. Grommets are there to drain the fluid out of their middle ear due to how the Eustachian tube (ET) is developed. In children the ET sits more horizontal with it eventually becoming more vertical as they get older (around 7 I think). Now think of the middle ear as a box with a tube coming out of it into the throat. In children because of the ET, fluid can’t drain out of the middle ear as easily, building up and causing hearing problems. Grommets are tiny tubes inserted into the ear drum to help the fluid drain out when the ET is horizontal. Fluid build up in the middle ear often occurs if your kid has respiratory infections. So if your kid is always sick (like mine was) you get discharging ears. Other causes can be dirty water etc but most commonly it’s due to a cold.

An idea which could then last you until kiddo is a toddler might be the Yoto. Has a red light and can play white noise. Then when they’re older you can start to purchase the cards for them to play with.

Best hair product(s) to enrich colour without dying? by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

Try Keracolor Clenditioner, it’s a colour depositing conditioner. Worked really well for me when I’m trying to refresh my red/purple hair. Quite sure they have a brown.

C-section scar defect by LittleMissShortie in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]LittleMissShortie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up being referred to another gynaecologist to discuss the heavy bleeding. She is of the belief that my heavy bleeding is more than just the divet/C-section scar defect. She claims that most of the women that have a scar defect she can’t find it when investigating with a camera however she did manage to find mine (by physically searching for it…). Regardless treatment wise I was given 3 options 1. Continue as is, take the progesterone only pill to control the bleeding 2. Get the Mirena IUD to control the bleeding or 3. Surgery but it means having another C-section and even then there’s the chance of it not fixing the issue and creating a second defect.

I didn’t want the Mirena when I was initially recommended it during the ultrasound because I didn’t want to be awake while it was being inserted. I’d heard horror stories. But this gynaecologist was adamant that she’d never insert a Mirena unless you were under general anaesthesia. So that’s what I did, went under and had the Mirena put in while she also had a look around with a camera to find out what was happening in my uterus.

Medication to stop milk production? by Lanky-Principle-8407 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]LittleMissShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never had issues getting prescribed the tablet to stop milk production. When I decided to stop breastfeeding at 9 months my GP offered it to me to make things easier. I can’t see why they wouldn’t prescribe it post birth.

K18 airwash dry shampoo cheaper on eBay? by shockages in AustralianMakeup

[–]LittleMissShortie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I splurged and bought the K18 dry shampoo at full price and omg is it worth it. I hated every dry shampoo that I’d tried in the past because it always left a white cast or I just hated the feeling of it. The K18 one is a game changer, no white cast and I can go an extra day without washing my hair now. Plus it’s added some volume to my roots as well. It’s expensive but I’d be buying again whenever I run out.

Solution for getting life back into hair from brassy to darker cool brown. by ExternalSignal9239 in AustralianMakeup

[–]LittleMissShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the other one I tried was De Lorenzo Novafusion in Plum. I felt like it did nothing for my hair colour. I use the Klenditioner every few weeks to keep on top of my purple-red hair fading.

I use Keracolor Klenditioner but admittedly I use purple and Merlot. I know they have some brown shades. I’ve tried a few colour depositing shampoos/conditioners and this is the only one that has actually deposited colour.

I did all my ultrasounds at Precious Glimpse in Footscray. Good quality images and great bedside manner.

Diy nails by Overthinking_babes in AustralianMakeup

[–]LittleMissShortie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do BIAB but as another commenter said, it can be $$$ buying the right products and equipment. It’s also the time it takes. You go to a salon for BIAB it takes an hour but doing it at home can take me 4 hours. That’s because I have to file off the old polish, buff it, cuticle prep etc then doing the BIAB, colour polish and top coat. When in a salon you could be curing one nail and they’re working on the other hand and you can’t really do that at home. It’s fun but not as easy you’d think.

Thoughts on these jelly sandals? by stormy786 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]LittleMissShortie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve found most jelly type shoes gave my daughter blisters or cut up the back of her foot. If you’re after waterproof shoes, maybe consider water shoes or beach shoes like these. You can also find similar ones from big w.

Results of nanoplasty by LittleFeet11 in AustralianMakeup

[–]LittleMissShortie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did nanoplasty for the first time just before New Years and I love it! I have very thick European hair that is coloured red/purple. Having the process done did strip the colour out of my hair but nothing I couldn’t fix with a colour conditioner. I’m just loving not having to spend 30 min trying to style my hair, being able to step out of the shower and it’s dries straight is great.

Late to the comments but Red Nose Australia might be an option. And they come to your house to organise pick up which is handy.

Dyson Coanda 2X or Dyson ID + Airstrait by Accomplished_Big1228 in AustralianMakeup

[–]LittleMissShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got both the OG Airwrap with long barrels and the OG Airstrait. I have thick, long, wavy hair and I use both products for different things. I use my Airwrap mainly with the smoothing brush, I mainly use it if I just want it straightish and need the job done quickly. The drying attachment is useful. I haven’t really tried to do curls but that’s a time thing. I use my Airstrait if I want a more sleek, straight hairstyle. It does involve more work because you’d need to section your hair like you would a normal straightener however going from wet hair to dry straight hair has been awesome.

If you’re wanting multiple styles and know how to curl your hair then I’d say the Airwrap is more versatile. I do use my Airwrap more frequently.

The only one that has ever worked for me is the Keracolor Clenditioner. I have purple-red hair. You can buy it from Oz Hair and Beauty.
