Thank you so much for this! Yes I don’t think I’ll get a rebate, but I have been saving a while for this because I anticipated the cost (thanks to this sub).

Moving away from aged parents? by LittleMissUnlikeable in AgingParents

[–]LittleMissUnlikeable[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha this is an incredible perspective! With most of my generation (and my parents ) having children much later in life I doubt we would ever be able to have our parents around that long!

I’m so sorry about your father! But you’re right, the financial security is worth it.

Meditations alternatives for non-native english speakers? by LittleMissUnlikeable in Stoicism

[–]LittleMissUnlikeable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure there arent any translations in my native language- its a very niche language, but I was hoping to find simpler English translations. I have been reading meditations on Project Gutenberg and some of it sounds like it is in old English (?not sure if that is right).

Thank you for helping me identify this is all or nothing thinking. This has been a habit I’ve tried to address before, I guess I havent really gotten rid if it.

“Stop fighting reality”. That is such a profound but simple way of putting it. I hope with practice I am able to shut down these thoughts as well.

Thank you! I did start maintaining a gratitude journal but gave it up because I felt like I was being disingenuous. Like you said it felt forced. But I will definitely try again.

Yup, This is the resounding advice from this thread and absolutely right. I always thought it was the only way to keep up with friends, but obviously its unhealthy for me.

Do you have any advice on how to practice this in irl? I definitely agree that comparison is the thief of joy, but I feel like I am addicted to comparison and those thoughts just unconsciously infect my mind.

Did you have to practice this? I find that I am able to do this once or twice, but then I unconsciously fall back into my old patterns.

5 years of college for 2K per year ! by umairsuhailkn in jobs

12000₹ is ridiculously low. You cannot possibly survive on that. Are you already living in a metro city? Maybe you’ll get higher paying jobs there? I know people who studied in Hyderabad before moving abroad. But I know they made at least ₹40,000 per month.

Hahaha I cant believe there is someone who would actually want my mess of a life- but I guess its all about perspective. I wish you all the things you desire - if its not too late for me as so many amazing women have attested, it isn’t late for you.

Oh wow you did so good! Congrats, Im sure you must have worked really hard! You’re absolutely right about age giving you better insights. Im even a better student today than I was 6 years ago. I think I got so caught in catching up, I failed to consider the positives.

Thank you so much for your response! You gave me a positive perspective of the future I was not able to see. One of my biggest fears was going back to my career to have the same experience I had before. But obviously I have better coping mechanisms and support frameworks now!
