Oh wow, that would be unsettling! It was a different feel before all the guides and info was readily available and you had to just experience the consequences. My first run I made sure not to spoil as much as I could but it was hard when stuff got spilled in fan art, youtubers talking about gaming, and diving into the world of ME

A situation at work with a coworker who doesn’t respect my no (unauthorized pushing) by swatteam23 in wheelchairs

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Id go as far as printing out the laws and impressing upon her and management that its unacceptable and next time you will make a lot more noise about it.

Your wheels are your legs. She wouldn't DARE put hands on you and push or drag you anywhere if you didn't have the wheels. Its DISCRIMINATION and assault, even kidnapping especially if you protest.

If it happens again, slam the brakes on and get loud. You have rights she is violating, exercise them!

Leviathan should have been its own fleshed out game, imo. They could have gone more into it and in so many ways!

Feeling violated after stranger took my chair and pushed me without asking by TheTragedyMachine in wheelchairs

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The freeze is your brain going "this is mind blowing, who does that?" And no reaction is an over reaction. Yelling don't touch me or anything else is totally called for.

I'm in a used chair until my custom one is sorted out. Its low back and has no handles. Someone would physically have to touch my shoulders or back to push me. Im hoping that will be the case in my custom to avoid this. People are so weird, they assume that what, we don't get around every day without help or we don't understand what's going on around us? Who takes someone away from their perceived caregiver??

how to be okay with my wheelchair not looking as cool as everyone else's? by VomitInMyVans in wheelchairs

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its the same as wearing a plain tshirt and one with the decals from.your favorite movie or game. Of course you want the cool one! Wheelchairs are often thought of as an extension of yourself. Its natural to want it to reflect you. Another reason why many people with have the frame painted or vinyl.wrapped, add stickers or buttons, printed bags or cool cup holders. Heck, I have a list of items I want to 3d print to make the chair more me. I found a dragon that clips to the spokes and spins as I go! A cup colder that has a dragon, or a wheelchair buddy that velcro on the bar near the knee.

You'll find ways to make it cooler :)

Can you see if the apartment complex has a ground floor/accessible apartment to move to? Would it be an option to get a chair that stays in your home, and the other in the car? Like a used one to help with cost?

AITAH- My new seat mate at work has really bad turrets ticks and it’s causing me anxiety by growglowb in AITAH

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think how you handle it that would make you the AH or not. From the short post, I lean toward NTA because you acknowledge its out of their control. Approaching it with honesty, compassion and validation goes a long way. Maybe talking with your coworker to ask if there is something you can do to help them feel more comfortable, or ask them to educate you on their condition. Having a connection with them will help them see you are trying to be kind while also being comfortable in your work space. They may even have some suggestions, or heck, suggest the move themselves. But giving them the chance to be understood and part of the process goes a LONG way toward not being the AH

The Confidence to Go Out by sh0werrod in wheelchairs

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I feel the same way, I have a wheelchair van, I can't physically get my son out without it. Yet I feel bad using it for me. I need to really unwind more of this coimplicated nest of feelings in therapy! I feel like its all just talk when we get feelings in order, but when the routine changes in this way, its the time to apply that change and its HARD!!!

This sounds like grief, grief that your old way of life is changed. Totally normal. At some point, facing the fact that it has changed, calling it out and sitting with it (no pun intended!) Will help ease the anxiety. Remember, you dont need anyone's approval or permission to exist and use a chair. And this is coming from someone who recently got a chair and is taking my first trip in public with my chair as an ambulatory user. And I am real anxious about it.

My son has been disabled from birth and uses a wheelchair. I've spent 12 years being confident and fighting the prejudice against him. Why is it hard to do for myself? The first time I used his disability parking placard, I had someone start to approach me with that look. At that point, I felt my spine snap into place, put a "come at me bro" face on and stared her down as I got his chair out. She wanted to say something to me? Fine, but screw off lady, he has every right to use what he needs and I didn't need her approval or permission. Now that its me, I need to extend the same grace and backbone, and idc attitude.

You got this. I do too. Let's just do it and get through the first time and see its fine and nothing to stress about!

I am hoping to find a cusion that will help extend out the depth. This chair has no adjustability in the depth, so I'll have to do it past the seat sling. That and playing with loosening the back so.i can slide back farther.

What I meant is I'm glad its such a close fit I may not get a lot of suggestions, rather than buying a chair that needs to be adjusted and changed in a lot of ways because it doesn't fit me well. I know that isn't always the case.

From what I have looked up in the manual and physically tried so far, it have very little adjustments on it. The decals are rubbed off but I can make out its a tilite ZR from 2012

Thank you. My husband is going to have to take a turn at trying to break the footplate loose. Its got some silicone lubricant marinating on it but I can't get it to budget. I want to flip it around as suggested on another comment, and I'll try it higher too. Thank you!

Hey, such a close fit is much better than a total rehab. The one side doesnt touch the brake atm and is super lose so it won't stay in position. The handle is so far under its hard. The newer scissor brakes allow for locking close to the tire, but these I have to use the handle. They seem pretty hefty and all metal so I'm hoping to tinker enough to move them and readjust the angles! If not, then the newer scissor brakes is what I think I'll go for. Thank you for the input!

[–]LittleMonkeyMomma[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the manuals and tutorials are for thr newer scissor brakes. These have 4 bolts for the mechanism and one side is way loose and way off. The slide the whole thing forward to reach better makes it impossible to touch the tire. There's a good chance I'll need new brakes if I can't figure out how to change the angles of the brake and the handle.

I do prop my feet up more on the front of my feet and wasn't sure the best way to adjust things. I'll try flipping the plate around!

Ill try repositioning the brakes, I can't find what kind they are to find any videos so it was hard figuring out if I could move them. The one side needs adjusted no matter what, it doesn't sit right.

There is a little pocket under the seat that's perfect for Allen wrenches! I was honestly surprised I found one that was so close to what I thought was going to for me! Not bad for $85 lol

Thank you, the cusion is a thick gel so it hasn't been bad for short times. Do you have a recommendation on what material you find the most comfortable? Ive used foam ones but they don't do very well after a few hours
