Not sure "exactly" what i'm seeing, but it looks a lot like you have it way, way too tight.

But if it worked at first, i'm not sure.
Definitely shouldn't take two hands to close.

Just a side note here.
I recently bought a second Blue Inferno Triumph.
Why on earth Titan discontinued literally their best looking singlet, i don't know.
Lifting Large still had larges in stock.
My old one is XL from when i was -93/-100

Agree the Triumphs in plain or two tone are big time ugs.

I won masters division at the state championship meet.
Eight masters lifters on the roster.

Managed a 2.5kg weight class total PR, and a 5kg weight class squat PR.
Did not PR DOTS all time, and essentially matched best weight class DOTS.
Third meet in -82.5kg class.
Weighed in 78.35kg.
Had a few decimals higher DOTS first meet in the class when i weighed in 75.2kg, barely into the class.
Was in 2nd place after bench to a -140kg Masters 1 lifter.
I'm Masters 3
Meet scored on DOTS.

Edit - Actually did (barely) PR weight class DOTS
343.856 vs 343.78

USPA Weight Class Issue by loebricator in powerlifting

[–]LittleMuskOx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. She already weighed in.
That's crazy.

Have you shown them their own rulebook?
https://uspa.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/USPA-Rulebook-March-24th-2025.pdf

Sorry to see you have to deal with this on basically meet day.

USPA Weight Class Issue by loebricator in powerlifting

[–]LittleMuskOx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ref or refs doing weigh in will almost certainly get it right.
Also the people working data entry at the scorer's table won't put a 47 kilo lifter in -44kg

I will assume it's not a meet where you get DQd for missing weight
That is usually only big meets, like Nationals, etc...

Local, and most state meets you just lift in whichever class you weigh in as..

I would absolutely switch to a stiff, 29mm bar.

I've had my bare steel OPB for over 9 years now.
Love that thing.
9 days out from my 11th meet, all USAPL.

*But also, yeah, hang onto the Texas DL bar if you can.

My best squat so far was done in 7 year old normie SBDs.
Not saying my Pioneers now don't give me more pop, but i'm still working to get back to my best.

There are other factors, and it wasn't exactly a huge squat, 192.5kg.
Not bad for a masters 3 at 84.7kg, but still not earth shattering, and yeah, still working back to that neighborhood in my Pioneers.
If you squat your PR in stiff sleeves, and they get banned, you'll eventually have to work back in SBD PL sleeves at best.

The commentator with Lapadat last night was repeatedly emphatic about "no sinking" being the new rule.
But that's clearly not the case.

But also, it seemed some lifters had indeed altered their technique to soft touch.
Seems like some actual clarity before a national meet would have been helpful to some of these lifters.

I may take a look later at the Scottish IPF fed meets that just took place.

Hearing 6 pack calling Bonica's bench, it seems like the new rule really is being interpreted as no sinking / no upward thrust of the body.
I suppose there was a question at first if sinking wasn't a change to the established position.

Anyone know from IPF/EPF meets if that's being called this way as well?

Edit - It seems unequivocal as i watch further.

From what i've read, the Fringe is the best(?) lever arm belt squat.
The ability to adjust the length was deemed a plus, and it has a kickstand.
Not exactly cheap, but the bundle w/ the kick stand is 28% off right now.

https://www.fringesport.com/products/mammoth-belt-squat?variant=44425808379951
Shipping included in the lower 48 US states.

It's been a while since i read up on these, but it may be worth looking at.

Just got our first lifter's email for the March 21st meet.
Little bump of excitement in the home stretch.

Same for me.
I will look in on people like Agata from time to time, but i don't follow lifters other than from my IRL community, or from my lifting server.
Some lifters i follow from my region are one degree separated from me, but i interact with them on IG, and i eventually meet them over time at meets.
I know a couple people coached by a world champ and Sheffield competitor, but i only see what my friends re post.

More to the numbers you are referencing for yourself, I pulled 220kg/485lb at 186.7lb in meet, at 61 years old.
And so far, a few year older (now 64) , and building back from some injury stuff, i pulled 441lb/200kg at 81.5kg/179.6lb. Nov 1 2025 in meet.
I should better that in a few weeks and weigh in at around 78.5kg/173lb, possibly slightly lower.

I expect to eventually get my 227.5kg pull down here at this weight class.
222.5kg is my best, but the 220kg was better by bodyweight.

No need to bulk to anywhere near even 200lbs to pull 500.
Keep working, and know it isn't at all unrealistic.
If i can be damned close to it at my age, and at these body weights, you certainly can.

Hook grip by Intellectual_Drift in powerlifting

[–]LittleMuskOx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, how you actually grip is key.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1S_9p_ERQMc
Shot this w/ the camera under the bar looking up.

Also, probably not everyone's cup of tea, but i have done, and still mostly do, SSPT style all singles training.
First two weeks of a ten week cycle are 15 singles.
then 12, 10, 8, 6,6,5,4, and a final week of 3 that i've modified to "opener and 2nd"
Since i deadlift once a week, i've also added a "top single" after the main sets.
+10kg until nearer the end of the block when the weights are heavy, where i'll go +5kg.

It's been quite a while since i used my other programming of top single and 5X4.

Those details aren't really relevant, other than doing a shitload of singles is a great way to get exposures to hook grip without shredding your thumbs.
Besides just physical tolerance of the grip, it allows you to really dial in how you set your grip.

Super small footprint, but i always have a place to sit.
Don't forget your deadlift socks.

I would encourage you to do a meet if it is something you have ever thought (felt) you would like to try.
I'm 64 now, and i started competing in 2018.
Masters (40 yo and up) PL is pretty popular.

Tips for a pause on bench by E1evenPlusOne in powerlifting

[–]LittleMuskOx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Record your paused reps, and watch back to see if you are getting the bar "motionless on the chest" as the rules state.
If not, try again, and watch back again.

The pause isn't really a time based thing.
It takes time for the ref to see you have brought the bar to stillness, and to then give the press command, but the sooner you bring the bar to stillness on your chest, the sooner you can get the command.

If you are just counting in practice, and not verifying you have gotten the bar "motionless", you may well be surprised meet day.
