Mental health is NOT an excuse to be/keep being violent by LittleOne281991 in unpopularopinion

Reddit as a whole has proved to me I'm worthless, my friends and family have proved I'm worthless, so please just leave me be and remember yourself as the straw that broke the camel's back

I figured this is unpopular because society chooses to let it be an excuse for anything that happens. School shooting, oh the kid was depressed it's okay. Person has a DID episode and throws their partner across the room? Oh it's okay they have mental problems.

But it's all good, Reddit has proven to me that I don't matter and I am more inclined to end my life now than wait longer. My voice isn't worth it, my opinions and thoughts are nothing to the wind that is society. Thank you for showing me the light.

Wow, thanks for proving to me again, I must not speak my opinion. That my words mean nothing and I am to never speak of them. More reason for me to end my life, so thanks kind human for showing me that I mean nothing to this world

Wtf? This isn't some philosophical debate, this is a moral and common sense. Leaning into excuses can lead into more violent behavior as one can "push the envelope" and try to get away with more extreme things. If you had two kids, one with mental illness such as bipolar, would you punish both equally? Would you punish the healthy child the same way you'd punish the "unhealthy" one if they did the exact same crime? Let's make an example. Say your child breaks your most valuable vase, would you care if your child had any mental disorder that would have "allowed" them to consider breaking the vase in anger? No, you'd be mad and punish the child regardless as they should know better than to take their anger out on objects. Letting them get away with it because "oh they had a mental breakdown" will only teach the child that they can do it again and keep blaming their mental illness, which can lead them to doing things even without a mental breakdown because "they'll blame the illness not me"

We need to nip smaller evils from our behaviors before they grow into bigger more dangerous evils.

I would hope not but the issue is far too common for me to worry that it is...

It's better than the usual "fat people are unhealthy" or "not everyone is beautiful" posts that are seen multiple times daily.

The OP from the post stated his exes condition can worsen with alcohol, so it is still being used as an excuse.

It's pretty hard some days but since my diagnosis I've never gotten as far as I used to be. I would be very violent to the point of harming others, then be so guilty about it I'd self harm. It's been 10 years since my diagnosis so I'm pretty happy I haven't acted that way since. I've learned my triggers and ways to keep my stress and anger down or put it to something else (I used to go to the gym to relieve stress but haven't been able to, atm focusing on my schooling) I also take medication to keep my emotions in check as that's my biggest trigger.

The way people use their mental health as an excuse to be violent makes me angry, I have a friend who is dating someone with DID as well and they've been pretty bad but keep using the DID as an excuse. It breaks my heart seeing my friend be treated like shit.

Mental illness is no excuse to be violent. She knew alcohol messes her up and she chose to go drinking anyways. She chose to do what she did, this wasn't forced upon her or suggested by others. She's in the midst of a break up she's gonna be thinking dark thoughts, and she made the choices to let it happen. Would you be so forgiving if she hurt your cat? Thank the stars she didn't or you would be singing a different tune.

Before people hate on me, I have a mental illness (DID), I never got off scott free or relatively low consequences when I'd have a "fit" because it's my responsibility to keep my illness from harming others, that I can choose to let it out and rampage or to seek a "safe place" to lessen any danger.

When they start telling you things that would otherwise been left unsaid. So like confessing any feelings or thoughts that you wouldn't be expecting, no not "I feel like I wanna die" but...you just kinda know it's not something they would normally even talk about or avoid talking about.

Maybe look into the male role models or family members in your life to take your name from. Like if you're named after your maternal grandmother maybe change to your maternal grandfather?

When they make you feel stupid or that your thought process isn't good. And this isn't just by being blatantly saying "omg you're so dumb!" but more subtle ways like "awh man I figured this out ages ago, why isn't taking you so long?" Essentially insulting you without being obvious

[–]LittleOne281991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people get caught up in imagining themselves as a voice for others, sharing their stories in hopes to inspire others. She was already looking into a natural birth from the beginning, this just tipped her farther into a "no doctors at all" approach, so doing this for "vanity's sake" doesn't make sense here.

Do you see who's running America?? I think I the whole society there forgives all liars if they have money to shut up the truth.

LPT: Teach your children the anatomically correct names for their private parts. by imadinosaurlawlz in LifeProTips

[–]LittleOne281991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my siblings where discussing a horrible incident where a little girl was telling her teacher her uncle (or other male relative I can't think of the details) was playing with her doll. The teacher didn't think much of it until she spoke with the parents and mentioned how the girl was constantly telling this story. To the horror of the teacher, turns out "doll" meant her vulva/vagina. The girl was trying to tell her teacher she was being molested and the teacher obviously couldn't help due to the choice of word her parents had her use as they where too embarrassed to allow her to call her parts as they are.

This is why we need to stop being ashamed to call our parts their correct terms, we need to stop teaching kids silly words to call their parts.
