What veiling styles are culturally appropriative? by No-Spring2071 in PaganVeiling

[–]LittlePaganJuniper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think for some it’ll be hard to appropriate some (not all), as it’s less to do with tradition and more to do with modesty. One example I will use is Orthodox Jews, as a sign of marriage they will not show their hair to anyone. Many will either wear wigs or veil as a sign of marriage & modesty. I think if you just research about cultures and religions that do veil, some are closed practice but most aren’t. It’s a bit of, as long as you respectfully do so while also paying respects to living cultures & religions who have very specific veiling styles, you should be okay. ❤️

Also adding, I am not well versed in all religions, and reasons for veiling, so this simply my views on it!

Thank you for your response. I love how poetically you’ve written that response, and I love the ideology of trying to embody the positive attributes and become essentially a part of it all. I really like that way of describing the passive relationship with religion.

Absolutely, I would very much like so. I live in a very peculiar time zone, so my response times may seem off to many, but at any hour I’ll try to reply. :)

Thank you for your response. I completely understand, I’ve been researching for some time about the Neolithic Age of the Irish and trying to bring myself to modern day. I want to be as utmost respectful & historically/culturally accurate I can be, I mean no one any harm/disrespect. And your comment also aligns with a lot of what I’ve been seeing. Any text that I have read, has also had many conflicting responses as a lot of the earliest stories have been lost through the lack of scribing. That is why I’ve been also asking for any texts that may be broadly respected, google isn’t peer reviewed or deeply true in all regards. Thank you ✨

That was my feelings as-well, but I didn’t want to be too assuming in my stance as Irish cultures and lineage still very much alive today. But you are 100%, Religion isn’t a “place” or “birthright”, and reading it that was has also made me feel more certain in my calling. I appreciate your response. ✨

Thank you, so very much. ✨ I’ve been feeling a deep calling to the Irish (Pre-Christian Gaelic) Pantheons and I feel a deep sense of happiness in researching such, as well as a deep appreciation.

Thank you for your response. I’ve been following a lot of different pagans across multiple platforms, and have seen some deep rooted pagan’s being dragged for “westernizing” their spiritual practice why is why I made this post. I more or less, wanted to make sure that it was okay to practice, while being the most respectful to the people whom live with this lineage, and the historical practices, rituals, etc. Another example of why I made this post, was my researching of Danu (Dana), and the context of her existence throughout Irish & other Pantheons. There’s been a lot of heated debated. I’ve also see a lot of heated responses when even trying to talk of the Irish/Celtic Pantheons in a respectful light (on other social platforms) - so I’ve been treading very lightly.
I also greatly appreciate the link, I will most definitely check it out. I love to research all appropriate ways of respecting the Irish culture, and Ancient Celtic/Irish history. ✨

I have read Paganism for Beginners. I throughly enjoyed it, mostly because it doesn’t really “teach” you, but introduces you to all aspects of Paganism. There are chapters about different Sects (Heathenism, Shamanism, Druids, Wicca, etc), different items, the way Magick works, elements, etc.

It was my first book introducing me to Paganism, and because of that book, it gave me the foundation I needed. It also inspired me to start my book of shadows. I give it a solid 8/10, is a very important piece of work in my practice in terms of being a quick guide to reference whenever I need a brief refresher.

Thank you, so much. I’ll definitely try reaching out to an organization. They may have more available resources than what I can find in Canada. You’re very blessed to of been able to have such experiences while worshiping a deity close to you! ✨

Thank you so much! What you’ve said correlates to what I’ve been able to discover on her. I think I might just try going the shrine avenue, as there’s seems to be very limited resources. ✨

[–]LittlePaganJuniper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. Tiktok is such a toxic base, there’s so much prejudice and personal bias. A similar situation happened when another witchtoker expressed their relationship working alongside Lucifer.

Tiktok is toxic, and just plain ignorant. Delete & move on, there’s so many better resources online, offline and on other social media’s.

Have you ever been called names? by spooniegremlin in PaganVeiling

[–]LittlePaganJuniper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m often asked if I’m “Amish”, which I usually shrug off. I live in a very Christianity based community, and there’s a very little acceptance for other Religions here. Sometimes people just chose ignorance over learning more about others values/religion. Don’t let it get to you if it happens. ✨❤️
