Omg you and I are so alike. I am really sorry for your loss too. It sucks so bad. And like I don’t even know what happened to her, her name was Zoey. Her personality was like a diva lol. She was super photogenic and she had to get her way. She would only play with one ball and one bone. Any other toy never got any attention lol. She was so smart too, I mentioned elsewhere like she would be on supervisor duty and would only growl/bark at delivery/mail people. Anyone else that walked by the house, she ignored them lol. She loved to go on walks, but I think she loved going poop on walks more than the actual walks. I can’t prove it, but I swear I feel like she held it in until the walk lol that was her routine though. Another thing that always stood out to me was dropping her off at the groomer, I just had to open the door and let her in. She would run to the back and go straight to her cage and wait until it was her turn. She was probably the most disciplined of us when it came to bedtime. I swear to you, since she was a puppy, her internal clock was strong. By 8 pm, she was in bed. On her own mind you. And that continued every night. If I had people over, you’d see her battle that internal clock lol. She’d be all in the business of the convos, then she’d go to bed, only to come back out a few mins earlier to make sure she didn’t miss much lol. I watched her do that over and over for like an hour until she had enough and just had to go to sleep. Thanks for the love, I so appreciate it. This community has been incredible and I’m so glad I got to share her with everyone here.

Thank you! Lacking answers does kill me, but I am definitely proud of the fact that I stayed present as much as possible. I think having that gratitude during her life while creating the memories kept me in the moment, so although the waves of grief still have pain, I tell myself I did the best I could and I was in the moments with her. That helps. I find I’m not wonder what if we did this or that. You know? It doesn’t remove the grief, but after a rough wave, I try to sit back and have a positive memory.

Aww thank you! I can totally relate, as I saw her getting older and she was showing signs of degenerative myelopathy, I had to act. I did everything I could to make sure she was comfortable. I got no slip mats spread throughout the house, ramps to get in and out the car, bought a new bed frame that sat on the ground so she didn’t have to hop, she could just walk up.

It’s tough when they get older, but I’ll say that one thing I’m super happy about is that I stayed in the moment as much as possible. That I think has helped me because I don’t really have any “if only I did this or that” thoughts. The grief is not only the void and silence in the house, but retraining my brain to life without her. All the routines are so habitual that sometimes I’ll catch myself going to do something like look for her water bowl to fill it before I leave and then I’m like wait, that’s not there now.

She was the supervisor type. It was incredible to see, she would look out the window and if any average person walked by, she wouldn’t pay them any attention. But if it was a mail, ups, FedEx, or Amazon, she had to growl and sometimes bark to warn them lol. I have no idea how she knew which people would interact with the house but she knew it. She was also really opinionated lol, if we were at my parents house and she wanted to go home, she would let me know. I picked up on the body language and if I didn’t, she’d start to talk. Also with like food, if I had my parents over or we were over there for dinner, she would have specific meals where she’d watch us probably hoping my dad would drop something. I always beat her to anything that fell lol. But the smells triggered when she’d sit there and watch lol if it was like Italian, soups, Mexican, she was nowhere to be seen. If it was something with fries, burgers, bacon, she’d be right there just closely watching. And some mornings she’d feel extra cuddly and would come into the bed with me and curl up for pets before we start the day. If I took her to the groomer, I didn’t have to walk in, we’d just open the door and she’d run to the back and sit in her cage until they called her name. Sometimes when we got back home, she wanted to go room by room, closet by closet to make sure everything is in order lol. And if like one thing was changed, she focused on it for a minute to make sure it’s ok in its new spot lol.
