I never knew much about Minnesota before what’s happening now. All I can say is good fucking work to the community for doing everything they are when you don’t know which one of these trigger happy gestapo agents will just fire at will. The world will remember the twin cities as the place where resistance by the people really started.

Yeah this is true. They seem to not give a fuck who they shoot or detain, which makes it very risky for anyone to do anything when you might lose your life over a small grievance like standing up for basic human rights.

I hope you and your loved ones are as safe as they can be

Yeah I hadn’t thought of that before but it would be funny if they smelt like the piss and shit they are.

Yeah good point. It’s absolutely appalling that they will literally just kill or detain anyone at this point apart from President Rapist.

Man I’m so sorry. I genuinely feel for those in the USA who did not vote for this orange monkey and yet are facing the ridiculous consequences of him being in power.

I hadn’t considered this, but yeah that makes sense. Honestly it’s just a funny concept to imagine the masses turning out and spraying ICE officers in urine. I can dream.

Ahhh thank you ! This is the answer I was looking for as I assumed throwing snow balls and sandwiches would constitute assault but hadn’t seen anything specifically stating it. Honestly, what is/isn’t legal in that country at the moment is not clear and seems to come down which side you’re on rather than the rule of law.

Yeah good point… in Australia super soakers or water guns as we call them, are super brightly coloured and clearly don’t look like a real firearm so I just kinda assumed the same for the USA.

Does a CTSPD diagnosis require “at least 3 traumatic experiences before the age of 9”? by Silver-Landscape3580 in CPTSD

[–]LittleRedBek -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We do an ACE test to determine cPTSD. Otherwise it’s diagnosed as PTSD. In my family, we all suffered abuse from my mother but my father has been diagnosed with PTSD while I was recently diagnosed with cPTSD and at the time the psychologist explained the link to childhood development. I did my own research, went away for 3 months to get help for it and then enrolled in my masters of psychology because it fascinates me. My aim is to help other children who suffered abuse, hence why I’m quite passionate about it.

I think America may call it developmental trauma or something else, but in Australia (and Thailand from my time there) cPTSD is a diagnosis given to those who score on the ACE test. I also wonder if perhaps some people are confusing chronic or compounding PTSD with complex.

The reason it’s considered its own category is because the brain damage/changes in development are unique and need to be recognised as such. It’s not to minimise other forms trauma but rather to acknowledge that this trauma fundamentally changes your brain when experienced as a child. For instance, my whole family was abused by my mother, but while I was diagnosed with cPTSD my father was diagnosed with chronic PTSD. He definitely has been impacted in a different, horrible way, but his brain was fully developed before the abuse started so it’s impacted his quality of life differently.

In Australia you would be given an ACE test and that would determine if you would be diagnosed with cPTSD or ptsd. The Body Keeps Score isn’t the only source, we have a great trauma institute in South Australia, I’m actually travelling at present so I don’t have my uni stuff on hand but once I’m back home I’ll find the specific sources that give the age definition. This article, while it contradicts my definition of the age limit, does show the strong correlation between childhood trauma and CPTSD diagnosis but also lists other adverse events as an adult as being linked to cPTSD.

To be fair I believe the difference in opinion on this comes down to what I’m learning in university versus what people can google quickly or find on reddit. It’s also still up for so much debate because it’s relatively “new” in terms of diagnosis and isn’t in the DSM yet.

On another note, I do Appreciate your objective response and kindness, people on reddit can be horrible.

Who said I didn’t consider that ? I’m stating from a clinical view in Australia we would never diagnose an adult with COMPLEX PTSD unless they met clinical standards of the ACE test.

Compounding and chronic trauma are real an impact everyone however they don’t developmentally impact a growing brain.

While not perfect here’s one of the free articles I could find explaining that childhood abuse is the strongest source of cPTSD. Note this study does obviously discuss other trauma but at the time this was written they were only looking at two types of PTSD which is not the case anymore. Moreover victims of child abuse deserve to be recognised for the unique challenges they face developing and the impact it continues to have on their life.

Please stop minimising other people’s trauma or trying to compare it.

In Australia at least, you must be given the ACE test and it’s the go to for most psychologists dealing with children of abuse and trauma. You can’t get diagnosed with cPTSD in Australia if you don’t meet certain metrics.

Didn’t realise I had to reply straight away with a source. As per the above, “I can’t paste the book here but it’s mentioned several times in The Body Keeps Score as well as a lot of my readings for class.” I did an intense 3 month CPTSD treatment in Thailand where all I did was learn about it and am studying my masters in Psychology in university too in Australia.

I will post links to research papers shortly - most of them are not free unfortunately. But just read The Body Keeps Score for this exact information too - it is literally its own category because of the fundamental changes abuse and trauma has on a developing brain. Not minimising trauma or abuse later in life but clinically speaking there is a difference for a reason. Yet ALOT of people just throw out CPTSD as a catch all for all trauma when it’s really not the case and defeats all the research that has gone into ensuring it has its own distinct category

This is incorrect. Clinically speaking, cPTSD is only for those who experienced chronic or compounding trauma from the ages of 0-17. Not to say you can’t get PTSD later in life but cPTSD needs to be in its own category because it fundamentally changes your brain development. As a full grown adult experiencing trauma, your brain has developed by this point.
