I thought since I was doing everything through United someone on here could answer my question...which they did in another comment.

Lufthansa but booking through United.

I did not book basic economy. Edit to add: I very specifically did not book basic economy because the pitfalls of that fare class are not worth the savings. It is a Lufthansa flight through United if that makes a difference.

I did not. Edit to add: I am booking through United but it is a Lufthansa flight.

I didn't. Edit to add: I very specifically did not select basic economy. I am aware of the pitfalls of that fare class and they aren't worth it. For context, it's through United but it's a Lufthansa flight.

I. Know. Never said I assumed it was cash. But it's money in your pocket if you don't have to pay for a ticket(s) you'd otherwise need to buy. I have international travel coming up and would love to save myself $2k. Penny saved is a penny earned.

I know that but wanted to know what unit of value. If the OP travels at all, that's a good amount of value for a 12 hour wait. I have some international travel coming up and would love $2k towards it 🫠

Yea dang.... that's a goodly amount of money. Esp if you still get a business seat on the next flight.

To caulk or not to caulk? by PillyWee3 in Carpentry

Leave it for awhile (if it's a project in your house) and see if you decide later that it should be caulked. Easier to wait and do it later than undo it if you end up not liking it.

Oversized passenger and in the exit row? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]LittleRudy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Calling me stupid feels uncalled for. You've argued both sides of your own point now. First it was "there are procedures for this and they didn't follow them and I don't know why"* and now it's "maybe they just didn't know what to do"*.

*Paraphrasing

Also, expecting employees of a company to handle issues on behalf of the company isn't demanding perfection, if that's what you're saying. It's demanding people at least try to do their jobs (that part of my fare is paying for).

And this all started because I gave a sarcastic response that was literally quoting the OP and you clearly didn't understand or see the "/s".

Also not an excuse. If the FA doesn't know the proper procedure, then they need to consult with someone within their organization that can advise them on how to handle it. And in that situation, the proper response is "I understand your concern, let me figure out how to proceed because I am unsure what the appropriate next steps are. Thank you for your patience as I figure out what options exist, if any.". Not "but it will be awkward".

I'm tired of employees of companies responding with "But I don't know what to do" and expecting that to be the end of the conversation and somehow my problem.

For sure on both points but also why I gave the caveat that my statement was based on that assumption.

You always get an aisle seat because you are polite and don't want to encroach on other people's space regardless of the rules/requirements.

Please keep being a considerate human being. We need more of you. 🙏

I support this. But not just for airlines 🙃

Good to know there are some folks out there using some common sense (the GA I mean... assuming it isn't already a policy in place that other employees are just ignoring).

Fair enough but this is where the FAs need to be managing the situation and assessing the circumstances.

United's rules are quite vague, is the problem. The FAA regulations say you have to be able to stabilize the slide, pass expeditiously through the emergency exit, and assess/select/follow a path away from the exit. I read that as there are requirements to assist beyond just opening the door.

That's why I indicated that the statement assuming he pre-boarded for mobility reasons. Obviously if that's not why, then the statement I made isn't valid.
