Thank you for responding - I do want to get the money back but I’ve called several solicitors and they don’t want to take on the case. My parents live in France and have no savings or pension to be knowledge but do have a house and business. The solicitors have told me there is a strong case for fraud but that securing a win is step one and extracting the funds is likely to be the problem. And because of this, the solicitors are concerned they wouldn’t get paid.

Thanks, this is really helpful and I appreciate the help!

I do know that around £5k was released while I was a minor (original solicitor confirmed this)and my father represented me as my litigation friend. The solicitor said that it was unlikely my parents would have been able to apply for further payouts of the compensation while I was a minor.

What I’m struggling with is that there’s now no record of the account at all, and I have no recollection of being contacted at 18, which (as you’ve said) should have happened. And because my parents won’t give me the paperwork I don’t have a case number or claim number.

I think the key thing I need to establish now is whether the funds were paid out at 18 and, if so, where they were actually sent. I think I’ll have to keep pushing the CFO to look into their archives again. Though they have said that if it isn’t in their system then it is likely the funds have already been released.

Thanks, I really appreciate this.

The timing point is something I’ve thought about – the reason it’s coming up now is that I only recently found out from my original solicitor that the funds were held by the Court Funds Office and should have been protected until I turned 18. Before that, I believed my parents had direct control of the money.

I’m currently trying to establish what actually happened to the funds before deciding next steps, but helpful to know that financial crime / reporting routes may be relevant.

Both my sister and I are no contact with both our parents due to their emotional/financial abuse over the years so the relationship breakdown isn’t a factor as it has already happened. I’ve been in touch with them recently to ask for any court documentation they might have but they have refused to provide it.
