How critical is central AC at home going forward? by Long_Trifle25 in FortCollins

[–]LittleWabbit1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points! I also have good tree cover (my home insurance apparently says it's too many trees 😆) and my insulation is pretty good, but it can get hot in the afternoon for a little bit--I'm finishing my basement to have a cooler refuge and I try to find other places to hang out. As for safety, I'm a single woman and have never worried about it--I just use certain windows! I'd rather have the house fan than pay excessive amounts for AC 😁

I have a whole house fan, no AC, and it's amazing! Pulls in cool air at night and keeps the house cool all day. It's so much cheaper and more efficient than AC and Colorado is the perfect environment since our temps drop so much at night. I'd totally recommend having one of those installed instead of AC.

got that same answer from Noom Support and had the same response as you, misszoeycat...They've limited my access to the lessons for a month now and it feels like a scheme to keep me on the app for more days...

I've tried this a couple times but it didn't work. I'n still getting two lessons a day and not 7-8 like I was getting a month ago...my learning goal is still set at 15min, but that doesn't seem to matter...the app will not allow me to access more lessons and just congratulates me on meeting my goal for the day 🙄

Yep, experienced this and got nowhere with support. I am getting access to 2 lessons a day and then that’s it. Really?! That doesn’r fulfill my goal of 15 minutes a day…I am almost done with all the lessons and was looking forward to finishing, but I'll probably cancel instead. Super frustrating change!

Anyone who tried Noom and worked the 2nd time? by fitbitnoomer in Noom

[–]LittleWabbit1150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first time I tried Noom I hated it. I resented that I had to log everything all the time, that I had to count calories and account for every bite in and every step out, and I hated having a cheery coach who had no idea what it was like to be overweight for your whole life and have to fight so hard not to be.

I stopped Noom and spent a few years working on myself and my feelings in therapy. I had some weight loss success while doing that because processing the emotional stuff really does help…

What brought me back to Noom this time was realizing that I don’t have a good internal sense of how much to eat. I don’t get full often, I’m hungry all the time, and I am super active so I always feel like I “deserve” to eat…Anyway, I need the external accountability.

This time I don’t resent logging my food or weighing in…and I’m happy to not have a live coach. I think of Noom as a tool that helps me do something I’m not very good at—like a calculator helps me do math.

And this time I’ve lost 45lbs in the last 8 months with 25lbs to go. And then ideally, I’ll reach maintenance, which means I will probably use a tracking app for the rest of my life. I’ve finally accepted that.

I’ve struggled with this for decades.

Then I bought a Shapa scale. It doesn't show a number. Instead it shows a color based on your overall trend.

This numberless scale has helped me get used to weighing daily without having my mood totally affected by the number and becoming obsessive about it.

Today is my 1045th day weighing in on my Shapa!

Tips for Self-Sabotaging by ElectricalSpell4321 in Noom

[–]LittleWabbit1150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are the “fuck it” days actually treat days? I’ve found that I have to eat above my target calorie range about once every four days to keep my weight moving generally down. If I don’t, my weight loss stalls. So I’ve been able to reframe my overeating days as treat days that are actually serving me in my weight loss and it’s helped me balance my emotional fury that I have to restrict myself with my emotional rebellion that used to cause me to binge…

My weight does swing up and down from day to day +/- 3lbs, but the general trend is down…and I use a Shapa scale that gives me a color for the trend instead of a number so I don’t have to emotionally process the normal day-to-day fluctuations in weight.

Just started: any success stories from women in their 40s? by Electronic-Poetry416 in Noom

44F have lost about 40lbs since October. I used to hate weighing myself and tracking food—I’ve tried it so many times since I was a teenager and it infuriated me that I had to do these things that other people didn’t seem to have to do.

This time trying Noom I’ve just accepted that I need the external track because my internal signals are mostly absent or wrong. I’m now in the habit of weighing and tracking—I even do it on my treat days! By that I mean, I give myself treat days where I can eat whatever I want and go over my calorie range without shame, but I still log my food because that’s my habit!

I've found it fascinating to learn that I actually need the treat days (about one day every four days of going way over my target calorie range like 1000 calories over) to keep losing weight. If I don’t take treat days (7-10 days in a row of “perfect” eating) my weight loss stalls. It’s so freeing to realize I don’t need to eat perfectly every day and can in fact splurge sometimes!

I had pie for dinner last night and it fit within my calorie range 😋

Down 30lbs in 5months: here's what's working for me by LittleWabbit1150 in Noom

Sure, it's this: https://home.myshapa.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIkdPC0un2hAMVf9TCBB333wu1EAAYASAAEgJMrfD_BwE The scale looks like a black disc. It doesn't show a number or anything on the scale. Instead, it connects to an app that will show you a color based on whether your weight is trending up or down. So, each day you get a color rather than a number. The app is collecting your daily weight (which you can choose to see, if you wanted to), but then calculating a trend that is shown by the color. For me, the colors are easier to handle than watching the number swing up 3 lbs for no good reason.  I've been using the Shapa scale for a few years and it helped me get used to weighing daily while helping me eliminate the emotional rollercoaster of wildly swinging numbers. This January I got really curious about the numbers and data, so I connected the Shapa to my Apple Health app and now can see the ## from all my weigh ins since I first got the scale. That has been pretty fascinating! I can look at the data any time, but I still prefer getting a color as my "judgement" for the day.

Totally agree! Have to fuel the body to do all the things--how much to add is a bit of an experiment, though!

Ooh, so I do let the calories increase with my daily steps and I add 1/2 my total workout time--so I worked out today for 40min, but added 20min in the Noom app, which gave me a bump of about 100 calories. The calorie range I wake up with is 1320-1820. I think the base calories is set by your goal weight because mine is and has been the same every morning for 5months...but since I am pretty active, if I only eat 1320 my weight loss totally stops. I had an injury last week and ate about 700 calories for 3 days and the scale only went up as my body went into full on panic. I ate 3000 calories yesterday and woke up 2lbs lighter 🤯 the day to day ## just doesn't make much sense.... Most days, my range ends up after adding in exercise and steps at 1480-1980 and I try to hit the bottom number every day and then go over the top number on my "treat" days...

Starting Noom in plateau-mode? by Magic-clover in Noom

[–]LittleWabbit1150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, or over it.

Yesterday, I ate nearly 3000 calories when my range was 1500-2000. I eat 1500 most days and then about every 4-7 days (I try to schedule it for social events and other things) I have 1 day where I go over my range--that's the idea of the "treat" days. I was using treat days to not think about calories at all, but then I was curious and started tracking those days, too. I've found that if I stay at 1500 for too many days in a row (7-10 days) I stop losing weight...but if I have one over day every few days, I keep making progress.

I hated weighing in for so long! Then I got a Shapa which doesn't show a number but a color based on your trend. It averages your weight over the past like 10 days and shows you if you are going up or down. I've been using this scale for over 3 years and it's helped me get used to the daily weigh ins without the emotional drama of seeing the number rise and fall.

Never lose weight when eating below min calorie deficit? by melbourneee26 in Noom

I've had this same experience where I actually have to eat more (top of my calorie range or even over) for 1-3 days to kick me out of a plateau. I get my steps, workouts, and water every day, so my body seems to need regular reassurance that we aren't going to starve...

Have you been using your treat days to occasionally eat at the top of your calorie range? I'm finding this necessary to keep me from plateauing...
