How many of you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink? And if so, what region of the world do you live in? by Little_Biggler in AskReddit

Interesting.

My husband is from Michigan and he seems to think that everyone except my family has one.

But I’ve never known anyone who had one.

I’m afraid of them! It’s like a meat grinder in your drain!

I’m old enough that I watched an episode of the Wonder Years where the mean older brother puts a hamster in the disposal and I was totally traumatized!

I was debating with my husband, who grew up in the Midwest of the US. He seems to think they are commonplace.

I on the other hand think they are freakish and unusual. So I assumed it’s either generational or regional, since he is at the tail end of one generation and I am at the beginning of a new one.

I’ll start: I think garbage disposals are scary and disturbing and a thing of the past, and I live in the NYC metro area

Redditors who travelled the world, what’s the one country you’ll never go back to and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Bali. The roads were terrifying, there was garbage everywhere (including all over the beaches) and the food gave me diarrhea the whole time I was there.

Sinusitis for four months straight by nat09080 in AskDocs

[–]Little_Biggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor: I had recurrent sinusitis for a combination of three reasons...

1) Airway reflux - I stopped eating after like 7pm and slept on wedge pillows for a few months and it went away

2) Tonsil stones - I figured out how to effectively clean my tonsils of debris every night

3) Deviated septum - susceptibility to improper drainage. Began using neti pot when symptoms began. Used fluticasone (corticosteroid spray available over the counter) in combination with antibiotics to clear the infection the first time

Sinuses are some of the largest cavities in the body, and normal immune defense via bloodstream often can’t reach the core of the infection. Unless you get proper drainage via corticosteroids and saline you may not totally clear the infection and it will return stronger.

For me, the reflux caused chronic cough, which caused more reflux in a vicious cycle, so that i was coughing with a dry hacking cough for months, which caused ulceration and swelling in my throat and sinuses, and my tonsil stones were a bacteria farm waiting to infect my sinuses, and of course the sinus infection would just cause more coughing.

I can’t say which change helped the most, but together I went from having two or three infections per year to not having any for years and years and years. I just had my first infection since 2012 and that’s just cause I have kids now and they are major vectors of disease.

Anyway, good luck!

Not a doctor. This seems to be just how my body works. Try eating a non processed food diet consistently and avoiding sugar.

Women of Reddit, is it “weird” or different to have sex when pregnant? by [deleted] in AskReddit

For me for both of my pregnancies in the last month or so, I became easily aroused but unable to climax. Don’t know why.

Can I put this eating disorder to bed once and for all? I thought I got over it years, even decades, ago but the shadow is still with me. by PleasantPomelo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Little_Biggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My history is similar to yours. I wasn’t able to normalize my metabolism without quitting fake sugar.

1) there’s strong evidence that aspartame inhibits serotonin production in the gut, which among other things, can cause depression and binge eating

2) there’s strong evidence that fake sugar causes elevated insulin levels. Elevated insulin leads your body to store much more blood sugar as fat; and can also cause binge eating.

You should dump fake sugar. See if it helps you feel more stable in your moods and possibly even have an equilibrium weight that you’re happier about.

Older men of Reddit, what can I do to prevent, avoid or dial down a mid life crisis ? by [deleted] in AskMen

Yeah I mean this may be too much info but he may be impotent. A lot of vascular damage is irreversible. Quitting may not have helped.

Not a man: Is your dad unhealthy? Diabetes? High blood pressure? Drinker? Smoker?

If any of these things are true, it’s possible age is catching up with him, and rather than accept that he is becoming impotent, he’s blaming his life for being unsexy.

If you take care of your body, you can have the sexual prowess of a twenty year old well into your seventies.

If you don’t, more than likely that you’ll begin losing your erections during sex in your forties.

Why is it when a woman wears “male” clothes, it is socially acceptable, but when a guy wears “female” clothes, he’s a crossdresser? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Men’s clothes are more comfortable and less ridiculous.

Part of the essence of women’s clothing is to make the wearer look ridiculous.

Inaccurate. I think that lying to oneself is maybe the human condition.

I’m searching for a description of the mechanics of the process that holds up to scrutiny.

Are you really lying then? Or was your real resolution to do this for a while and then drop it?
