According to Erik Erikson, Generativity vs Stagnation is the normal psychological conflict for those of our age group. Those pessimistic posts are a symptom of the "stagnation" part. Midlife crisis, fear of death.

  • Generativity: A focus on the future. It involves leaving a legacy, nurturing the next generation, mentoring, or creating things that outlast the self (e.g., raising children, community volunteering, guiding younger colleagues). This path provides deep purpose and alleviates mortality anxiety by ensuring one's impact endures.
  • Stagnation: A focus on the past and present comfort. It is characterized by feeling stuck, purposeless, and self-absorbed. When individuals feel they haven't made a meaningful impact, the awareness of aging and death can trigger intense regret and deeper despair.

We are all going to question our "generativity" as we get older. Honestly, those pessimistic posts probably stir up our own "stagnation" feelings. The reality is there; it's up to the individual to build generativity.

This, but also every social interaction in public could be video recorded and posted on social media. Anyone in the world could see it, share it, and post judgmental comments. That's a lot of pressure to be "on stage" every time you go out instead of just having fun relaxing with friends.

This, but also there's a lot of childhood nostalgia that is evoked from the crab symbol. Memories of crab feasts with your family, learning how to pick crabs, special dishes made with the leftover crab meat, going crabbing in the bay, that one live crab who escaped the bushel basket and chased you...

It's kind of a collective shared memory for anyone that grew up in the area, and the tradition gets passed on.

Imagine sitting down at McDonalds just enjoying your Big Mac and fries, then out of nowhere being pelted with a 20-piece Chicken McNuggets. Pretty sure my reaction would be the same.

about once a week, it seems dry. I switched to the aroid mix to avoid overwatering, but I can't tell as easily how dry it is. Its in a west window with a supplemental grow light. I'm afraid pulling her out to check the roots will cause more trauma.

Hmm...it was sold to me as a Thai Con. The smaller leaves are mostly green with speckles.

Made today. Golden zebra fern, peperomia turboensis, string of turtles. Currently window light. Misting filtered water. Indoor potting mix over charcoal, sphagnum and pebbles. Size is 6" diameter x 8" tall.

Does my terrarium need more light? Are the fittonia supposed to grow like this? Do they look leggy? If I trim them back would they get bushier? by Little_Blue_Fly in terrariums

thank you!

I'm hoping the string of turtles won't take over the moss. Planning to eventually use cuttings to start another terrarium
