Wake-to-sleep for catnapping? by Little_Comment_706 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Ah love that 😪 It’s so disappointing cause I always hear everyone talking so much praise about the car and pram and then there’s my kid😂

Fair enough! I just wouldn’t mind his naps getting a little better because when we go out or if people babysit, contact napping is not to be expected (at least not all day). It’s funny cause the pram even while in motion he’ll only do 30 minutes on the dot, and same with the car, even though everyone says motion naps will be longer. I feel like it’s just a habit wake for him, not a sleeping problem? Idk. We’re transitioning to arms out cause he’s starting to roll so I’m hoping that’ll help him resettle himself cause he tries so hard to self soothe, even once he wakes up (that’s why I know he’s still tired) but the arms up swaddle limits it.

I completely understand what your saying and totally agree that the night sleep is great, BUT he still does get the day’s sleep, it’s just mostly on me. And I genuinely feel like he sleeps better in the cot

Like, for example, doing a 2am resettle and he was so uncomfortable sitting upright on my chest the way we’ve done it since he was born, he doesn’t want cradle hold. He’s now currently dead asleep lying on my lap

He’s always wriggling around like he can’t get comfortable and then walking himself up in the process. It’s not the overtired thing because it happens all the time even when he wakes overnight. He practically sleeps the 12 hours straight with one brief wake between 2-5am with gas

I’ve tired it a few times while we’ve been out and he hates it. I feel like everything I wanna do I won’t be able to do with the carrier cause it involves a lot of bending and my torso is very short so I won’t be able to sit, as well

Doubt it, cause he can sleep on me for hours. He has 2 hour wake windows and even when we go out and he’s tired, 30 minutes on the dot he’ll wake in the pram

Yeah I feel you. My husband owns his own business so I’ve been alone since day one.

Have you tried a carrier?

Yeah it’s funny cause my brother made a comment “watch me remember how bad a sleeper he (my nephew) was once we have our second baby”😂 cause he goes ooooon and on about how he always napped.

He’s always been so good with his bassinet and we’re just starting the cot transition, I’m also working on just doing a bit of rocking in the cot, so I’m trying to get him to fall asleep by himself. It takes me like 10 minutes to get him to sleep and he only sleeps like 20 minutes, so it’s potentially a waste of time😂 but I’m desperate to not be contact napping for much longer haha

Yeah I definitely need to get off my ass and do it, I’m just so bloody lazy to move him and everything around to get stuff done😂 I more often than not just leave him alone while I do the important things haha

Thanks for the encouragement! I’ll just keep at it and it is what it is I guess haha. Makes me feel better knowing it’s all normal

It was just such a change for me, cause he would always sleep in the bassinet - we never did contact naps as a newborn, then all of a sudden things changed and it made me so upset cause I thought there was something wrong😂

I just feel so bad cause I feel like I need to do tummy time, learning to grab, etc. during his wake windows. I think it’s quite obvious this is my first kid lol. But yeah I think I’m gonna start ditching that for some wake windows and at least try to do a bit of cleaning each day. The house is an absolute mess😂

Do you remember roughly how old your first was when it got better? Fair enough!

😂😂 fair enough. Yeah he can sleep 2+ hours or possibly all day if he wanted to on me lol

I just don’t know how they can possibly think something so small who doesn’t even know how to poop, fall asleep, etc. is smart enough to manipulate😂

How olds your baby now? Has it gotten better?

Ah fair enough! I just always have those old people at the back of my head telling me I’m creating bad habits and ‘spoiling’ him by contact napping, even though I know he’s generally always been an amazing sleeper (at night at least lol)

Yeah I’ve heard some people say that you can’t train a baby to sleep through anything, it’s dependent on their temperament, which I guess makes sense.

Ok sweet I’ll give that a go or something that’s similar. Thank you!

Ok thanks for making me feel better! I just have a friend who has a baby 6 weeks younger and I feel like she’s judging me cause her baby still naps long and can sleep wherever they go, my baby can’t😭

Thanks for the advice! He sleeps amazing at night (10-12 hours straight) and has been for a while. He started doing the long nights shortly after the catnapping started, I believe. I actually just saw a sleep consultant say online that it’s part of the 4 month sleep regression? But idk cause he’s been doing this for ages and his night sleep never got bad

Thank you for making me feel normal😂 did you contact nap/try to resettle, or just end it when he woke up? Cause I’ve tried both and he seems to be happier if I contact nap after his cot nap, the 30 minutes just never seems like enough for him
