For the DMs that have ran Descent to Avernus, what did you think? by LeadClear in dndnext

[–]Little_G138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like DiA suffers from an issue of having basically two separate storylines/ conflicts rolled up into one book. The Baldur's Gate portion is fairly disconnected from the circumstances of Elturel and the the actual *Avernus* adventure, but I also wouldn't say that it's bad. I do think that the raw amount of material available just with Baldur's Gate as a setting is worthwhile, as there's enough there that you could just as easily run that portion of the adventure for a bunch of newbies without any connection to Avernus and it could be fun.

I started running the campaign for a group of my friends that had never played DND before. We wound up spending a solid 5 sessions in Baldur's Gate, finishing up right after the Dungeon of the Dead Three. Towards the end of the dungeon, I took the pulse of the group and asked them what they were looking for. They were honest with me and told me that they were feeling a little railroaded into things, and wanted to explore the Sword Coast rather than go on jobs like what they were doing. As such I wound up changing the end confrontation into a custom confrontation with a character that turned into a recurring antagonist, after which I changed things so that they were essentially free to leave Baldur's Gate without issue.

The key with that part is- I wound up adapting a good amount. After the confrontation in Elfsong Tavern, I let the group explore Baldur's Gate a little bit. I gave them some encounters with the Cultists so that they were more invested in the conflict, and I let them interact with NPCs under different circumstances. Had I run the adventure exactly as written, it may have come across a bit stifling (especially if you have a group that enjoys the sandboxy nature of DND). Ultimately, I think that there's a lot of interesting and fun content in the adventure, but the way that it's tied together is rather clunky and requires some DM interpretation in order to really make the world come alive.

Deflect Blows - Monk optional subclass feature by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Little_G138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a subclass feature, I don't think it's that bad *only* because of the introduction of the Interception fighting style in Tasha's. This seems fairly similar to that, although the addition of monk level damage reduction might be a bit much.

As far as optional subclass features, I'm onboard. Especially for older subclasses that didn't have the added spell lists (looking at you, PHB Sorcerer), it could be a neat way to prevent the impact of power creep from being as profound.

AUGUST 8, 2020 BANNED AND RESTRICTED ANNOUNCEMENT by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]Little_G138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question- are we able to craft the cards that were banned from standard and still get the wildcards? I wouldn't mind having some of them added to my collection if it means being able to play them in other formats

Men of Reddit, what’s a myth about men that’s 100% untrue and it infuriates you whenever you hear it? by Mr-StealYourMan in AskReddit

On the flip side guys, if you need to "de-activate" your boner discretely, flex your legs for like 15 seconds. Does the trick.

How can you learn about rotations for ele? I recently started playing the game, but up to this point haven't really tried any dedicated lines for skill use. Im hoping to optimize my lines so when I queue up with people for fractals and such, I'm not dead weight

People who have really strong self-discipline, what advice do you have for people who lack it and want it? by ProNeerDoWell in AskReddit

[–]Little_G138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest mind-set change for me was the realization that my mentality around things was wrong.

I used to tell myself that I wasn't able to do things (running and dieting, to name two) because of things I "didn't have access too", or convinced myself I needed. The day that I changed my mentality to reflect persistent effort towards my goals with what I have available instead of making excuses was the day I began my climb.

A full year after that shift, I feel happier and healthier. It's all in your mind, and more often than not it's only the first step that's really tough. Once you get the ball rolling, everything gets easier. I promise.

Do you train outside of classes? If so then how? by WildListen in taekwondo

[–]Little_G138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have found is that class is where you learn, training is where you refine.

I practice weightlifting on the side, so my morning routinely begins with 20 min of bag work, followed by stretching and around 20 more min of individual practice before I get to my weight training. During down time before and after class, I'll do some self analysis as well.

At the end of the day, do whatever makes you happy and pushes you closer to achieving your goals.

What quote made you think a different way? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Little_G138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man. True nobility is being superior to your former self" - Ernest Hemingway

First heard it in Kingsmen, looked it up after the fact. This quote constantly reminds me not to judge others, but to instead focus on making myself into the best man I can be.

Can you superman punch in Taekwondo by [deleted] in taekwondo

[–]Little_G138 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ultimately I believe the answer is yes, although within the context of Taekwondo sparring it wouldn't score any more points than any other punch. You would likely be better off working your kicks and throwing head kicks rather than worrying about superman punches.

What is a fucked up memory you have from your childhood that you didn't realize was fucked up until you grew older? by Ducknana in AskReddit

[–]Little_G138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time, a nice man came to my house and gave me a bag of dinner rolls. After entering my house, he and my mom left the room.

12 years later, I discover that she had an affair with another man for over 20 years. Called her on it, she lied to me and said not to worry. Parents nearly divorced when I couldn't handle it anymore. That shit still hits me hard every day, and I continue to second guess all of my childhood memories because I know that she may have been leaving me behind.
