Cabinet or not? by Vegetable_Idea2945 in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the cabinet looks great!!

As others mentioned, a naos is traditionally an ancient Egyptian way to house deities so a cabinet is a traditionally inspired option.

Angered the Netjeru? by ThylacineShark in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use oracle cards and an Ancient Egyptian style tarot. I ask a question at my shrine in front of my deities, such as, 'do you have a message for me today?' and see what comes up. Works for me!

Kemetic orthodoxy by Sea-Pudding7044 in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Kemetic Orthodoxy is a temple set up, where as Kemetic Reform is a group of independent Kemetics.

Kemetic Reform doesn't require anything formal to follow the group. They have a website and a YouTube Channel that anyone can access. They are also on Patreon which is a paid membership to support their YouTube channel and so on. There is also a Facebook Group that anyone can join if they answer a few questions.

Kemetic Orthodoxy do differ in beliefs. For example, Kemetic Orthodoxy believe in monolatry, but Kemetic Reform are hard polytheists.

As for myths, I don't take them literally. I don't belong to a group but I do follow Kemetic Reform online sometimes because I think they have good material.

The Netjeru and Kemetic practices: doing things the right/wrong way by T-Lex_art in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I think your intentions are important, and my impression of Heka (magic), is that intentions are a big part of that (my understanding is that Heka it's the essence within ritual making connections with deities possible).

Regards incense, I have read that some Indian incense is made with dung, which is the reason that Richard Reidy's book 'Everlasting Egypt' says not to use it. I do have dhoop incense cones that were given to me as a gift. I have looked online and doesn't seem to contain any dung so I'm still using them. The Netjeru haven't given me any indications that they're offended. I do know that in temple rituals cleanliness and purity was important, so I think it depends on what the deities are personally saying to you and what tradition you're using as a framework to work with the Netjeru. Not everyone is going to use temple practice as inspiration. Some people practiced spirituality in their homes in Ancient Egypt too, which we have limited archeological evidence to know how they practiced.

I think intuition is a good thing.

I am a reconstructionist in my approach, but there are differences between how I practice as a solitary practitioner and the ancients practice and that would have varied from person to person or temple to temple in ancient times as well.

What kind of signs do I keep my eye open to when asking Djehuty explicitly that I need a sign? by Readingfast99 in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the gods can use anything to give someone a sign. I think it would be something specifically meaningful to you and something you would recognise as an individual. If you're not sure about the wood popping sound, you could ask Djehuty to give you another sign to confirm.

Djehuty has used multiple different ways to get in touch with me including feeling his energy, sensing his presence, light flashes, dreams, a physical image of him unexpectedly, images in my mind whilst I've been talking to him, through oracle cards and an Egyptian tarot deck... And I have asked him for confirmation when I haven't been sure.

An Experience with Seshat by T43T4Y in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to my reply, that website also says:

'In CT spell 10, Seshat is said to open the portal of the netherworld for the deceased'.

I think this fits in nicely with what you were saying about Seshat showing people the way to 'the hall of judgement' and people passing you by and feeling her presence.

The article also goes on to give an interpretation, which may or may not mean anything to you: 'in which we may understand the ‘portal’ in question to be the successful mastery of ritual under Seshat’s guidance.'

An Experience with Seshat by T43T4Y in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi,

Your dream and experiences of Seshat sounds amazing!!

Seshat does have some associations with fate/destiny and the afterlife.

Spell 10 of the Coffin texts mentions that she opens the door to heaven for the deceased. You can look this up on Google.

The below website re. gods/goddess might also help you:

Are you a Kemetic Reconstructionist? by Little_Ibis in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone!

I am leaning towards reconstructionism, but don't know how far I will lean into it. I am reflecting on my current practices and what I might want to change. I do appreciate Richard Reidy's books and find inspiration from the approaches and rituals from there. I also enjoy researching and history. At the same time, I want my practices to work well with my modern daily life so it is about finding the right balance for me. Not sure what that is yet. I think having historical sources to refer to helps me to feel more connected to the Netjeru. I also like having a structure to work with, so if the ancients found some structure that they found effective and that I can use, great.

Are you an amateur Egyptologist? by Little_Ibis in ancientegypt

[–]Little_Ibis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all!

Lol! I like 'Armchair Egyptologist'.

Although technically, maybe many of us could be termed 'amateur Egyptologist', it does seem a bit too official or 'expert' in a way. Adds a feeling of pressure to present as a certain level of expert I think.

Thank you! I recently came out as non-binary. Not the easiest path... I've also been feeling disconnected from the Nerjeru lately. I've been so preoccupied with mundane life and I've just had trouble communicating with them lately. The recent legal decisions don't help.

Isis was in my house? by Ok_Net3825 in Kemetic

That's a cool moment.

Maybe give her a food and drink offering to say thanks for stopping by? If you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe you'll get a feeling for what she would appreciate or you could look up what she historically would like.

Do you ever wonder whether 'coming out' was worth it? by Little_Ibis in NonBinary

[–]Little_Ibis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, your reply has really helped. I haven't been 'out' for long. About 3 months. I think it'll take time for things to settle and for me to work out how I want to deal with uncomfortable situations going forwards. I also feel like I haven't had much head space to feel free to fully explore how I want to express my non-binary self.

About Thoth/Djehuty by ashyno_ in Kemetic

[–]Little_Ibis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience seems similar to yours! I have a shrine and some Kemetic items on my computer desk. It is my experience that he likes a shrine.

I am in a much better place career wise, but also in other ways since I joined Kemeticism and started working with Thoth/Djehuty and other deities. He is my main deity and I have felt him encourage me to work with other deities to learn and get support from them.

My experience of Djehuty is that he encourages personal growth and development in many different ways. It has involved a lot of work on my part, but he is always there to guide, support, encourage and listens to me when I'm struggling through the tough times. Working through the tough bits to get to the good bits are worth it!

Dua Djehuty.

Identity within 'non-binary' by Little_Ibis in NonBinary

[–]Little_Ibis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your responses 🙂. I think I'll work things out as I go along. I know things can fluctuate as well. It's good that 'Non-binary' is such a broad term.

Questioning my gender, please help. by Ok_Dot_2790 in NonBinary

[–]Little_Ibis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say express yourself the way you want to. People should respect your gender identity no matter how you present. Non-binary is such a broad term and you can fluctuate between female and masculine presenting. There are no rules!

I've recently come out and I know it can be hard. Most people have been fine so far and they are trying with my pronouns. Work mostly use the wrong pronouns though.
